Hello everyone!

I hope you're having a wonderful day/week. I wanted to make this post because I've seen a couple of comments and wanted to get everyone's opinion on it and try to do our best to meet in the middle.

For our watch along reactions I have been leaving in a small blurred image of the episode to help with moments when videos may need to be synced up again. Attempting to give a little bit of an idea where we are so that you can easily join back up. I have noticed some comments though stating that the blurred image is a little too much for their eyes, which I totally understand. That's why I made the effort to make the image a little smaller, in hopes that it would help ease on the eyes a little bit more.

If more than enough people are okay with it as is, then I can keep doing that. But I wanted to put the offer on the table. Another option is that I could have small bits of the blurred video intermittently cut in throughout the reaction instead of it's entirety.

Go ahead and pick your option below! Thank you all for your amazing support and kindness and input!

For myself, I love to have the blurred image to keep track of scene changes and be able to sync up better, so I hope it stays.

I can't stand things that appear and disappear, I find them completely distracting and stressing for some reason 😅. So my first choice would be to leave them as they are now, and my next choice would be to remove them completely.

I listen on my phone and watch the show on my TV I need something to be able to "re-symc" if I have to pause (Life does get in the way.) Audio alone isn't enough to know where I was. I'm sorry to those that have an issue with Blurred video but I do find it helpful.

Nolan

I also tend to coverup the blurred image with my media player, then check the sync every once in awhile, or when the reactions seem egregiously delayed/advanced.

Martyn Hill

Please keep the blurred image, I am watching BSG from a DVD and it plays slightly faster than your image, so I usually stop and wait for a few seconds when we get a new scene, the blurred image is vital to help with this as I can see when you change scene as well.

Personally it’s been really useful

John

The blurred image is very helpful in staying on sync. Please don't get rid of it. Even a timer isn't as helpful since different sources may have different start times or intros.

Alex

I’m with everyone else who finds it helpful it being there both to catch up when it’s totally out of sync and also to check now and again with a quick glance that they are still synced.

Dan Williams

Not easy managing multiple devices and videos. Very much prefer the old way of "copyright violations" LOL... Having the actual video you're watching on the screen, instead of having to manage my own on the side. Maybe a semi-transparent video, instead of blurred?

Dor

Blur is good. I just place my other player on top of it once sync'd.

Julia Contreras

I just changed my subscription to a lower tier, but during the last reactions of Steven Universe keeping the video blurred during the entire reaction was a great help to keep my video in sync and make the necessary adjustments without having to rewind or pause one of the videos for more than a few seconds. I don't find it particularly distracting as I usually overlay my own video with yours once I'm happy with the sync.

Artemis Zeidman

Can’t say I have a strong opinion at the moment, as, TBH, I haven’t watched much content since you stopped including the picture-in-picture to make the videos copyright compliant. I don’t subscribe to any paid streaming services (I prefer to just support my favorite content creators, like you all, directly), and even if I can find something streaming for free, it’s a lot of added effort to queue it up separately on my laptop or PlayStation. I’d say if the blur is overwhelming some viewers sensorily, then get rid of it entirely or just play it for a few moments at the beginning of the video for syncing purposes. I remember having similar sensory overwhelm issues when you all tried experimenting with open captions (which I was extremely thankful you discontinued), and it’s important to be sensitive to everyone’s needs so no one is excluded.

Do whatever you feel professionally I say

I find the blurred image very helpful in keeping things in sync: I generally have to readjust multiple times during an episode. (I'd like it more if we could still have unblurred video and sound, but I do understand why that's no longer possible.)

Josef Schiltz

For me, a very transparent image would be fine IF you can get away with it. Jess, on her channel Sesskasays, has occasional vision and the sound up and seemingly with no issues. Her complete Star Trek TNG reactions have no vision at all and listen along. I am one of those that cannot stand the blurredness and it just makes my eyes really ache. After working on a screen all day, the blur just finishes my eyes off and I retire hurt. I suppose that's what comes of doing digital art and I also can't wear glasses. 🙄! I'm just an awkward Aspie artist I guess. Bless you both for the consideration, Kat.

Nolan

May I reccommend if you are watching on a monitor or TV a bit of cardstock to coverup the blur, nestled into the frame of the device?

Time Lord

I worry about semi transparent because we're still crossing into copyright territory and we wanna make sure to keep on the clear path as much as we can. But thank you for the input!

Josef Schiltz

That's a thought which I will give a try on the next Dwarf reaction.

Karl Ward

Everything is hunky dory for me! I like the blurred image for the occasional resyncing purpose. Besides I'm too busy switching between the real thing on the screen and you on my tablet. I'm not looking at the blur!

Josef Schiltz

Hi Kat: I just watched Bar and Barbells' WHERE ARE WE GOING WITH THIS STORY?! First Time Reacting To Billy Connolly - Dwarf on a bus!' and the method they used seemed not to affect my eyes. It's still an out of focus image and with 'bubbles'.

TuneIntoSanityFM

No preference, I Really like how the translucent effect looks though!

Geraint Harrison

I have just been using a pop out window of red dwarf and covering the blurred image, it has been super helpful for syncing issues and would be sad for it to go!

Colin 3of5

With the different edits of various version's of episodes the blurred image has been invaluable tool for keeping everything synchronised So, I'm all for keeping the image the way your'e working it. That being said however, could you make the image optional like subtitles.

Hugo Fitzpatrick

For the BSG watch alongs the sync tends to slip slightly over time so matching the image throughout helps keep things closer in terms of what I'm watching and the displayed blur. I don't know if it is a difference between editing, video files playback speed, internet speed, or using a DVD, but it takes a little bit of attention to keep aligned.

JBool

i do use the blurred image to resync. Usually, what I look for are the camera cuts to a different scene, because those are clearly visible in the blurred image and I can resync based on the time difference. As long as those camera cuts can still be seen pretty well, I think that should be enough.

Robert Gendron

I have the extended editions of some Red Dwarf episodes, so kinda need the blurred image to re-sync. Some of the episodes are pretty much feature length and broken up for tv and some releases recombine them.
