10am pst You have only begun to learn why we all call Tendi “Mistress…” But for other shows, i’d say: 1) Strange New Worlds, due to the crossover 2) DS9 - its a much graver tone than Voyager or TNG as it is set initially as a station on a frontier with Sisko as a sheriff trying to hold it together, but it will have some familiar faces. Mostly though, i think many will agree its the best written ST show with fiiire dialogue and acting performances. sisko is very not Picard but you’ll love Avery Brooks work 3) Voyager to complete the trio and for its impact. 4) everything else. Havent seen discovery, aware its kind of uneven

18:13 BST (so 17:13 GMT) I don't think there's such a thing as bad Trek. I've enjoyed all of it. So, whatever you choose next should be great. You could try watching a sample of them all, if you're unsure. Strange New Worlds is episodic so, while there is some continuity in the crossover, it's not too much. It won't even be a spoiler if you end up watching SNW because you already know how some of it ends from watching TOS.

What interesting to me about Shaxs story, is that it seems to imply that souls are a scientifically documented fact in the trek universe. maybe this explain why they feel so comfortable using the transporters.

Christian Rennie

Time for me to get a watch.... there it is.... my watch says 11:49

2:08pm in Chicago - randomly, yesterday I was doing laundry humming tunes and singing quietly to myself as I so often do. What did I catch myself singing? Galifrey Gals, Galifrey Gals GALIFREY GALS! I absolutely gave myself the side-eye (at my lack of awareness and eagerness to sing jingles) but congrats - your jingle is very catchy it seems! :-D

2:10pm CST. DS9 is by far my favorite Trek show followed by TNG. But it is a lot and since you are doing Battlestar it would be a bit much probably. Voyager is easily the weakest of 90s trek. Great cast but subpar writing with many episodes being inferior copies of TNG episodes. If you were to start any modern obviously Picard season 3 is a must for you two as such TNG fans. Really though Strange New Worlds is the best show. Such a great cast, fun tone, great writing, etc. Discovery has its moments and really deserves a lot of credit for it's EXCELLENT representation but much like Voyager the writing is just all over the place and the season long story arcs are mostly disappointing. A little to JJ Abrams Lost mystery box to be really satisfying.

Makhiel

…and welcome back, Shaxs. (It's 21:20 CEST)

Troy Convers

All modern Trek bar Prodigy is abysmal. PIC S2 was kinda OK because of [REDACTED], but yes the writing in most modern era Trek is either bad fan fiction, nostalgiawank or forced humour.

Seth Walker

Agree to disagree on that. They all have something to appreciate in my opinion. Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, and Picard season 3 are actually great while the rest are a mixed bag. I actually think Picard S2 is the worst Trek season ever but that is just my opinion.

It's 1:00 p.m. here, because these reactions are such a highlight of my Fridays that I watch them as soon as possible, on my lunch break at work.

21:32 in sunny Scotland. I've been looking forward to this episode, simply because I love the Doctor playing with the box at the end.

7:10 pm EST in Canada. Really liked this episode. The Doctor just wanting the box was pretty funny. Gotta love a foul mouthed Cat Doctor. Nice character moments with Mariner and Tendi on their girls trip. I quite enjoyed Voyager of course it does drag sometimes. The 26 episodes a season problem. Star Trek Prodigy and Strange New Worlds are great for the new shows. Can't wait to see your reaction to one of the scenes in the next episode. Lol. Anyway I will end by screaming Friendship!!!!!

8:42 pm EDT. My two cents: Disco is controversial but still worth it IMHO. My fave season is the second season, for reasons I won't go into but will become apparent. Voy has the same issue that TNG and DS9 did, in that it seemed to take till the third season to find their footing, so don't give up on it too early. (I think ENT hit its stride quicker, which was fortunate since they ended up having fewer seasons...) It's fashionable to dump on the new stuff, much like the Star Wars franchise, but it's predictable-- I remember people *hated* Empire Strikes Back when it first came out, but now it's many people's favorite. Watch for yourselves and make your own judgements... Some Trek is better than others, but very little of it is a waste of time.

Sam O'Neal

9:25 PM EDT I'll throw my vote to Disco as well if Kat is interested. There's a lot of hate for it in the community, and I definitely think it's not as good as other Trek shows, but it has plenty in it that's worth watching for. If for no other reason, you should would watch it for Doug Jones's character. Unironically one of my favorite Star Trek characters across any series.

5:47am (GMT+3) (My brother's birthday party ran *slightly* late, so I decided what the heck, lets top it off with Gallifrey Gals..😅) Also, I may not have watched DS9, but I watched all of Voyager, and that "Kazon!" joke was so hilarious and deep-cut I literally laughed out loud when I saw it for the first time😂

hmm, discovery has very few episodes with trill, but voyager has neelix. I think kat has problems with his skin pattern. maybe an AI can make trill and talaxian skin into only one color.

