You saw blackbeard with that wolverine claw weapon on his hand, that's what he used to scar shanks 👀

g27

First of all, how did Luffy understand the sea kings?! It wasn’t just Shirahoshi, Luffy literally looked to his left and asked who said that when they said “Stop”, and they talked to him when they said that. Second, I don’t understand, one time you’re telling me sea kings are fodder and the straw hats whoop them ALL THE TIME, and now you’re surprised that the sea kings arrived like they’re insanely strong? Third, the ship being slowed by the bubble doesn’t make sense because if the bubble has air inside, then the ship falls to the bottom of the bubble because gravity, and the bubble pops. And if the bubble has water inside, then there’s no difference. Fourth, Luffy has Observation Haki and he let Hordy bite him multiple times?

g27

How does Shanks get the weakest kinds of injuries having the most lasting effects on him? A Wolverine/shredder claw that scratched his face, and a fodder sea kings ripping his arm off?

Dr. M (Mrugalski)

Answer to #1 is a spoiler. #2: there are levels to sea kings, some weaker, some stronger. Especially in numbers #3: fair point, its anime logic #4: seeing a small amount of time into the future doesn't help if the opponent is very fast

Dr. M (Mrugalski)

Im sure it sounds like a cop out to keep saying this to you, but there is a reason, and its a spoiler lmao

g27

Why did the sea kings talk directly to Luffy, telling him “stop”, and then act surprised that he understood them? They chose to speak to him and now they’re surprised he understood? So how did they choose to speak to him in the first place?

g27

I guess I’ll wait lol.

Dr. M (Mrugalski)

I guess the best way I can put it that the sea kings usually cant communicate with anyone except their own kind and someone like shirahoshi. She's special for a reason you will find out soon. So yeah, they'd be surprised Luffy could understand. They did say stop, but that could have just been an exclamation, ya know? Like how you might say stop to your dog even though they can't understand that

g27

Oh I get it now, yeah makes sense, thanks!

Dr. M (Mrugalski)

g27, how do you feel overall about one piece at this point? Have you watched every episode through lucky?

g27

I started watching One Piece with Lucky just after Marineford, it happened when I came back to his YouTube channel and saw him flipping out at the Marineford episodes especially when Shanks came. So I watched a bit of that, and I watched a handful of key episodes prior to that so I understand what’s going on, and I just continued off where Lucky was currently watching. My opinions on One Piece SO FAR, I must emphasize, is that it’s a show where everyone knows what’s essentially “supposed” to happen. It has a lot of comedy, at least of what I’ve seen before time-skip, but the lore is interesting nonetheless. It seems obvious to me that it reached over 1100 episodes unnecessarily. The writing is bad but the scenes, events, and lore are cool honestly. My opinion on this is because of how bad the writing is, it ruins the story itself. Like how in Marineford, Kizaru kicked Luffy across the battlefield, why did he kick him? We saw this guy point with a finger at Zoro and shot him through his stomach, he could’ve killed Luffy but for no reason chose to throw him away, or when he shot a laser at the key Luffy was holding when he tried to free Ace, why did he shoot it at the key instead of Luffy and kill him that instant? You know? Nonetheless, I enjoy watching it as a fun show, even though sometimes I’m pissed off at how dumb things get. This doesn’t seclude it, every show has its flaws, especially Japanese, just like Naruto, Demon Slayer, JJK, I heard AOT has a bad ending but idk I haven seen it yet. I’m just pointing out what’s the difference between this show and the others.

Dr. M (Mrugalski)

Appreciate your response. I would just rebuttal by saying the anime adds a lot of that unnecessary stuff that pisses you off. I think if you stick it out for the whole thing, you'll see some amazing lore and world building, which I count as amazing writing too. But yeah a lot of goofy stuff like that happens, and its either plot or because Oda thought it would be funny that way. I think people more so praise the character writing, but I agree that some stuff happens and it makes no sense that it turned out that way. Again though, the anime is the source of much BS, the manga as always does it better.

g27

Oh there’s definitely amazing writing of course in the grand scheme of the story that’s what hooks me and that’s what made this anime popular in the first place. I don’t know what you mean particularly by character writing, since you said it’s something that people praise. Do you mean how characters’ personalities develop or what types of characters exist in the story? Like how the queen and Fisher Tiger have opposing views and that’s written? Because if you mean how characters personalities develop then no, every character will never change since he was basically born, weirdly so. I do hear a lot that the manga portrays the story better than the anime, but to be honest with you I’m not a comic/manga guy, I don’t even like to read novels. The only types of story books I really like to read are historical books, although history is the most fabricated subject, at least it’s something that’s real and I can see evidence of in real life. At least One Piece is one of the good animes, I really liked AOT because of the story, and it was backed up heavily with its spectacular writing (I didn’t finish AOT and I heard the ending was bad though). I know there are some many other anime’s like MHA which Lucky is watching now, but I heard that it’s cringe, and I don’t like cringe. So I watch One Piece instead lol.

