There's stricter food standards in the UK, so even the sweets are free of most artificial ingredients. Hell, our Fanta even had some orange juice in it!

The downward spiral of Dee continues...

The episode that helped me find Philip Glass. The piano music is from Metamorphosis.

Troy Convers

Those jungle scenes are full 'Tour of Duty' TV series strength. And that Vancouver location was also used in Stargate SG1.

Brina Blue

I love Dee! She is one of my favorite characters and as we've seen offers a lot of her incite to others.

When we watched the show live, the rest of the seasons were divided into parts A and B with a long season break after episode 10. Oh, I don't what your source for your episodes is, but please doublecheck that you have the extended version for episode 10 of this season! If you are starting from "The Cylons were created by man" it should be over 58 minutes long.

If it makes you feel any better, we're all going to die. If that makes you feel any better, add that to the list of things to bring up with your therapist.

Chris (darkwater)

I was very much enjoying that you can't seem to trust anything BSG shows you right now. :D

Chris Devlin

I love the variety in the reactions we get here. Currently watching along with the Red Dwarf videos and going through the Doctor Who stuff on youtube (As I do my own rewatch) and both those shows have their emotional moments but they are mostly light hearted. Galactica is where I come to see the Gals suffer because it absolutely will emotionally destroy you at times and it's really not afraid of making things seem hopeless. Season 2 has so many good episodes and this is one of them. It certainly has a handful of "filler" episodes, but even the ones that don't advance the main story offer really valuable character development. It's something I think we've lost with newer TV shows where 8-10 episodes is the standard. Especially ensemble shows like Star Trek Discovery. 5 seasons in and we still know next to nothing about most of the main bridge crew (I don't think I could even name all of them without looking it up). You're never going to get an episode like "Data's Day" from TNG when there are so few episodes per season. They just don't have the time. Luckily BSG does have the time and it's got a great mid-season story that I cannot wait for you to get to.

Chris (darkwater)

Know what's really fun? Getting answers you want but realizing they just generate new questions.. :)

John

I can't decide if the lesson of BSG is don't let your guard down during the happy moments because something bad is about to happen, or to savor the happy moments becasue something bad is about to happen.

Count me as someone who thinks the banter before the reaction and the analysis after is the icing on the cake. Fun stuff that makes the channel stand out. In Canada we have a Turkish delight chocolate bar called Big Turk. It was one of my Dad's favorite candy bars. I quite like it as well once in awhile. Note to self don't send Big Turk bars to the Gallifrey Gals. My favorite chocolate bar of all time though is Coffee Crisp

5 seasons. On airing the 4th they entered a mid-season break, then pivoted to make the 2nd half a "final season". DVD box set is labeled as Final Season, not Season 5 or 4.5. S2 struggles with the extra episodes a little, but they learn from it. Even the weaker episodes offer something to the mix. Although this does include the lowest ranked episode of the whole show. I can't fault S3 at all for its length, they knock everything out of the park.

Hugo Fitzpatrick

Total tangent, but I agree. I've grown to love the Disco crew, but the main cast are mostly secondary to command for a good part of it. Now in S5 we have hard to name faces off on other assignments and 2 old reliables appearing half the time with new faces in their seats. Heck, Reno gets more attention than the bridge crew and we're lucky to get her at all.

bakamitai

Koyaanisqatsi is awe-inspiring.

Ann & Alex Taylor

Tigh is an asshole. He's great as an XO in a military command structure, despite his alcoholism, but he should never be making command decisions by himself. Too blunt-nosed and hard-headed to get his own ship. Occasionally you can identify with him, but that's about all.

Chris Devlin

It's just a different style of show to previous Trek. It's laser focused on Burnham rather than the rest of the group and that's fine. I've made my peace with what Discovery is not and instead try to enjoy it for what it is. Strange New Worlds has more or less fixed the issues I have with Disco.

Wade Wallenstein

This show is so frakking great! One of the reasons why I went for back to back reactions for it lol

Troy Convers

He did all right in the last few episodes.

Ann & Alex Taylor

Considering he was handed a poisoned chalice, I suppose so. Actually in this whole fubar situation the one thing I don't really have a problem with, is the President sending a soldier off on a secret Presidential Black Ops Mission to retrieve a special magic arrow. I'm pretty sure Presidential Authority allows that kind of thing. Bill Adama overreacted on this one IMO.

