Did you know house plants can have magickal properties in addition to health benefits?
Plants can help to clean and purify the air in your home, bring positive energy to any space. It is the leaves, flower, seeds and even roots of many plants that can be used in magick. They can be used in spell casting, incense making, herbal remedies and healing.
The magick of plants dates back to ancient times, some of the purposes is healing, self-empowerment, love spells and purification.
Each plant has its own beneficial properties, it is said plants are living entities. They possess their own energy which can give strength to spells and other magickal working.
Witches are not the only ones who have been using herbs and plants for healing, nowadays it is common practice in most alternative medicines to use a variety of herbs and plants for healing, most dietary products or heath food supplements used today are based around certain plants and herbs.
Popular house plants
1.) African Violets
Magick
African violets are ruled by the planet Venus, promoting spirituality and peaceful vibrations. Their five-petaled flowers are protective and link the plant with the Goddess.
Water
African violet plants are picky about water, so take extra care of African violets when watering. Water with lukewarm or tepid water that was allowed to stand for 48 hours. Water at the base and never splash the foliage with water; just a drop can cause foliar spots and damage.
Light
Provide appropriate lighting for the African violet plant. Light intensity should be filtered, with bright to medium intensity reaching the growing African violet. Light affects flowering. African violet plants with dark green foliage usually need somewhat higher light levels than those with pale or medium green foliage.
Temperature
you should keep the air temperature, around your African Violets, as close as possible to 70 degrees F. At the very least, do not allow temperatures to drop below 60 degrees or rise above 80 degrees.
2.) Cacti
Magick
Cacti are ruled by Mars and should be grown in sunny windows. If possible, have one in cactus sitting in a northern window, another in the east, and so on. This helps safeguard the house against burglaries and intrusions.
Water
A potted cactus only needs water about once a month. To determine whether to water, take a pencil and insert to the bottom of the pot. If it comes out wet even a little, hold off on watering.
Light
The cactus needs bright, indirect sunlight to flower in a pot. Direct sunlight may burn it.
Temperature
Outdoor cacti resist large fluctuations in temperature, but it is best to keep your potted cactus at a constant temperature, around 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit.
3.) Fern
Magick
Ferns of all types are magickally potent and have been used in occult protective practices for centuries. They are especially effective if placed before large windows. Putting bits of tobacco in fern pots is said to increase their growth. The plant is ruled by Mercury.
Water
Add water only when the soil is dry to the touch. Some of the more tropical ferns may grow poorly, tpreferring the higher temperatures. Consistent watering, keeping the soil evenly moist, not wet, is also key to the health and well being of the plants.
Light
Give your ferns a position near a window that gets morning or late afternoon sun, and keep the ferns away from strong sunlight, especially during the summer. Direct sunlight will make them lose their leaves or turn their fronds yellow.
Temperature
An individual fern’s place of origin and adaptability will determine how high or low temperature the fern needs. Most ferns don’t like cold. Those ferns from tropical regions truly appreciate 60-70 F (15-21 C.). Those from more temperate regions enjoy temperatures between 50-60 F. (10-16 C).
4.) Succulent
Magick
Succulents are bringers of love and abundance and can be among the easiest of house plants to grow. Choose ones that appeal to your mystic sense. Succulents are ruled by the moon.
Water
Succulents don’t need water daily, but they do need plenty of it. An excellent way to keep them happy is by soaking the pot they’re in then letting it dry out completely before watering again.
Light
Green varieties of succulents will do the best indoors, but still require as much sunlight as possible. Your plant is not getting enough light if you see it starting to stretch out and space out its leaves.
Temperature
Most prefer a minimum of 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit. Fertilize once in the spring or summer when watering
5.) Sansevieria
Magick
Sansevieria can bring helpful feng shui energy when needed. It has strong protective properties for both a home or office. Other associations are Protection, purification, luck, healing, strength.
Water
Sansevierias grow in dry soil naturally, so they don’t like to be overwatered and are prone to rot if they are so.
Light
The plant likes light but will grow in indirect light and even with little light as they adapt well. Avoid areas with hot, afternoon sun.
Temperature
Moderate temperatures, between 60 to 70 degrees.
6.) Aloe Vera
Magick
Aloe vera is a lunar plant that protects against intruders and accidents in the home, as well as negative energies. It is also a good luck plant.
Water
The plant requires well-draining soil and only to be watered when the top one to two inches of soil is dry, usually once every two-three weeks.
Light
Aloe needs bright, indirect sunlight but will thrive in artificial light as well.

A succulent, the aloe is quite hardy and will tolerate a wide temperature range, but it is best kept in between 55 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