Dr. M (Mrugalski)

I think AOT is probably one of the most well-written pieces of fiction of all time. And yeah I also think MHA is not worth watching. So we agree there. I dont mean for you to read the one piece manga, I guess I'm just trying to defend the series a bit since I love it. What I mean by character writing is that there are so many incredible and heart breaking backstories. Pretty much all of the straw hats have flashbacks to childhood that really explain why they are the way they are. Like its very consistent and it makes sense. There are so many larger-than-life characters like white beard, roger, the admirals, and more to come. Its definitely a strong point of the series to be able to have so many character driven stories and lore points. And when you get into the later episodes and see more about Shanks, Roger, black beard etc, its honestly insane how everything weaves together with characters and lore to deliver some truly incredible reveals, stories, fights. I know it takes a while to get there, but One piece is about taking a journey/adventure, so if you can enjoy it for what it is at each point in the story, then I think thats enough to say you went along for the ride. To this day there are big important questions we don't know and are desperately theorizing on. Its fun to be a part of the mystery and payoff. I feel like its a modern equivalent to "The Odyssey", that ancient book about a long adventure that almost everyone knows about eventually.

g27

I agree. Without counting the ending, which I didn’t see anyways, I put AOT in my unranked Top 3 for any fiction show of all time, and most probably #1 if it’s ranked. When you said, “It’s definitely a strong point of the series to be able to have so many character driven stories and lore points.” You know that’s something I’ve always wanted and been thinking about, what if there’s a story where there’s no main character that the world revolves around, but every individual has his/her own life, all living in one giant world, just like our real world. Because in our world you see some stuff in archeology of different cultures, you see worriers and their different arts, you see scientists and their different fields, you see entertainment and it’s different types (like Live Action, or Animation and it’s different kinds, or Books like novels, manga, comics, or Media like YouTubers, sports channels, tv talk shows, or Games, or Music). There are people that exist for every aspect of this world, they have their own background and goals, all play a part unconsciously simultaneously shaping the world. I feel One Piece is the closest show I’ve seen that is like this, yeah it’s still almost like a one point story (pirates), but it made it feel like a real world more than other stories that make it feel like the whole world is just about one thing, which is what the main character is currently up to, you know? Like ATLA makes it seem like the only thing in everyone’s minds is bending, no one has a passion in astronomy😂 No one thought what about the planets and stars above us, what secrets do they hold? lol One Piece, from what I’ve seen, is the closest story to a real world that Oda has built, and I respect that. By the way, I’m regarding Oda’s ideas not his work, because his writing is bad sometimes😭. He did do it justice with world building and character individual stories. “To this day there are big important questions we don't know and are desperately theorizing on. It’s fun to be a part of the mystery and payoff.” It definitely is. I like this sort of stuff. When I was a kid/teen I used to play a game called Call of Duty zombies, and with every map that releases the whole community tried to figure out hidden Easter eggs and solve many ciphers that Jason Blundell put in that game, we uncover the story more with every cipher solved and figure out where the story is heading towards. Some ciphers are yet to be deciphered to this day, some Easter eggs haven’t been solved yet, some things about the story are still left for speculation, what was nice about that time was Jason would interact with the community himself and the guy would throw hints in unimaginable ways. One time a YouTuber made a video with him on lightning round questions and so Jason Blundell had to stare at the camera and answer Yes/No/Pass, we figured out later that the guy was blinking Morse code💀One time the community got stuck on an Easter egg and he said he wouldn’t really want to give us hints because he doesn’t want to cause a rumble, and it turned out we had to focus on the vibrations of the map we were playing on for this step. He was the golden goose of Treyarch at that time until he left. But yeah I really do like it when there’s mystery to the story and it’s not something that the show can show, but it can only be deciphered and understood through watching the show. I hope One Piece has some similarity.

Dr. M (Mrugalski)

I know what you mean! I loved Zombies when I was younger. I ended up disliking COD multiplayer though in the last few years so I haven't been playing zombies. But yeah One piece can be like that, except Oda doesn't drop hints outside of his work. Its always in the manga, SBS (Q&A), or data books. You can go back to early one piece and see how arc are allegories for the whole story, except you couldn't see it at the time on a first watch. I like AOT a lot for the same reason. Anyway, I hope you can let some of the plot holes go haha, I think part of it is that is poorly portrayed in the anime, but Oda def makes mistakes sometimes. If you keep watching, I'm sure there will be more stuff upcoming that blows your mind!

g27

I’m with you brother, last time I played a game generally was 2019. About the allegories in older arcs, this does make me want to watch One Piece from the beginning but I really don’t have the time, and I don’t think I ever will. Because that’d also mean I’d have to be dedicated when watching this show, and I don’t want to put time in studying this show that deeply like Nicholas Kent, I don’t have the passion and time to do so for a few reasons. I ‘will’ let some of the plot holes go, I can enjoy this show if I don’t take it seriously. But I will point them out when I see them at the time, at least to speak my mind, pointing them out doesn’t mean I hold them against Oda as grudges lol, I’m just reacting on stuff I’m seeing. It was a bit nonsensical about the ship being engulfed by the bubble lol, but by the way, it’s not like Oda solves physics equations on a paper to decide how big an explosion will be😂 I do know that there will be upcoming stuff that will blow my mind, that’s why I keep watching.

g27

Rip, he just died.