Jonathan

That's Tigh all over. He's a great XO because he'll implement the hard decisions and he doesn't care who hates him for it. But he doesn't have the people skills or the instincts to command himself.

Jonathan

I LOVE that the show puts effort into making the military stuff seem plausible. Using Dee's rank to snap her out of her breakdown, Tigh using his experience from the first Cylon war to predict the actions. Even Apollo reading back the order to get to Aft Damage Control "RFN" (gettit?). They nail it.

Pomegranate pistachio Turkish Delight from Bulgaria or Ukraine is the *best*. (I’m allergic to lavender and other flower waters tend to remind me unpleasantly of lavender, so I avoid the rose-heavy flavors.) There must be a quarter cup of flour in every box, but otherwise it would turn into a solid brick.

Trey Harris

I honestly don’t think anyone who’s watched the whole show can possibly make an honest try at answering your end-of-reaction question about Apollo without spoilers. It’s, like, THE major question of his arc, across almost the whole series. This show does such a good job of anticipating and building up audience feelings about characters — including negative feelings — toying with them, then paying it off or subverting it in a body-blow shock or the subtlest whimper. I’ve heard people say that this is arguably the show that made “no one is safe” a thing in ‘prestige’ dramas (but The Sopranos was running at the same time, so I think both had their impact on that). It’s not (just) about being willing to kill off even audience-favorite characters, it’s about doing things with them that are totally unexpected—but only because you think you know the rules about TV characters.

Trey Harris

The writer’s room having military experience (including RDM himself in the Navy) is used to good effect. In the commentary track podcasts, RDM often stops when something is militarily implausible and talks about how they figured out how Colonial military history differed from Earth’s to make it work out, at least in the writers’ heads. (Like rules on officer-enlisted fraternization, which they establish is a no-no with Boomer and the Chief way back in the miniseries, but they have to tweak it a bit from, like, US UCMJ rules.) Like sometimes it’ll make no military sense for a character with some particular rank and place in the chain of command to be doing something, but the something is important to show and so their only choices are to suddenly invent a new character that should have been there all along (which they do do a couple times!) or to say, “in the Colonial military, it just works a little differently”… Upcoming in this season we’ll hear a major character explicitly say that “detached command in time of war” gives certain officers extraordinary powers and discretion.

Trey Harris

Hah—actually I just now watched deleted scenes from this episode, and in the extended version of the scene you mentioned reading back the RFN order, they take a beat for military drama that probably just didn’t work for a lot of people without explanation: Gaeta tells Tigh it’s Apollo. He gets on the phone, asks Apollo for sitrep, then asks if he has any Marines with him. Apollo says he has two privates—and this is where we cut ahead in the scene as aired. But in he deleted scene, Tigh says to give the phone to one of the Marines. Apollo asks why. “This is my command, Colonel; if you have orders for the Marines, they go through me.” Tigh says he can’t trust Apollo, and he’s going to give orders directly to one of the privates. Apollo refuses and repeats that it’s his command. Which is correct—unless Tigh’s going to order one of the Marines to arrest him, at which point he’d just become deadweight, and he knows Tigh needs every able hand. Tigh screams that Apollo is relieved of command, and he *will* take orders from the private. Everyone in CIC shoots glances at each other because they know that’s an illegal order. Apollo calmly repeats that he’s in command, and would like orders. Tigh calms down and says “fine, I guess I’ll have to take my chances with you…” and we go on with the scene as it was aired. Great, gripping stuff—IF you come from a military background; if you don’t, it just sounds like a testosterone-fueled pissing match. 😂

I'd been watching the full intros/outros on Patreon (I wouldn't skip those!) with the episode reactions on YouTube in between, but thankfully the show is now on Amazon Prime so I was finally able to watch this as a full watch-along, which was great with this one in particular because an edited version would disrupt the building tension - like those 30 seconds of an empty hallway where your stomach is in knots waiting for the fit to hit the shan.

I'm so glad you love your goodies, I had fun making them (and got a little thrill when you showed a couple of them off!). The rambling banter at the beginning is so much fun to watch, don't stop! I'm a sympathetic person by nature, so when y'all teared up so did I. I understand why they did though. He was going to die anyway and they were trying to spare him unnecessary pain. Though she should have told chief and Callie WHY they were going for the medpack.

tal goren

I love the fact that what snapped back Dee completely into reality, was the sheer stupidity of Billy putting a loaded gun inside his pants.

You are so incredible and also SO talented!! Thank you so much again for such a sweet package and being here for this journey with us. - Kat
