Even Diamante literally can't remember who the toy soldier is, so he wouldn't know that's her dad

To be fair, with someone like Pika they can probably just repair the damage Trebol did in seconds

I told you so. Usopp is unbearable for a good part of the arc. After that, he starts to become funny and useful again. But damn, this whole "SOP" thing with the Tonttatas is really complicated for the character. I don't know what Oda was smoking when he choose to handle Usopp this way. He was much braver back in Syrup Village or Arlong Park. And let's not forget that the guy was ready to spit his guts out and use dangerous weapons against his captain, but two years later, he's completely useless against Trebol and Sugar. I really feel that this character reached his peak when he was Sogeking. With a few flashes of brilliance on Fish-Man Island. After that, it's really really really inconstant.

Can't believe I'm saying this but this part of the Dressrosa arc, actually managed to piss me off to a similar degree as the Long Ring Long Land arc.

Well said. I almost teared up at the Kyros reveal with Leo's speech even though I knew it was coming, but Usopp just ruined the moment by being on the screen. He was so much braver in Arlong Park, willing to fight a fishman 10x stronger than him. And Usopp, you're a sniper, you don't even have to fight them close up, why didn't he just snipe the Tatababasco grape into Sugar's mouth after Robin got Trebol away? And Usopp is supposed to represent a regular human? Usopp is literally showing the worst of humanity. The Tontattas with all their gullibility are putting their lives on the line to save their friends and Usopp is cowering behind them and manipulating them to save his own ass. And Operation SOP is a serious operation for this arc, not like battling zombies in Thriller Bark. And like you said to this day, we've never seen Usopp fight with all his heart since the day he battled his own captain. This is a ragebait character arc and I'm ready to demote God Usopp down to Bum Usopp, it's not funny anymore.

Yes, it has to be said that Oda has some serious writing problems when it comes to Usopp. I sincerely think he faced a dilemma with him. Either make him stronger and therefore less afraid of his opponents, and have to refresh Usopp's comedic persona (because being the comic relief is part of the character). Or preserve his lack of confidence to continue the running gag of the coward who acts bravely when necessary. Oda chose the second option. Either because he likes writing Usopp this way, or because he didn't know how to refresh Usopp's humor. I don't know. Either way, it's lazy writing
