I think the whole incest thing is up for debate, on one hand it's just wrong and quite revolting and no situation or context could defend it. On the other hand Martha and Jonas's situation and context is not normal at all, the right or wrong of it has ceased to be relevant. They have known eachother for years and they have formed a relationship that is not that of an aunt and her nephew, but of two friends that have grown fond of eachother for a long time without knowing the truth, i also think that Jonas can't stop himself from feeling the way he is feeling because he does'nt care anymore with what he has been through, Martha and Mikkel(to an extent) is like an anchor that keeps him motivated to try and fix the knot. "You are not free in what you do because you are not free in what you want, we can't overcome what's deep within us:" Desire is the main villain of this show.

The only thing they took away from the show after two-thirds of the way through is: incest bad. 💀 I don't think this show is for them

Well Egon wouldn't recognize adult Hannah, he died before she grew up. He met her when she was in middle school and only briefly. I doubt he would remember her. He might have known her father but Hannah is basically a random child of an acquaintance to him. As for the incest of it all, this basically illustrates what the show tells us - “man can do what he wills but he cannot will what he wills”. He fell in love with her and he's unable to let go. I have more to say about this but it would get spoilery. You might arrive to the point I want to make yourselves once you're further in the show. I think this would be a good discussion when you finish the series. This show is basically just Philosophy 101 homework. Does free will exist, are we really free? It explores the human condition.

I just love Hannah. Not as a person, but as a character. She's so diabolically funny. Every time she appears on screen, you just know something is about to happen. And the actress is fantastic.

With the incest I feel like Maple or maybe both of them think that the writers just added incest in the show for the sake of it or to just be needlessly “Dark” but the incest is actually a big part in how everyone is in this mindfuck of a family tree and it’s supposed to be dark and twisted. They’re right in finding it disgusting but it’s way more complicated than that and the incest isn’t just there to be weird and edgy…without the incest there is no show. And Jonas isn’t trying to fuck his aunt he loves her but he’s not actively trying to get her if anything he wants to erase himself from existence so this weird incest shit can stop , I get that incest is weird but I feel like their making it a way bigger issue than it is plus at the end of the day it’s a show. if they can get through HoTD where the incest is way less complicated more needless and the characters actively know what they’re engaging in from the start then this is nothing.

Wunder

Yes Hannah is awesome. Like a chaotic little gremlin having her own insane adventure during this whole thing

Wait until they find that that [redacted] is [redacted], and that [redacted] is [redacted].

If you're not into the show, you shouldn't force yourself to keep watching. You're cracking jokes during serious scenes, and the rest of the time you look bored out of your minds lol. I don't think this is the right show 💀

Chris Bruneau

Sad news everyone--RJ Mitte from Breaking Bad died today, he was only 34 years old. just tragic. :(

Matt S

Gonna be honest, I got over the incest almost immediately lol. That's a wild thing to say but for some reason with all the time travel and murdered kids and looming apocalypse, I was just like you know what enjoy your aunt. You deserve something nice Jonas.

Matt S

That scene blew my [redacted]

I feel like hannah is gonna get with Daniel k. because we dont know who Ines' mother is, annnnd they look alike. Can't wait to see ya'll reaction to the finale! Im about to watch S3E2 now, not too far ahead, but soooo much happens!

E L Δ T E

Ines is already alive in the 50s timeline, you can see her in season 1 when Ulrich goes back to the 50s.

Kevin Landon

Maple seems to be more fixated on it, she drags it every time theyre on screen, I mean, I was weirded out by it too at times, but its not even close to being the most jarring thing in the show, theres A LOT else to talk about

Kevin Landon

Desire being the villain is a great note, never thought of it like that. Also, we know your last name used to be Kholer, no ned to hide

Kevin Landon

No, they like it, Maple just gotta let go and lock in, the next episode changes things so maybe the fixation will stop

Kevin Landon

Aw shit, I've spread this viewing out too much, I gotta rewatch this once I finish, probably so much different watching a second time

Mo

I fucking hate Hannah lmaooo I want her end to be on the level of a Mortal Kombat fatality so bad. I also despise incest in the same way Maple does, it’s why it took me so long to get through GOT so I understand. I completely acknowledge that there’s nuance to Jonas and Martha’s relationship however, if it were me in either of their shoes I can definitively say that whatever the relationship was would be over after finding out about the blood relation.😩🥴

2026-10-13 08:00 I’ve watched literally every reaction there is to Dark because I’m obsessed with the show and wanna see how people receive it…this is the only time where someone has made incest their biggest issue a lot of people forget it’s even a thing because there is so much going on ( I mean there’s so much going on I even forget that they’re speaking German)…it sucks cuz it feels like they’re ruining their experience of the show by hyperfixating on it, there’s not one soul that is advocating for incest but get over it this shit was revealed ages ago.

Dark is the type of show where everything matters and has a point, nothing is in vain, no word or action it’s all very deeply connected.

It's like they're not even trying to understand how Jonas and Martha are still drawn to each other, that one fact doesn't change the years of developing feelings they've had. The show sort of asks you to sit through the thought experiment of "what exactly is it that makes incest morally wrong" when aside from strictly biology, there's nothing aunt/nephew about Jonas and Martha's relationship. To be clear I'm not advocating for their relationship, just that I agree, it's so much more complex than these two seem to be treating it

Dustin

IN THIS HOUSEHOLD WE HATE HANNAH ABOVE ALL OTHERS hahahaha This is a really, really strong episode with so many shocking moments. Just when you think you can't hate Hannah more, this episode drops lol. The wild reveal of finally knowing Clausen's motives for being in town I love that you guys realized exactly what was about to happen just before it did with poor Claudia and Egon. Egon had been sitting on the edge of knowledge his whole life and in his final moments finally getting the clarity when it's just a second too late is heartbreaking. Oh and on the subject of the French delegation that Claudia kept rescheduling. If you go back to episode 1 of the season you see a group of people getting hanged in the future when Jonas first arrives. They are announced as "The French Delegation" which is WILD haha. The season finale is an AMAZING episode and quite possibly my favorite of the whole series. You guys are in for a real treat and I absolutely love and adore your reactions.

2026-10-14 11:00 I don’t think that you guys gonna like the best of the show if you hate Jonas and Martha relationship 🤣
2026-10-13 09:47 I don’t think that you guys gonna like the rest of the show if you hate Jonas and Martha relationship that much, their bond is pretty central to the show 🤣

Incest thing never really bothered me in Dark, because the characters are pretty up front and acknowledge it's messed up, they know it's wrong, and they are struggling with it themselves. It's not like HOTD and GOT where the characters involved in it argue it's ok. It'd be different if Jonas' mission was to reset the timeline so he can be with Martha, but that's not his goal. He is literally ok never being born if it means Martha (and everyone else) lives. He's just super conflicted and emotionally damaged after everything and struggles with it.

Yeah, Dark is one of my favorite shows (as convoluted as it can be), and I've held off on their reactions seeing in how many of their outros they just seem annoyed and confused at the show overall.
