Love watching these movies with you.

Can we consider Alyce a Jedi master now? She’s almost caught all the way up

Some of the issues long time fans had with the film were the inconsistencies with previous films, i.e. if lightspeed could be used as a weapon, why didn't the separatists just program a single droid to lightspeed kamikaze the entire Republic fleet during the clone wars? In a similar example, why wouldn't the rebellion just program an astromech droid, like an r2 unit, to lightspeed kamikaze the death star? There are many other issues fans had, as well, that were apparently echoed by Mark Hamill himself (and these interviews can be found online) about the degradation of Luke. But, ultimately, the purpose of every film is to be enjoyed on an individual level, so we SW fans welcome anyone who enjoys a SW film, even if it's not our favorite. We like that you like Star Wars more than we dislike Last Jedi, if that makes any sense lol.

I'm with you for the most part Alyce. The movie was enjoyable in spite of the flaws in the writing. I also cringed at the Leia/Superwoman scene even though I get what they were trying to do there. They basically wanted to remind the audience that Leia's strong in the force, we just never saw it before. I felt the whole premise of the slow-speed chase in outer space between the two fleets didn't make any sense at all. But the highlight for me was pretty much any scene with Rey, Kylo, and Luke. Anyway I'm glad you enjoyed the film as well!

It was so great to watch The Last Jedi with you today... I really needed this, haha. I think you nailed it with the fan backlash being Leia's moment in space and Luke's character arc in this movie but Canto Bight didn't seem to bother you at all which really bothered a LOT of people - I loved Rose and Finn in this movie and many did not, it got so bad with Kelly Marie Tran that she was driven off of social media. Of course, Rey and Ben's connection in this film is what everyone could agree on - that was amazingly well done. The three different perspectives of what went down between Luke and Ben was straight out of Rashomon, Akira Kurasowa's epic Japanese film (the first Star Wars was partially based on Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress, along with Flash Gordon serials - what George Lucas grew up on)... at any rate, in regards to some fans having to wait years between installments being what led to their dissatisfaction with The Last Jedi, that's one hundred percent the case. As an OG Star Wars fan, (Star Wars was the first movie I ever saw at 3 years old so I've grown up with these films) I had far bigger problems with the prequels, but found new appreciation for them watching with you - contrary to popular opinion I've loved the Sequel Trilogy - The Last Jedi being my favorite Star Wars film since the OT and I'm really looking forward to watching you finish off this trilogy with The Rise of Skywalker. You're saving a lot of us from the quarantine right now! I hope you help bring the fans that same new appreciation to this trilogy with your watch alongs, the way you helped me see the PT in a new light. MTFBWY!

In regards to the Holdo maneuver, I think it is easy to stop it if you know it's coming - they went out of the way in this film to indicate that Hux was so focused on the shuttles he didn't consider what Holdo was preparing to do until it was too late. R2D2 "flying" in Attack of the Clones bothered me WAY more in regards to Star Wars inconsistencies. Talk about... "THEY FLY NOW? THEY FLY NOW." lol... neither the Prequels nor Sequels can really live up to the original trilogy, but both hold their own overall, at least for me, always with the ST, and more now with the PT having watched along with Alyce.

Lightspeed could always have been used as a weapon, but no one thought like that. Just because you CAN think of something, that doesn't mean you WILL think of it. It's an extreme thing to do, and it didn't cross anyone's mind until it was an act of desperation. Not an inconsistency at all.

Robert Reichle

I thought it was a lot of fun and brought things that were definitely not expected. (Like with Luke's attitude). One thing people have to remember is that this is not Luke's story anymore. He's not the hero. Rey is. If he picked up right where he left off at the end of Jedi, he'd be a huge part of the story and basically still running the show. He had to change. And breaking up Han and Leia was a change. The old cast had to move over to make way for the new people. I love Rey and am really happy watching her story. Is it what I expected going into a new trilogy? Nope. But does it have to be what I expected? Nope.

I highly doubt that in the many thousands of years in a universe populated by innumerable space traveling species on countless worlds, not a single person thought of it. I'd be willing to concede that it's not an inconsistency, perhaps if it was a maneuver that was frowned upon or even considered a warcrime, or even extremely difficult to calculate the precise entry and exit points (Han mentions the difficulty and necessary precision of lightspeed travel in ANH, and the possible dangers), but my point is that it's not explained anywhere else in the sequel trilogy and only briefly mentioned in Rise, and I feel like the maneuver is just lazy writing, but again this is just my opinion. But I will admit that it was definitely a sight to behold, cinematically, and definitely said a lot about Holdos character.

You pretty well touched on all of the points in the movie that most long time fans disliked with your knee jerk reactions to it. I.E. Luke's character, Leia's Merry Poppins revival. Now just put two years in between The Force Awakens and this one and you could see how many reasons to dislike the film there actually are. But if you saw it out of context, it's an entertaining enough film. Thanks for sharing your impressions with us!

i predicted something like that when i watched the movie in theaters too but they changed the director/writer again in the sequel movie ps. watching this made me nauseous

at first viewing i liked this movie , later viewing i noticed the sloppy PC writing , the horrible director going in a different direction , changing Luke's character , making Po look like a weak stupid man while the female characters were the heroes . i wish they could remake this movie over again with JJ Abrams but that would mean to reshoot two movies , and what the heck was that waste of star wars time on that planet with the rich people . a leftist director showing he hates rich people . fine but to insert your personal views that had nothing to do with the series ?

I'm going to go against the grain and say that, on its own, TLJ is probably my favorite Star Wars movie, and I don't think it deserves anywhere near the hate it gets online. The only major problem I have with this movie is really a problem I have with the whole sequel trilogy: It doesn't feel like a coherent trilogy. They're all good-to-great movies on their own, but they just don't work together. Say what you will about the prequels, they got a ton of hate from fans when they came out (though more people seem to be coming around to them more recently) and they certainly have a lot of flaws, but at least it feels like an actual trilogy.
