Arrested Development 3x11-12-13 | Watch Along

Comments

David Sumner

The actress playing Nellie is Justine Bateman, Jason Bateman's real-life sister. They go hard on the meta here. Also, at 23:03 Tobias makes a comment about the set dressing on TV shows being so detailed only for the cabinets to be barren inside. Also, remember how in the beauty pageant episode GOB said that he would always go for the third-place winner? They've been setting that up for a while.

Tim Goens

Whelp, it's a damn shame there's no more Arrested Development!

Please, go for the original cut of season 4. The first couple of episodes might feel off, but the set ups and reveals work so much better than the remix.

David Sumner

I think only the remix is available on NetFlix.

Marcus Cato

I remember a funny comment from Maple or Arianna around the beginning of season 1: "I wonder how long they are going to push the cousin stuff?" 😂

If you go under “Trailers and more” you will see the original cut episodes

The "Free Scrap-booking Class" was, of course, taught by Professor John Munch (played by the late Richard Belzer). Belzer, originally a successful stand-up comic, moved over to acting in movies and on television (he was the audience warm-up comedian for the first few years of Saturday Night Live). In 1993 he was cast as Detective John Munch of the Baltimore Police Dept. on the series Homicide: Life on the Streets. The series was created by David Simon and based on his book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets. The character was originally based on Jay Landsman, a real Baltimore Homicide detective who would later be portrayed in Simon's HBO series The Wire. After Homicide ended in 1999, Belzer would go on to play Munch again (now with the NYPD) on Law & Order: SVU from 1999-2013 before retiring from regular series television. the Munch character was so popular that he also appeared as a guest star on many other shows from Arrested Development to 30 Rock to the Wire. He also appears in several cartoon shows as a voice-over, including American Dad and The Muppet Show. Munch also appeared in an episode of the X-files in Season 5. All in all, Belzer played John Munch for more than 22 years on TV, putting him in the top 2-3 actors playing a single character the longest. Also the character has appeared in a total of 11 different shows of different genres from drama to comedy to sci-fi to cartoon to muppet.

As early as season one Mitch Hurwitz was interviewed by some outlet and said that he thought casting Justine Bateman as a potential love interest for Michael would fit nicely into the flow of some of the plotlines. When this episode appeared at the end of season 3 I remembered that interview and realized that as the only time I knew what the episode would be about before I saw it.

Patrick Flanagan

The original cut is located under the Trailers section.

They definitely got some perviness to 'em!

Pyt

Yea, its crazy how they never tried to revive it. All and all a great three season show that was sadly canceled a little too early.

General Crisp

If you keep going with S4 PLEASE watch the Original cut (which is available in the trailers and more section on Netflix) I know I'm not alone in thinking its waaay better than the remix. It is a different feel because of how they had to shoot it but its still hilarious. The remix falls really flat most of the time and removes a lot of jokes.

Marco Barrera

Please watch original cut of season 4. Found in trailer and more section on Netflix

I'm curious if Maple and Arianna will rewatch this show in their free time now. It's definitely one that rewards multiple viewings. Jokes everywhere in every scene. And I'm down to watch season 4 at some point, preferably the original cut. It's definitely different from the first 3 seasons, but it's still fun.
