Almost an hour long and I didn't get to the conclusion.

The conclusion, friends, is that I'm going to knuckle down and just get on with it. I'll mix up the schedule a bit to buy time to make better videos, and get a little more head space, but fundamentally a lot of this is in the lap of the gods (and making astute decisions).

More succinctly - I just going to stop fretting about it and learn to love it anyway.

Comments welcome either here or on YouTube, you know the drill.

The signals tutorial is how I found you, kind Sir!

The TM1 Channel (aka Kirkus Octavius)

I made a comment yesterday in your navel gazing post which seems to have vanished off the face of the earth, more or less. (I still see it in the comments count but no matter how many times I hit Show More it shows only 13/15 comments). However I'll reiterate a point that I made there in the hope that this one might stay around. It's not about you, it's about your audience. It's why I would never want to throw my lot in to become a vlogger. (Though I'm not you, obviously, our mutual use of words like "ephemeral" notwithstanding.) People will get enthusiasms en masse for reasons that not even YT algorithms can fathom, and they'll lose them just as quickly. Then they'll regain them just as quickly. And nobody knows why, though you can bet it's just that somehow word of a channel leaks through just the right medium at just the right time. You can influence it with your output, but you can't control it. So the "get on with it" approach (or perhaps better still, "roll with it" approach) is IMHO probably the best one to avoid tearing your hair out. That said... I didn't know about the penalty for not putting out new content constantly; it seems to me like a decision that, as with many of YT's decisions, is really, really stupid and benefits neither creators nor audiences. But as you noted in your navel gazing post you can't keep up the hours. Suggestion? Maybe do a one session sit down per week to generate three or four very short (5 minute) pieces recapping the various series last week, what's coming up this week, or what's new in the gaming world, then post those in between your real "Let's Play" series. Possible benefits? It should prevent the "drop like a rock" problem by enabling you to continue to post every day, maybe expose your audience to your other series and most importantly buys you some down time. Oh, and MSM is coming back? Yeeeessss!!!!

I am loathe to say this, given how much I bitch about it, but perhaps the solution is to record several hours worth of content one day, chop it up, and release it over the course of a week, or even just a full hour to release 2 30 minute episodes of TpF or something. I know some other channels use a similar method, and I don’t know if it would work etc...but just a thought on how it could be possible to keep closer to a daily schedule without the same large workload. The problem is I don’t know if it simplifies and streamlines your process to do it that way. Would chopping up 1.5 hours of recorded video into 3 episodes, adding the intro and outro, any other bits you wanted to add, and setting it to release over the course of 3 days faster than recording half an hour, editing it, releasing it, recording half an hour, editing it, releasing it etc... Anyway, I do get the set schedule, and if it’s 4 a week, I’ll be here watching those 4 a week as I always am now, but I am sure you’re still going to cover the new hotness when they release, even if it’s a preview, or a 3 parter of something and then bail etc... because like with RoI, that’s where some big numbers and new people can really roll in. I think it would be a mistake to lose that flexibility. All that being said however, your health, family, and own sanity are obviously more important than any of this YouTube business, so take care of that as you need to and I know the core of us will be here to support the channel and you with our words, and our views.

As far as Transport Fever ... I am 6 videos into the alps series which I am really enjoying. Rambling on here ... for videos per week ... don't burn out. Of all the channels I subscribe too only one does as many videos as you do (quill18). I hope you can find the right mix to bring in subs. I think daily videos is too much, everyone who does dailies burns out. I like your new plan. Oh ... shift+enter. Right. My other comment has vanished or is bugged so re- posting the gist of it here. I came to your channel searching for transport fever videos but the battleground videos caught my eye and I watched all of them before looking at a single fever video. You and stegs ... I have not laughed that hard for a LONG time. There must be a niche for regular people playing these 'hard core' games and having fun with it!

Morning Cnl, very interesting watch as always. My only immediate thought is wondering whether you're taking a bit of a risk cutting TpF down to once a week if it's your most popular series. I understand the need to change things up a bit. But would it not make more sense to keep 2 a week while it's getting you the views?

Something interesting I noticed this week and I'm not sure what you would think or how it would go but, to add to the new revised schedule...have you thought about throwing in random videos on new Transport Fever mods? This week the RMS Lusitania mod came out. Skye Storme did a new vid almost immediately and although I do not watch his work the view count on the thing shot up like a rocket and it kept showing up in my YouTube feed of something I should watch. It might take a bit of editing but keep a generic testing map on the side in your saved games and during the week if a really cool new mod comes out throw it in, record a 5-10 minute video showing capabilities, speed, strength, potential etc., I think that would be really cool and might grab some more attention from the TpF gamers in the community. And I have said before, you need to take care of yourself and your family first. Most of us will still and always be here for you. And on a side note you and Captain Pantless just keep rocking it :D Steggs and the Colonel, a truly amazing match for gaming!

I am glad to hear about the changes you're implementing. They sound good and the special videos for Patrons is a really nice addition. Better videos is a good plan. Although I don't watch Skye Storme (his game style really doesn't appeal to me), I do watch another gamer (Biffa: Strategy, Survival & Indie Games). He plays similar to you and, like your videos, I look forward to each one as it comes out. :) I'm happy to be entertained by either of you. Have you thought of playing Aven Colony when it comes out on the 25th? It might be a game you'd enjoy. Whatever you decide, I'm right here with you!
