This one back to back with Out of Gas is such a great dual run of character growth and tight action. So glad you two are enjoying this, it's been fun revisiting!

yeah, after multiple rewatches one notices when they cut to Jayne on planet (getting the uniforms and id's) he is getting off a video call, which within the linear story (heist set-up montage) seems like he called his contact and then the contact shows up. But on the rewatches, one realizes it is then when he made contact with hospital security. Also, love that they paid off the story nugget from episode one (Serenity) when Mal asks Jayne what happens when the day comes for the $$ to be too good for Jayne to ignore and turn on Mal...well, we now found out -which we know Mal was always on the lookout for - and I think because Jayne never sent up a flag that there was an issue is why Mal was suspicious. Love this show!!!

Almost caught up now. Shiny! Arianna you pegged exactly what River was doing while they were detained: Reading something from Jayne's past and throwing it back at him. I guess Mama Cobb left him coal in his stocking one Christmas... I think River sort of likes Jayne - or maybe more than sort of... She's definitely teasing him with this, and at the end of 'Safe' she takes his piece of bread off his plate so he has to reach for more, and there's more. I think River and Jayne would be a good hookup. A very weird relationship, yeah; but I think it would be good for both of them.
