Ladies and gentlemen, Mesdames et Messieurs. Thank you for flying Air Gallfrey. We are now entering Season 2 of Battlestar Galactica, where the series really takes off. We ask that you please fasten your seatbelts at this time and secure all baggage underneath your seat or in the overhead compartments. We also ask that your snacks and nibbles are in the upright position for take-off. Please turn off all personal electronic devices. Stressing, gnashing of teeth and copious repeating of the phrase 'What is happening' is allowed for the duration of the flight. It will be a bumpy ride, especially around the Episode 10 mark. Thank you for flying Gallfrey Airlines, thanks for all the fish, and watch out for airborne Equines.

Troy Convers

What if Gaeta activated Sharon when he said congrats?

Locoturbo

So glad you're charging right in. :) Interesting thing I just noticed in this episode. Happens so fast, but if you're watching carefully, you can see the 5th firewall was penetrated and all the computer icons were red as he pulled the connections. Hmmm. :)

Troy Convers

Did you catch the actor that played second was the same guy that played Wesley Crusher's Dad in Family?

Troy Convers

I would have loved the de-ageing software used now to de-age Adama, but if you want to see how he might have looked watch any Miami Vice ep with EJO as Lt. Castillo: MF was INTENSE and his Adama is basically a slightly more mellow Castillo. Example: https://youtu.be/EnGGRpfWl4U?si=GaJskQIgguo1C7vG

Troy Convers

Yep, it's a freeze frame job and I only caught it when I watched it on DVD.

They don't say anything in the episode but just from a blue navy perspective, there are priorities in damage control. We saw the ship take other hits plus they need to refuel, repair, and rearm the vipers in case they're needed again (and Galactica is known to be understrength crew wise). Since they can't use the starboard flight pod anyway and Apollo confirmed there was no fire, it likely went way down the list in terms of damage control. Battlestar flight pods are designed to deal with crashed vipers and raptors already so they may not have prioritized investigating any damage the crashed raider may have done. Whether they should have considered a boarding party or not is up for debate but the only raider they are familiar with, the captured one, has no crew. The older ones do, obviously, they're shown in the museum (ironically in the stbd pod) but not the latest ones they have been fighting.

--When you mentioned Gaius going crazy, all I could think was "going?" I'd say he got there back in the pilot. --On the cylon boarding craft: my guess is that Apollo et al assumed that when it crashed into Galactica it was destroyed, as other ships would have been. Still, it was an example of the characters seizing the "Idiot Ball" not to check. They knew it was something new, they saw it didn't explode or trigger fires, they should have wondered what else that kamikaze run might have been for. --I was wondering whether you'd watch some of the 1978 series in between seasons, as you did with Classic Dr Who and Star Trek TOS. I wasn't going to say anything until I saw whether you did or not, but now I can say I'm glad you didn't. Unlike those other two, original Galactica was not the same series at all; the new series took from it the basic premise and some character names but nothing else, so there's really no connection. Plus it was as cheesy as a wedge of cheddar, even by 1970s standards. (Sample: in the pilot there's a subplot of Starbuck trying to make a deal with an alien singer to put on a concert tour as a get rich quick scheme-- all this AFTER the Colonies have been destroyed.)

Nolan

It's not. Doug Wert was Jack Crusher in TNG. Captain Kelly is played by Ty Olsson, who was born in 1974. He would have been 16 when TNG's Family aired. He WAS in X2: X-Men United as one of Magneto's guards.

Ann & Alex Taylor

Yes mate. I did a Miami Vice rewatch on FreeVee recently. Eddie Olmos is always great in it.

Nolan

Yes, apart from the Universal logo, everything synced up. The Cylon backstory prelude is in it's proper place on your versions and not cut out like they have been, the "previouslies" are in place, which is good because they are weirdly important sometimes. And we should all now have the same title sequence, which now includes a survivor count, and which yes, DOES change episode to episode.

John

About Cylons and downloading their consciousness, keep in mind each Cylon is an individual. Think of different individuals of the same model the same as twins in most regards. There are some differences for storytelling, but it's not like there's a single consciousness and set of memories that all Sharons or all Sixes have. We're seeing some of that in how the Sharon that's with Helo is different than Boomer who shot Adama.

bakamitai

I've got a few nitpicky things I could say about this episode from a pilot's perspective, but it was high drama for sure.

Ann & Alex Taylor

Tigh gets some great moments in this one. He's struggling, and doesn't want command, but gets the job done anyway.

Troy Convers

And it's on Colonial-1's whiteboard.

Troy Convers

Nature and nurture. Nature is the same, nurture is different. And as the personality uploads to a new body, none the experience, loves, hates, prejudices, biases are lost.

Troy Convers

So much for me not checking IMDB.😆 Huge resemblance IMHO.

John

Agreed. Each individual has their own unique personality that is downloaded. They don't all automatically share the same experiences, loves, hates, prejudices, etc. They can share memories, but they don't all download the same personality as all the others of their line.

bakamitai

Oh one other thing, do pay attention to the number shown in the opening credits.

tal goren

also, the commercials break "fade to black" is now the same length as my version.
