The irony of Paula only liking the non-Disney Marvel films isn't lost on me. Disney should just licence all of their Marvel IP out, as the in-house films have just ruined the source material.

At the risk of sounding patronizing I wanna say I am sincerely proud of you Gals for making it through the subject matter of the last 3 episodes. We define ourselves not by the strength to not be affected by the evils of the world but by the resilience of being affected and moving forward regardless. It would have been easy for you two to take the warnings about this show patrons gave you (myself included) and decide to pass for lighter fare. Instead you moved forward and through the challenges of the show and managed to focus on the amazing characterization and acting. This episode arc features amazing performances by almost the entire cast. Michelle Forbes created a character easy to hate but also difficult to dismiss as some sort of caricature of military evil, James Callis manages to evoke an emotional performance that is both shocking but also believably "Baltar", and Tricia Helfer simply is amazing at portraying two very different versions of the "same" character, something that could come of as hokey from a different actor. Thank you Gals for experiencing this series with us.

God I love this conclusion episode to the Pegasus trilogy. It’s rare for the best cliffhanger episodes to finish as well as they started(while often good, they just aren’t as good as the setup). While I love the whole episode, my favorite part(the Apollo parts) I initially on first watch dismissed as being filler or padding for time. Only at the end does it come together on why they were there and how they drive home why it was important Adama chose not to follow through on his assassination of Admiral Cain. After Helo, I think Apollo is the most idealistic of the characters. For that reason he’s like the canary in the coal mine, and every scene with him is important. If you read up on stories of major disasters like plane crashes or sunken ships with only a few or a lone survivor, survivors guilt is a common occurrence. Survivors see women and children, families whose lives are cut short and question why they deserved to survive. They’re often driven to try and live up to the burden of feeling worthy(like the main character in “Saving Private Ryan”, to earn it). Those tragedies only involve the deaths of hundreds or thousands. The survivors in the BSG fleet mourned the death of BILLIONS(something like only 1 in 200,000 or more survived)! I would imagine most feel some degree of survivors guilt. For someone like Lee Adama, they truly NEED to feel that they deserve to still be alive. The scene where Lee is talking to his father about his decision to kill Cain(and doubly so when he learns the president both knows and agrees), you can see his spirit just being crushed by the thought that these two people he deeply respect are choosing this course. And while he wasn’t actively seeking suicide, the thought of the world and what it will be like after what’s about to occur while he’s floating helplessly in space is enough to take his will to go on. His comment to Starbuck about not wanting to make it back finally revealing why his scenes were so prominent in the episode(Apollo floating in the space is the first shot of the episode after all). That and Commander Adama’s discussion with Sharon about it not being enough to survive are the backbone of the episode, and watching those scenes through that lens on rewatches are what make it my favorite of the three part episodes. As much as there’s a ton of other good scenes in the episode I could rave about as well(the music closing the episode with Roslin and Adama might be my favorite piece in the entire series), this is already a longer typed post than I planned, so I think I’ll end it here.

- The irony of naming their stealth ship after a stealth ship on Earth. 🤷‍♂️ - Lee almost checked out just as Resurrection was destroyed, and that he wanted to go. Bookmark that. - Oh, like Adama and Roslyn weren't gonna get together; the Mummy and Daddy of the fleet. ☺️ -Tyrol and Agathon being tied up and beaten is just as harrowing to me as the SA scene last ep. And Tyrol has bollocks the size of grapefruits for winding the attackers up in the first place. Fisk seems to be the only one in Peggy's command structure that still has a residue of a conscience gnawing at him. And then he talks about Cylons as machine and we remember he's still part of the problem. -Starbuck is becoming a regular angel of death, huh? Cain has lit something inside of her - The Lee/Dee/Kara love triangle is hitting up; Dee, the iceberg below the waterline vs Kara, who is surface level emotion. It gon' get ugly - Just by her little speech Cain knew full well that Starbuck was there to off her; she's a warmonger, but she doesn't underestimate Adama. And we can talk over dialogue and blah blah about morality, but Cain is far more complex than that; on the one hand a commanding officer protecting her soldiers, on the other a damaged person who's recycling the abuse she's been meted. Razor expands more on this, as well as Gina Inviere; I won't say more because spoilers - Adama's words about does humanity deserve to survive give a hint that the Twelve Colonies have a brutal and vicious history equal to their long-lost human cousins, and that Cylons are an allogory for slavery - James Callis' performance in this ep is phenomenal. Yet, you haven't seen his best work yet

Nolan

Yes, everyone comes back for Picard S3. Too bad the quality doesn't. ANYWAYS that little peck on the lips between Roslin and Adama? Improvized in the moment by Edward James Olmos and graciously rolled with by Mary Mcdonnell. And backed by my favorite theme in the show, "Roslin & Adama." Plus, all us commenters can now breath a sign of relief about accidentally typing "Admiral Adama" in the comments. And yeah, I never got Starbuck's eulogy either. I dunno, maybe she was so enamored by Cain's willingness to go back to the Colonies to rescue the survivors and their homes, she blinded herself a bit to what Cain was like.

