Your version is missing a couple of great scenes, like a Lister/Rimmer bunk scene at the start of the ep.

Frank Murphy

I preferred series 8 to 7 , but that's not typical for most fans I'd say. Good reactions

Lizbeth Marcs

That bunk scene is actually in Part 3.

Raven Stromdans

This was way more fun watching along you the Gallifrey Gals than it was watching it originally. I can't say this experience has necessarily turned me around on the season (particularly with so much to go and knowing what's ahead), but these early episodes in particular are far less egregious than memory gave them credit for. Definitely curious to see how this all plays out for y'all. In the meantime, Keep Calm and Smeg On, Gallifrey Gals! Me and Mr Flibble will be here smoking a....hey. HEY! Come back here with the sexual magnetism virus, you little weasel!

John Veitch

It is "a senile version of Holly". The resurrected Rimmer is used to pre-accident Holly, who hasn't developed computer senility (mentioned in "White Hole") over three million years.

John Veitch

Yeah, Troy may have been thinking of the feature-length edit, which places the scene between the Part 1 and Part 2 material.

Troy Convers

The bunk scene starts with 'Two Days Ago'. Also the scene with Kochanski comparing herself with Ives in The Great Escape isn't there, so must be the feature length edit.

Bruce Bromley

Chris Barrie's Rimmer salute went down exactly as Kat thought. He was riding the wave of the audience's reaction. Also, Kat. that is a great jumpsuit. All it needs is a Red Dwarf patch. 😁

Lizbeth Marcs

That is absolutely in Part 3 if you are not watching the feature length edit.

Lizbeth Marcs

I love the behind-the-scenes-doc where Doug Naylor and Chris Barrie talk about "the salute" because you can vicariously feel Doug breaking out in nervous hives and see Chris act out his thinking in how he fed off the audience reaction and deciding to go for broke on that salute.

Chris Neumann

I've been waiting forever to see their reaction to that.

Chris Neumann

"Why are there teeth there?" "What did he inject himself with?" It's the dentist's office (which they didn't do a real good job of establishing). It's also where Rimmer sneaks into later, so it's Novocain he's injecting into himself. No idea why they kep mops there, someone must have really messy dentures!

Chris Neumann

Credit where credit is due, I think one of the strengths of the season is the Mac/Chris scenes. They're a really good comedy duo (think back to Stasis Leak) and this series gives us a lot of that. I'd even consider Mac the seventh cast member this season. But I will say to reassure you, the other officers that you don't like don't show up outside of this.

Skyrous

Notice that in the scene with Kryten and Kochanski. She's holding a stuffed animal and there are other stuffed animals on the bed. Those were for emotional support. Because they brought back the studio audience that was her first scene ever in front of live audience and she very nervous.

Lizbeth Marcs

She's so cute in the behind-the-scenes doc when she talks about performing in front of a live audience. You can tell she had a lot of fun doing it. It really is a shame she took a step back from acting because she really has some funny bits this season.

Lizbeth Marcs

You pretty much captured my feelings on this season perfectly. It's really very funny, but there are some bits that have NOT aged well (it's a late 90s comedy and there's a bit of laddishness going on). As others have pointed out, they kind of throw Chris Barrie at Craig Charles (primarily) and Mac McDonald (less often) to form two separate comedy duos and it works incredibly well. Robert Llewellyn and Chloe Arnette also have some nice comedy duo moments, too. So be on the lookout for that. I admit it. I call Series 8 my "season of guilty pleasure" Red Dwarf.

Mike Connaghan

Series 8 is when the show finally got good and/or bad again for the first time.

Sebastian Bodine

As much as fun as I do have with this three-parter, I do wish they had written Kochanski to take the lead as she would've had sway as an officer.

Troy Convers

Kat in a jumpsuit watching Cat in a jumpsuit. #Inception

Troy Convers

Naylor can't really write women.

PickettsChargingPort

These are the episodes I most feared as they are the most ‘lads’. I enjoy them, but I can see how they would get roasted. However deserved the roasting is, I’m going to die of second hand roasting when watching the reaction. I was able to get to the point where Krysten is labeled a woman and had to walk away. I’ll try to get through it, today. Love your reactions, regardless. Keep going!

tal goren

yes, I found it weird in the previous episode when they arrested them and acted like Lister was in charge even though as far as they knew Kochanski was his superior and, as navigation officer, probably actually had a pilot license.

Katrine Myra

Oh man, I'll be honest, I cannot watch the Dibbley scenes. In a way, they summarize the series VIII vibe for me - trying too hard, and only sometimes getting it right. I fully agree that Chris's Rimmer salutes are wonderful (I knew you'd enjoy those). and personally, I really like the factory reset of Kryten, and how he reverts to the OG Kryten as seen in series II... but man. Series VIII is a wild ride, and not in the best way. Thank you so much for letting me re-watch it in such a delightful way!

pbaker

It’s going to be a rough yet interesting few weeks. I find series 8 a fascinating itch I can’t stop scratching.

David Shadwell

Yeah, this is one of my main issues with this season. The way they have set it up is complete and utter rollocks. It's a steaming pile of Hotspur. The 5 of them get sentenced, basically, for trying to prove their innocence. Kochanski should be able to prove it and tear the "prosecution" apart. But, like the rest of the crew, she is reduced to being an idiot for these three episodes. It makes Hollister look like an imbecile and a nasty one at that. It destroys his credibility from the earlier episodes and turns the world this story is set in into a complete joke.
