Rouge had to endure her pregnancy for 20 months so that the Marines don't find Ace. Garp was probably the only Marine who could agree to disobey the World Government to protect THAT baby at the time, which is why Roger asked him. So once he had the baby in his arms, what was he supposed to do? He couldn't take care of Ace given his job and rank (not on a daily basis I mean). So what other options did he have? Entrust him to the Marines? No. Entrust him to a foster family? No, he would have put civilians in danger. So he entrusted the child to Dadan. She's a rough bandit but with a big heart and maternal instincts. As for Luffy, I think there are two reasons. First, he wanted to keep him away from the place where he met Shanks and ate his Devil Fruit. Second, I think he used Luffy to get at Ace's heart. He knew that Luffy would succeed in softening Ace up and giving him a reason to live.

Yo lucky I may be in the minority here or idk, but I think it would be a good idea after this ark is finished would be a perfect time to take a break and watch the live action. If you enjoy the fillers you’ll definitely enjoy live action lol it’s actually pretty good

xDefil3d

Um i vote no its bad enough hes watching this....

Zach Reyes

Yea but at the pace he’s watching hes not gonna catch up for another 4+ years and since he’s not gonna watch it any faster might as well squeeze other one piece content in the middle of it

Kizaru

I second this

AccordingToLucky

Hmm, is it really that good? For me to stop the show for a while and watch it? How long is it?

AccordingToLucky

Hmm, thats a good point, maybe thats why he brought Luffy to him. Not a bad POV

Kizaru

In my opinion it's worth watching for sure, and it's only 8 episodes!

Nicholas Kent

That's for sure, my friend! Because Garp, when he took Luffy to Dadan's, told him: "Ace is the one who will become your brother." Which means he anticipated this, even though Ace was clearly a dangerous child who lacked the emotional capacity to accept an annoying kid like Luffy into his life. That's because he knew his grandson was special. Otherwise, there was also the option of resigning from the Navy and living with the two kids. But I think you understand that this is unthinkable for Garp. He sacrificed his life and his family for his job and the dreams he has for the world. He even wanted to train the boys to become marines, hoping that their exploits for the navy would make everyone forget that they were the sons of two major criminals.

Garp the Hero btw. People need to know this side of him

Its good in my opinion definitely the best anime live action out there It’s only 8 episodes so it would be a 4 week break at most and it would also make sense to take a break at the end of the ark its like the halfway point of the show.

Dr. M (Mrugalski)

>bad enough he's watching this >"this" being one of the greatest stories ever told and one of the highest selling pieces of fiction in history bro what

LeonLion

I dont think you will like it a lot lucky. Its not bad for a live action but the anime is so much better. So why pause catching up to the anime to watch the same story you already watched just with real humans and worse than the anime.

LeonLion

I just dont understand why Garp could constantly break the rules and law by taking ace in or looking the other way with dadan, but not in the end when it mattered to free ace.

Ryan

One hour long episode tho

Because Garp was deluding himself. He disobeyed the World Government by agreeing to Roger's request because he thought that by making Ace a good Marine, they'd leave him alone. Which, of course, was completely false, but whatever. It didn't happen. When Ace decided to become a pirate AND make a name for himself, his days were definitely numbered. And Garp knew it very well. Everything was "going well" for Ace as long as he lived in hiding with Dadan. It's sad to say, but Ace was far too weak and far too "alone" to allow himself to do all the things he did while being who he was.

LeonLion

What you are saying is contradicting. He thought that by making ace a good marine they would leave him alone? And everything was going well for him as long as he was hiding with dadan. I dont think that it would have been very safe for ace to join the marines that would have killed him the instant they found out his identity. His days were already numbered the day he was born. The marine wanted to kill him because he was rogers son even before he became a pirate. Garp never really tried to make ace and luffy marines, him trying was telling them you have to become marines and then leave them with pirates and bandits.

Nicholas Kent

Think about it, Garp knew very well that Ace wasn't going to spend his life in Mount Corvo with Dadan. So he tried to prepare him for the idea of becoming a great Marine! He probably even wanted Ace and Luffy to change the system from the inside out, like he wants today for Koby and the new recruits. But as I said earlier, it was an illusion. Even if Ace had become a Marine, the World Government would have tried to kill him. Unless he became a guy like Akainu (but Garp wouldn't have raised him as a Marine that way). So yes, Garp lived with contradictions regarding Ace. But what else could he do? Say no to Roger and let the child die several days after his birth? At least he allowed Ace to have a vibrant life and meet people who loved him. I say it again. Ace was far too weak and far too "alone" to allow himself to do all the things he did while being who he was. But at least he made the most of life.

LeonLion

If it was possible to change the system from within why he didn’t do it himself lol He was vice admiral and his buddy fleet admiral sengoku they couldn’t change anything What he could have done was save ace again and free him from the prison. I agree with ace being too weak but that for he had people that would protect him and cared about him. Whitebeard crew, luffy but for some reason not his own grandpa. What is all that strength good for that garp has, if he can’t even protect his own family from injustice.

xDefil3d

Not everyone is a OP fan. I'm not a hater of the story just of the designs! Its just is unfortunate.

Nicholas Kent

Oh come on ! This is the moment where you start being unfair xD Marines too, as a force of law, have the right to have their moral compass, their definition of justice and their feeling of being free. Garp wants to help the world as a marine the same way Smoker or Koby do. Revolutionaries and some pirates have also tried to change the world, did they succeed? And does the fact that they are pirates make them better people? Luffy helped free a lot of criminals by messing up Impel Down, is that good? The One Piece world is not as simple as it seems

Mark