Derek Orr

Umm no, season 3 was by far the best or Picard

Nolan

Oh, I never said it wasn't. But every problem S1 & 2 had were still there, just papered over with nostalgia. Still a garbled mess that put shocking moments over narrative through lines and consistent character motivations. And still helmed by writers that can't world-build for crap. I'd still watch Nemesis over it.

Troy Convers

Nah, it was nostalgia berries and writing that made no sense.

One thing this episodes illustrates really well, is why the Cylons had to cheat in their war. They used subtefuge, viruses and backdoor commands to disable to Colonial Fleet, to avoid a direct battle. As we can see from this episode, these two Battlestars absolutely pulverise those Cylon Basestars, taking minimal damage but leaving the Cylon fleet and their Resurrection Ship as debris. The moment where Gaius establishes an emotional connection with the Six Prisoner, and the immediate exorcism of Head Six, is really interesting. I think Commander Fisk is really interesting this episode, a character of contradictions. He saves Tyrol and Helo from the Pegasus torture squad, but shows them no love. He puts all the logistics in place for his slaughter of the Galactica crew, but is absolutely jubilant to not have to give the order. I still really like his interactions with Colonel Tigh. Colonel Tigh remains my favorite character in the show, and one of the greatest characters I've ever seen in science fiction. He can be overlooked sometimes, but whether he is giving orders in the background, or the centrepiece of the episode, he is outstanding.

Also, I'd advise to be really, really careful when Googling actors from this show. There are very real spoilers, very easy to stumble upon, that will absolutely undo some of the great mysteries and revelations to come. This show has a staggering series of shocking twists and will utterly redefine its own reality on more than one occasion. You don't want to know how, until it happens.

Locoturbo

Fascinating - all the times I've seen this, and I never realized that Lee actively ignored the calls to respond. Somehow it just never computed for me. Thanks. Maybe I was too in awe of all of those cinematic shots of the battle with the amazing score. The quiet fade into the music as they destroy Resurrection; maybe my favorite scene in this episode. So well-written with so much payoff in this incredible 3-parter.

Matthew McKinnon-Gray

Thanks for the great reaction guys! I do have to ask though, where is the YouTube link? Usually there’s a link to watch the episode on YouTube but I can’t find it on this post. Sorry to be a bother but YT won’t let me set your videos to full screen unless I’m on their site.

I thought Picard S3 was 27 times better than "Nemesis."

-- Re: Paula's statement about such a dark show being about hope and humanity, I think it's more that if you want to make a show about hope and the best of humanity, you *have to* show the darkness, the worst of times, and the worst of humanity. -- Poor Apollo: when he realized both mommy and daddy were part of the murder plot, he was so despondent, he was willing to die?! And he knew that without backup, Starbuck likely would've died as well, which doesn't sit well with me.(I mean, I don't know how one more person would've helped them get away, but that was their plan) -- And about that, despite how well it was all pulled off, it's still the trope of "the hero stops themselves from committing murder at the last second, and is rewarded by the plot by having the bad guy die anyway, leaving their hands clean."

Travis Boyle

Great intro before the reaction. Funny and heart warming as always. This was a pretty awesome episode. Sweet ending with Adama and Roslyn. Paula's reaction to seeing Michelle Forbes is in Picard was pretty great. I liked Picard overall. Star Trek Prodigy is pretty awesome though.

Troy Convers

Yeah, but the 'bad guy' was killed by someone with a vested interest in killing her.

Troy Convers

Nolan, Cain just bought out something in Starbuck that was already there.

Troy Convers

Tigh's moment in the sun is coming.

Jonathan

Word of God has it that Lee collided with a Cylon because he was so focused on looking back at the resurrection ship. It's meant to intentionally invoke his character's biggest flaw, that Kara praises Admiral Caine for NOT having in her eulogy - Lee is always looking back. Always focused on what's happened, he struggles to move forward. Such a good episode for his character development. When his dad mentions the president is in on the plot to murder Caine... you can tell how crushed he is. He almost expected it from his father, but you get the sense he really thought better of Roslin. He's an idealist.

Jonathan

There's something so poignant about Chief instantly running to Sharon's aide when she needed him, not even caring if he lost his life over it, and then not staying to speak to her at the end.

Sad to have caught up! (in three days lol) been a journey so far with you'se and loving it, can't wait for more! I've always said there's shows I'd probably objectively say are 'better' but Battlestar has always been my number one in my heart. The way it makes me blub and feel so much every episode, the music, the performances, the politics, the characters, the shades of grey. Love seeing you see other sides to Baltar not there's more blurry lines with his relationship with Cylons after the early disgust every episode hehe :D it's always an emotional amazing experience watching it with others prone to let the show get under their skin emotionally i've loved it so far <3

Regarding the Sharon that was with Helo having memories of the Battlestar, bear in mind she was specifically on a mission to impersonate the Sharon Valeri on Battlestar. We don't have a good understanding of how Cylon memories work or how their experiences are shared or not, but it feels there was a specific requirement for her to remember Boomer's shared history with Helo in that case and it seems from what she said at least that Caprica Sharon didn't have memories of shooting Adama or presumably anything after Boomer left Caprica. But then just to throw a spoke in the wheels, she commented to Adama about what he said to Boomer's dead body. It's all very mysterious :D
