Sounds like lucky may like the issekai genre, can’t wait for that journey

Ryan

It will be annoying for you but for the anime you are gunna have to pause sometimes when he gets his notifications or whatever cause they only show it for 2 sec and it’s all important

LeonLion

The power to level up in a world where no one can level up is the strongest ability

Bogdan Petrovic

Nah, he had the strongest ability since ep 1... Being the MC...

Silverskar (Movies are FUN)

Hi Lucky! In case you didn't know, the anime solo leveling isn't made after a manga but from a manwa. Manwa isn't from Japan like you are used to but from Korea (mostly south because we know how north korea is), that is why their names are different from what we are used to (the action also takes place in Korea in the manwa and anime). Also if i remember right, in korean the manwa would be translated in english like "only i level up" but this i'm not 100% sure, something i read somewhere. Thought you would like to know this info if you didn't already, great reaction as always and happy you started this journey, can't wait to see you react to the whole anime (and wait with us for the new season lol)

LeonLion

Tell that Guts lol

g27

So that’s why it’s called Solo Leveling.

g27

Why is it considered anime if it’s not Japanese?

Silverskar (Movies are FUN)

Because even if the source of the anime is a manhwa and not a manga (a korean source not a japanese one) the style of animation is anime also the studio that made the anime is japanese (A1 pictures if i remember right).

Raffalius

The show does do a decent job by having the main character read the notifications out loud most of the time tho. At least in the beginning.

g27

So in sub they’d speak Korean?

Mike G. M.

I mean technically you listen to then speaking french in sub lol. ‘Sub’ is just shorthand for “any language that isn’t English” after all, but since the anime is originally in Japanese then the sub would be Japanese initially.

g27

Interesting, so the anime dubs it in Japanese, not like there’s a Korean dub for it, but the language won’t be original to the Korean manga (or manhwa? Probably just another name for comic). I’ve never seen such a case of Japanese making an anime that isn’t Japanese, it’d be insane if for example Ufotable would animate an American show, but we’d still need the original cast to dub it lol. I can see a future investment in Japanese studios for generalizing their content productions, like how they do with their other industries (like cars and tech), more money at least, more employees, less stress, but less competition though.

Mike G. M.

Its funny you say that, because Studio Ghibli, like, the most famous anime movie studio, based based at least 3 of their films off of British or otherwise Western Stories. This actually isn’t something new tbh. Heck, anime in general started from attempting to copy Disney works.

g27

You’re right! I just searched, so they say many of their movies are sourced off of novels, which maybe a key difference to comic style mangas, is that why it looks like those old anime shows we used to watch when we were kids? Like Princess Sara? Would you say studio Ghibli movies are good? I don’t hear about them really, well each movie is just one story, but it’s not like other anime. Maybe Lucky should react to it. Also, anime in general started from attempting to copy Disney, but it’s not like they source their material from America, it’s like saying Toyota in general started from attempting to copy Mercedes lol. What surprised me was that they sourced their material now from Korea, like they cared to look into it, and then dubbed Japanese over the Korean source texts. Maybe that’s why they pronounce “Jin-woo” as “Jeenoo”? That’s also not to mention the art style is 1:1 Japanese style.

Mike G. M.

I mean; considering that Ghibi is the only anime studio to have every had one of it's films win the "Best Animated Movie" at the academy awards? Yes, I would say they are good lol. (Or more accurately they're very similar to Disney 2D animated movies in terms of quality. Some are better then others but for the most part they are really solid) I'd be down for Lucky reacting to Ghibi, but the problem though is that there's no series. It really is the same as saying "React to the Disney films". They're all basically standalone films from each other, and I'm not sure if Lucky would be interested in that, at least not right now. Just looking at a quick glance into it: they've been a few animes with Korean origin since 2000s, but it's really amped up the frequency since 2020. I also don't think it's necessarily something they "cared to look into" and more that anime studios realised a lot of people were reading Korean Manwha over Manga, and decided to capitalise on it. Why are Korean comics getting so big? Not really sure, but it's most likely because a *lot* of them are created primarily to be published online rather than then physical like most Shonen Jump manga, so they have a different "feel" to them that is getting popular. (tbh; I've always kinda seen the Korean "Web Toons" as they are commonly known as a sort of hybrid where they have Manga-style ideas and formatting, while American Comic-style art and writing) Final point; while I can't say anything regarding the pronunciation side of things: I'm just going to say this; if you go look at the Solo Leveling comic? It looks pretty damn close to what the anime does. The artist for the Webtoon was definitely inspired by the "isekai-style" quite a bit.

g27

So they say “isekai style” means the protagonist gets trapped in a different world by reincarnation. And you said Solo Leveling is isekai style, so Jinwoo is in a parallel world with his powers, while the old dimension people still think he’s dead? Or is this just Japanese and Korean is different? Isn’t it just like Alice in the Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz where the protagonist gets trapped in a different world too? Also I looked up the Solo Leveling manhwa, it looks just like the anime I was surprised, so this is webtoons. I don’t think it’s any issue if Lucky even reacts to Disney films, it doesn’t need to be a series to just react to lol. If you look at his Patreon About page, he wrote “I'll be doing anime reactions, music, comedy reactions, movies, series.. It all depends on what you want to see! ^^” So even movies. Many movies have so much to give, also trilogies or movie series are basically like the live action series that are movie long anyways, but are on a far greater scheme. Standalone movies (be they animated or live action) have this completeness of watching a new unique story from start to finish and that’s it, there’s no more of it. Having a range of different literature compared to watching one or two things forever, or at least for a really long time. It’s just that Lucky has so much going on right now because of adding more and more shows to the schedule. Suppose he reduces it and adds a movie day each Saturday for example, and we get to vote each week maybe. Sounds nice because he’ll enjoy a diverse range of good content.
