Maybe the center of the trinity knot is what connects the present, past, and future. This show is giving so much without giving anything at all. We still know nothing about the burnt eyes and burst ears of it all. It clearly has nothing to do with them going through time since we've seen now Jonas, and now Ulrich go through the caves and end up physically fine. So what is even the point of the chair? How did this cycle even begin? Does the wormhole only date back to 1953? Or does it also go back 1920? 1887? Obviously the same questions for future dates exist. Right now its giving that when you go through it its always 33 years to the day, since we saw Jonas see Mikkel days after Mikkel had been in 1986. So if the wormholes are constantly move does that mean that everything has to happen right now? Or does it reset again?

Theory 3 points so... we are assuming that we started in the "present" What if that is wrong. The show started in the future, the 80's is the real present and the 50's the past.

a really important clarification to something Maple said this episode, we actually have not seen any evidence that anything can be changed by going back in the past Edit: think about that moment where yall realized how Helge got his scar. You're right, but that means that always happened, he had that scar before we even see Ulrich go back in time, he always had that scar. So that means Ulrich always goes back and in his attempt to change the past he actually causes to happen what he was attempting to change.

The Center part of Maple was asking about, I think it is the pathway. I have not seen the show im watching it with the girls. The top of the Trinity is 2019, the right Bottom is 1953 Because if u picture yourself in 2019, you travel down it, left to 1953, and right to 1986. But that's just a guess. I need to start taking notes.

A very minor point I can shed some light on as a historian with a love of Egyptian language - Thoth is the Greek version of the God's name, and in Ancient times it was pronounced tʰɔːtʰ , somewhat like "taught". As best as we can reconstruct, the Egyptians called him ḏḥwty, which we think might have been pronounced something like "Chee-how-tee". Egyptian is fun!

Diegesis

In a way, this is a little bit of a spoiler-ish clarification 😭 I agree that the Helge scar is evidence that Ulrich’s actions were always part of what happened. But at this point in the show, we still don’t know whether that means everything is necessarily fixed or whether anything can actually be changed. That’s literally one of the questions we’re trying to figure out while watching. The show continues building that question toward a much more explicit reveal and I'm sure is going to reveal more so to us further on into what we haven't seen, so confirming the rule of the universe for us before we get there kind of takes away from that progression
