In case you missed it, Peanut Hamper is an exocomp from the TNG Episode 'The Quality of Life'

DarkAshtar

As a fun little side note Riker and Troi's actors also did voice work together in the show Gargoyles.

My jaw dropped when the U.S.S. Titan arrived. The ship has been name-dropped once or twice in the live action as the ship Riker will be captaining, and there are some 10-15 books of whose canonicity I'm not certain, but this was the Titan's first appearance on screen. The episode with Landru is from TOS proper but I like that they used an image from the animated series. RIP Shaxs

Riker's comment as he walks on the bridge about "just finishing watching Archer's Enterprise" is a nod Star Trek Enterprise's Finale - the show was not renewed for a fifth season, and the cancellation took the writers and producers by surprise. As a way of tying the show off, the last episode of the show features Riker going through the events of the NX-01 Enterprise's last mission and the establishing of Starfleet on the holodeck.

I swear, I actually _cried_ when the USS Titan came in. Finally making that shape from the novel covers and Star Trek Online canon, and finally showing us how Captain Riker takes care of business. I personally loved the Ready Room for the finale with Wil Wheaton, his good friend for almost 40 years Jerry "Commander Ransom" O'Connell -- and just about everyone else too.

...Which still annoys most of the fan base... which makes the line in LD even funnier XD

MARK F JENKINS

Riker saving the day is almost a trope... it happened in the TNG finale in the "future" timeline, it happened in LD, and it might happen again in a certain other show...

So much to love about Lower Decks. The mix of comedy and drama, the characters... But the biggest thing is the whole show OOZES love for Star Trek. Dropping the TNG theme tune when the Titan shows up is incredible enough, but at the same time it's amazing at gently pointing out the Federation's flaws, like assuming an entire culture is 'known' based on one solitary encounter.

Travis Boyle

Yeah. I hated that. Wish they would do an animated follow up to Enterprise. The Romulan War.

Johnathan Frakes is a HUGE "Lower Decks" fan. So huge, that he even directed the live-action crossover between "Lower Decks" and "Strange New Worlds" (recommend watching that between S3 and S4 of "Lower Decks" since that's where it fits in during the "Lower Decks" timeline). According to some of the commentary, most of the TNG cast also love "Lower Decks" -- he name drops Brent Spiner and LeVar Burton specifically in one or two of the episode commentaries he's a part of for this show.

Gr8movies12

I love this show. It's my 2nd favorite Trek show just behind TNG. Your reaction to this episode was everything I was hoping especially when Riker showed up. Can't wait to see more. I really hope you decide to watch the Season 2 Strange New Worlds episode Those Old Scientists ad part of the Lower Decks Marathon. It's a crossover event and absolutely fantastic

Travis Boyle

It was so well done. Off topic but the musical episode is also wonderful. Though obviously that episode is better if you have watched all the previous episodes of Strange New Worlds.

Lizbeth Marcs

Samesies on Lower Decks being my second favorite Star Trek show, only my number one is Deep Space 9. I was really looking forward to the Gals' reaction to Riker and Deanna showing up, and they did not disappoint!

OptionZero

Kat’s face when Riker showed up Guessing she’s not the first to react that way

Travis Boyle

Awesome episode and perfect season finale. Pakleds seem perfect villains for the premise of Lower Decks. Loved that they used The Animated Series animation style for Kirk and Spock. The TOS episode they reference at the start of the episode is called "Return of the Archons" apparently it inspired the Purge film series. I was as shocked as you Gals were when they killed Shax when I first saw the episode. Riker and Troi was great to. Star Trek Prodigy has been wonderful too. Maybe sometime in the future for Prodigy. I know you Gals have limited time though.

Bruce Bromley

Frakes was happy that he never had the technobabble that Spiner and Burton got. The most he ever had, I believe, was in "Rascals" when he was BSing the Ferengi on the Bridge.

Bruce Bromley

If they do want to continue Trek after Lower Decks, I do hope that they watch Strange New Worlds from the beginning.

Bruce Bromley

That second when both Kat and Paula were figuring if it was actually Frakes's voice.

Firefly24601

I'm SO glad you didn't remember all the comments of "PEANUT HAMPER!!!" during the TNG exocomp episode. I was deleting spoilers for a WEEK on that one!

Jack O

This show is so good, I can't wait to watch the Season 2 reactions and all the rest!

Kalhoun

It was great when I first watched this 4 years ago that they were willing to take risks with the crew and show no one was safe. Also really satisfying to see the Titan for the first time in canon. I believe the ship design was used from a person who won a competition to create the Titan for the series of books released almost 20 years ago now. Glad you’re enjoying the series though. Like I said before it feels like Star Trek even with the comedy. It also gets better with each season.

Travis Boyle

Hopefully Paramount's new owners will reconsider the cancellation of the show.

MARK F JENKINS

I remembered watching a video interview with Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis when they were jokng about doing a Riker series, with them as a married couple aboard the Titan. I think they even said there would be a jazz "outro" at the end; I suspect Mike McMahan or the episode's writer saw that and wrote it into LD. :) On the DVD commentary, McMahan says that Frakes said something like, 'I know how to play Riker-- what kind of Riker do you want?' and McMahan replied, 'This is Riker at the top of his game, in command,' and Frakes said, 'Riker having fun. Got it!'

Captain Chris Dorn

Fun fact on Star Trek Online the ship that you saw as the Titan, has a special trait called "It's another Enterprise" which calls in another ship to assist you. Can't wait for season 2 😁🖖

BazT47

Great reaction. You really should watch the remaining TNG movies soon. I am just worried watching a show set after the movies may give spoilers for said movies! And you have only seen Generations so far! I mean now you know Riker is a Captain!

Joe Concepts

Now you see one great thing about this series is in some finales and even just regular episodes, they nearly forget it's a comedy and give us some really great epic, exciting scenes. And gets deeper than you'd expect now and then.

dhollanda

That Episode won Lower Decks for me. Comedy turned epic. And I loved your reaction about shaks. I was also sad, but at the same time he was dying while having the time of its live. Looking forward to see your reaction for season two.

Katrine Myra

I feel like this is where they really started to amp up the references to other Trek shows, and they do it so beautifully. My friend and I have a running joke - the first Star Trek she watched was actually Lower Decks, so whenever we watch another Trek show, and she comes across a character, she'll say "oh, that's Riker! From Lower Decks!" There is an incredible joke in this particular episode that references a show the two of you have not seen - and it got me thinking; one of the joys of Lower Decks is that when you rewatch it after having seen more of Trek, you keep seeing more hidden stuff. It's beautiful.