Richard Finch

You do not want to watch Discovery. Strange New Worlds maybe.

tal goren

true. it strange how many aliens have dots on them. although it wasn't that apparent in the 90s before HD TV

Joe Concepts

Strange New Worlds is not bad, but sometimes they want to lean too hard into comedy that doesn't always work. But like Discovery, it has what I guess I'll call a "Millenial" vibe where there's a lot of time spent on people sharing their feelings. Literally, a computer on Discovery becomes self aware and almost immediately needs therapy.

Joe Concepts

Voyager is a very uneven show for me. Especially the earlier seasons. They find their way and improve later, but I always see it as a missed opportunity. The premise had much more potential than what the show ended up doing. There's some great characters on there, but I think they were more into emulating TNG than being as different a show as DS9 was.

Joe Concepts

Paris attacked Boimler because with his outfit and his big head of messy hair, he looked like a Kazon, one of the show's earliest villains. Though they moved on from them as the show moved past them, literally.

Callum

personally i think star trek: enterprise (2001-2005) is really underrated and not brought up enough - it's a fun prequel to TOS set in the 2150s :D - btw im loving the hat Kat!!!! (7.23pm)

Troy Convers

If just for those TASTY mirror episodes.

Lizbeth Marcs

Unfortunately, I couldn't watch until Saturday at 5:30 p.m. EDT. I'm in the group that has no problem with most of modern, non-JJ Abrams Trek. Are they different from 90s Trek? Well, yes. That's not necessarily a bad thing. And all Trek series, even going back to TOS have their ups and downs. You just have to take them for what they are. I just find that it's best to view each Trek series as kind of a mini time capsule for what was happening in the U.S. at the time, because they each say something about the society they were created in. I'm probably wording that wrong. Maybe someone can express it better. If you are juggling between Voyager and Discovery: Voyager: VERY much a 90s Trek that's also trying to re-capture something of the spirit of TOS. It came out in that weird time in television where series were still episodic, but at the same time (thanks to the increasing availability of home VHS and VCRs), shows were starting to move into season-long and series-long story arcs. Voyager got caught in the middle of that. Also a bit of trivia: Ronald D. Moore, moved from being a writer on DS9 to Voyager. He ended up leaving Voyager because (and get this) he wanted it to be less like TNG and a little more gritty like DS9. In a strange way, some of his ideas for Voyager ended up in BSG (which he went on to create the modern incarnation). It's a fun show, but it's not the best of the 90 Treks. That said, the Lower Decks writers room and most of the actors cite DS9 and Voyager as their favorite Star Treks. So take that as you will. Discovery: VERY much a 21st century incarnation of Trek. It has some solid ideas and solid acting, but it really doesn't take off until S2. Like Voyager, it can be wildly uneven and I think in the beginning it tried too hard to bridge the divide between the TV verse and the Kelvin (JJ Abrams) verse. There is a strong focus on relationships between characters (with all the good and bad that entails). It's got some interesting ideas, some interesting characters. Plus it has Doug Jones, who spent years in the salt mines as a day player, character actor, and someone who was stuck under layers of make-up as monster characters getting his time to shine playing one of the leads. Also, Discovery is the reason why Strange New Worlds (which is quickly becoming one of my fave Treks) even exists. They're both worthwhile watches, just in very different ways.

It's 9:39pm om Saturday 8/10. And all is well!

rocketdave

This may not be relevant info, but I watched this a few minutes after noon, Central time, on Wednesday when the video got accidentally shared a couple days prematurely. I'm sure I would have watched it around the same time on Friday.

Jack O

I don't know which Trek you might end up watching next but I will say that Voyager has the best theme song. Strange New Worlds is great, it has some of the levity that seemed to be missing from Discovery.

Travis Boyle

Not sure what the extras for season one you are going to watch is from the Blu ray but there is one that shows each actor and how they got on the show. It's a pretty fun one if I remember correctly.

Travis Boyle

I really liked the ship designs for Enterprise. The ring Vulcan ships, the NX01, Intrepid, and Klingon bird of prey are personal favorites from the show.

Travis Boyle

Another bonus from watching Voyager now is that Prodigy is basically a sequel to it. More fun with some of the characters.

Travis Boyle

I do like the voice for the computer for Discovery. The short Trek about the character was good too.

BazT47

22:38 UK. Funnily enough I just watched your reaction to Back To Earth PT 2 LOL

BazT47

And I can't remember which video it was but Paula said okie dokie and couldn't remember where it was from. It is Rutherfords catchphrase!

JaylaSiobhanClark

Okay, Sunday 3 weeks later, but okay. Anyway I love how Mariner is so embarrassed by 'false green' that it feels like she thinks it's like blackface.

Katrine Myra

I think one of the things I like the most about Lower Decks is how it gives a different perspective on the universe in which Star Trek is set. Sometimes you do get to see everyday life stuff, but it really is all from the perspective of Important People, even when it seemingly is not. I need to read some books that feature Orions. LD is the only show I've seen that's gotten into the culture at all, though I haven't seen much of DISC or SNW. I don't even know if that's the right acronym. :D Y'know, I haven't seen much of VOY - I kind of feel the same way about it that Paula feels about DS9, and I hear that's pretty common; to be either or, I mean. But I'll join y'all if you do watch it.
