If you look at the line right before "our lives are what matters most" he said "What matters most is your..." Meaning he only cared about Luffy's life in that moment, but decided to lie and say he cared about his life as well. It may be stupid and reckless, but Ace is not the type to run from a fight if he thinks its worth fighting. You can say its dumb and that it got him killed all you want, and you're right, but Ace will still stay to fight impossible battles. That's Roger's son for you. Also, I think Dragon left Luffy so that he could work to help the world as a revolutionary. He thought that was more important probably. Garp left Ace and Luffy probably because he thought his work in the Marine was more important. AND Usopp's dad also left him to be a pirate because of the same reason lmaooo. Garp glazers are exactly like Itachi glazers. You really telling me from a whole clan, Sasuke was the only child? No way he was his own generation like that. Itachi just did his job ordered by the village to kill off his kin, his mother wasn't even a shinobi, she can't fight. We all know the truth is that Kishimoto twisted the story to make itachi seem good, even though in OG Naruto he was supposed to be evil. Kishimoto screwed up, Oda screwed up, and they're both trying to twist the story later on to make them one of the good guys.

The reason Itachi made that decision was because he knew his clan was going to start riot. That would weaken whole city. (And potentially start new shinobi war). He was thinking like a real hokage. He was thinking about everybody in leaf village not only uchihas.

There was a gazillion ways to stop the coup, he said it himself that he could use Shisui’s eye, but the narrative had to end with the slaughter anyway because that’s what the show established in the beginning. Plus, there’s no justification to killing someone who doesn’t deserve to be killed. The only difference between itachi and garp is that itachi did it himself. And they’re both ironically the most loved characters of both shows, I would’ve loved him more if he was evil because at least that sensed.
