Blue buddy

Thank you for the uploads can’t wait to watch this later Also incase you know there is no JJK this week because of the Olympics it’s coming back on the 26th

Liberationpocket

I've searched for many reasons why Oda doesn't kill off characters and the most common thing I found was that Oda prefers a lighter story where everyone overcomes a struggle and celebrates. Every arc ends in a party of some kind. The second common info I found was that death actually means something to Oda. Instead of "plot armor" he uses "plot death" where characters that die serve the purpose of progressing the plot. I completely understand that approach because every death that we did see, hits WAY harder than anything from JJK

Philip

That was a good theory that CP9 might have those SMILES, but all the SMILE fruits have that red and yellow polka dot look, and we saw Kaku eat his devil fruit, it didn't look the same. We can assume Lucci has the real deal too and Caesar probably only started his SAD manufacturing post timeskip when the island became uninhabitable thanks to the admiral fight

g27

Nah that isn’t a good reason, and Ace’s death was a stupid death so instead of hitting hard it felt weird as hell especially considering how their world operates.

Liberationpocket

Aye I'm just stating what I've seen straight from the author. If Ace was supposed to die in his story, so be it. The story would've been completely different if it went any other way. Which is why I say, the deaths in this show project the rest of the story. They ARE meaningful. Maybe they don't make sense but you can't say they don't mean anything to the story

Philip

Ace's death invalidates all the fighting everyone did to free him since he was seconds away from escaping. Yes Akainu is a master ragebaiter, but it does track with Ace's character. Ace's pride is a pattern we've seen like when he wants to take responsibility for Blackbeard and chases him down solo or in his backstory we saw how obsessed he was with proving he deserved to be born. Whitebeard gave him the family he never had because of Roger's name. So by Akainu calling Whitebeard a loser, he was attacked the man who gave his life meaning and implied the life Ace chose was worthless. In that sort of a heated moment, when emotions are all over the place, it's hard to be logical. I still think his death was super emotional, but agree it could have been done better, but I still would argue it makes sense narratively for his character to act that way

Liberationpocket

I agree with you for the most part. However, I don't think Ace's death necessarily invalidates the fighting because there was always a chance. Everyone who showed up knew that there was a chance for anything to happen. The fighting itself validates the reason WHY they were there in the first place, regardless if they were successful or not. Like imagine another plot where we did all these things on PH just to be beaten and Caesar gets what he wanted. How is that too far fetched? Much less whenever you're strolling up against the Marine Headquarters just for the small chance of rescuing one dude who arguably could've been executed a couple times WAY before Whitebeard ever showed up

Philip

I completely agree with you, I don't think the war was invalidated and they knew the risk going into Navy HQ. What I meant by "Ace's death" was more so the manner of Ace's death. If we had done everything possible and the Marines still executed him before we got to him, that sucks, but it was a rare chance anyway. At least we did our best. But we did set him free, seconds away from jumping on a ship to escape, and he turned around to fight someone he knew he couldn't defeat because his pride didn't let him walk away. That personal flaw of him kind of "choosing" to die the way he died after all the work that was already put in is what makes me feel like their efforts were invalidated. Maybe that's just the sunk cost fallacy, but that's how it feels for me

g27

Yeah it resonated with his character to take these actions. But the way Ace died, a hole through his chest, like we haven’t seen a person explode before, or another get decimated, or a devil fruit user get drowned in Mariana’s trench, even Luffy was pierced in the chest and he just ate meat and all is good lol. That didn’t make sense even narratively. The issue isn’t whether Ace was supposed to die story wise, it’s that the writing doesn’t sense so it becomes weird instead of hitting hard. The difference between Ace and Whitebeard was that Whitebeard was always supposed to die, it was obvious, he was just on edge with death so that doesn’t really count, but Ace was supposed to be the plot twist, the thing that felt like a sacrifice, or loss, but it fell short because he couldn’t make sense of it, so it became forced.

g27

Can’t they press the upload button? Lol It’s not like they’re animating and voice acting each episode during the week.

Blue buddy

There posting a recap for some reason but not the episode I think frieren is also taking a break week because of the Olympics

g27

That’s nice, at least there’s something to watch. I hope they put their minds into that recap, ie include specific scenes that hold hints and Easter eggs or play a subtle role for later in the plot.

Liberationpocket

Ahhhh I understand what you're saying now. You feel like Ace himself invalidated the whole reason for the fighting. By that, I definitely feel that. I'm sorry for not understanding before, but I get it now lol. My bad

Liberationpocket

I get your stance too. It does suck with HOW he went out but falling down stairs is by far, the goofiest death in One Piece lmao. Now that death really was unnecessary

g27

Oh my god is this really another time where they kill Brownbeard but he doesn’t die? Lmao

g27

Who fell down the stairs lmao? Was it the stairway to hell or something or just normal stairs?

g27

Lucky can probably react to Demon Slayer instead.

g27

Oh so it’s in a memory, that doesn’t count LOL they’d die from air if he wanted to to get that out the way lol.

g27

Honestly, how do you die from falling down the stairs, was she holding a knife? Was the stairs that steep and high? Was she a 1 year old? Was she a 90 year old? Lol

Krowft

Good callback with CP9, but as others have said, that would have been before punk hazard recent experiments (after the admiral battle). Also, recall that Califa had the soap-soap fruit and Blueno (the one luffy fought first) had the door-door fruit, which are both Paramecia.

Bogdan Petrovic

Why tf is Brownbeard getting a whole episode for himself?? XD
