Damn... the extended version... lol

Stephen Wray

extended version? I've got unrated version in my boxset

Ash Davis

Normal vs extended comes down to how you’re watching, which will probably fall along the lines of who is watching and why. The only way to watch the extended cuts without piracy is buying the blu ray. So chances are if you have access to the extended cuts you probably already were a fan of the show and already had the discs to watch along with. But for those of us who haven’t watched the show before and were watching along on Amazon Prime, Apple, or Vudu don’t have access to the extended cuts. If I’m wrong, though, I would love to know where I can legally watch the extended cuts

Malcolm Wolf

The thing is the majority voted to have the extended cuts. When the Pals went with a non-extended version before, people complained about that as well, so they are kind of in a no win situation here.

Nolan

The extended version is by FAAAAR the superior cut of this episode, especially if one opts not to watch the hard to find "The Face of the Enemy" webisodes. But for those concerned about price points, all the extended cuts are also on the DVDs which should be at least a few bucks cheaper.

Nolan

I do wish the extended cuts were on streaming, those without physical media are missing out. Though I also like the extra incentive to buy physical, so I'm clearly of two minds.

Kurt Yost

FYI: No spoilers, but I think Face of the Enemy , the webisodes are kind of emotionally important for what will occur later. I don't want to say any more but they are better as background for future episodes.

SultanOfSwing

While I understand your frustration about how fractured the fleet is, I honestly think it is realistic. Imagine yourself in their shoes where all of your friends and family are destroyed by the very people who now hold leadership positions above you and those leaders are trying to force an alliance with them onto you with no recourse. How could you trust that the cylons that work on your FTL drives wouldn't shut them down as part of another attack? This is the apocalypse and I feel like civilization would be in chaos in that scenario.

LogicSequence

Hang in there pals, paula, things are always darkest before the day breaks.

Mike Connaghan

I would like to take this moment to criticize what you've done in this video. And now I shall watch the video.

Mike Connaghan

If people IRL behaved the way they should, Lower Decks would never end.

Ash Davis

My work around has been watching funnylilgal’s watch along, then watching the Pals’ edited reaction on YouTube!

Ricky

Well, I had to invent a wibbly wobbly machine to find the alternate universe where we watch the same version together, which I found, but for some reason Col. Tigh was played by Mike Myers in every other universe I visited....

Troy Convers

Yep. Why would you think hope exists when the one thing you wanted was ultimately found to be a sick joke in reality?

Troy Convers

I fucking LOVE Gaeta's arc. A young, idealistic officer like Dee who's light is slowly dimmed by wave upon wave of broken dreams, dashed hopes, personal injury and the realisation that the end goal (Earth) isn't happening the way he wanted. He's gone over the edge, but unlike Dee, he's lashing out at others and whether or not that's right or wrong, it's what is. Yes, this also applies to certain other characters (Roslyn) and even some viewers (Oh Hai Paula), but that's what this reality, and show, does to a lot of people. It ain't rosy cheeked Trek hope, it's Battle-frakkin-star Galactica. Like it or hate it, BSG isn't apologising for it's existence. So say, er some of us.

Troy Convers

And wouldn't that be a nightmare. Five seasons of that saccharin drek was quite enough.

David T

No spoilers, but I wanted to reassure both of you that there ARE things you can be proud of, but there has to be a moment where things become bleak enough for those kinds of choices to be made. And we ARE at the point in the series where the hard choices and honest discussions have to be made. As always, be patient and you won’t have long to wait.

Nolan

That's one saving grace of the Pals, that they post the edited highlights same day, so extended watchalongs are an easier pill to swallow.

John

It's not Star Trek. The people are flawed. They sometimes make bad decisions. That's reality - both in the show and real life. A Star Trek future would be great, but they don't live in a utopia. They are flawed people living in a post-apocalyptic nightmare. You can't expect altruism to spring forth from that. The show is about people, flaws and all.

Nolan

As far as Gaeta is aware, Two cylons tried to steal an election, it got covered up, 3 cylons tried to execute him, and a cylon shot his leg off. Not exactly stuff that would endear him to them.

Nolan

Oh, and a cylon convinced colonials to blow themselves up on new caprica. And sent marines to the Gideon, who shot 4 people. And declared martial law.

Jonathan

Yeah, I think Gaeta's decisions here are quite understandable. From his perspective the reveal of the final five has made extreme hypocrites out of Adama, Tigh, and virtually everyone else he looked up to. Look at Tigh - he was willing to send men out on suicide bombings just to inconvenience the Cylons, and he almost killed Gaeta for 'collaborating'. Then he found out HE was a Cylon, and suddenly not only can he keep his job but the entire fleet can ally with the Cylons and it's fine. We've seen the background of how all the changes of heart have come about, but Gaeta hasn't. To him the Cylons have been a hated enemy that many lives have been sacrificed against, until it turns out those sacrifices might involve 'important' people.

Mike Connaghan

Troy, thank you for your interest in this show. It is very touching that you care enough to share your feelings. I shall treasure this time we have shared for the rest of my days.

Jonathan

I think the reason Roslin can't just resign is what Adama says - it would put Zarek in charge. And while that would be the democratic thing to do, there's no way he'd agree to an alliance with the Cylons and would either expel them from the fleet or try to attack them. So everyone's desperate to stop that happening. I do like the effort they put into making everything feel hopeless at this point (sorry Paula!). The news that suicides are up, the background scenes of people being arrested, dozens of people calling in sick, and the trash that Adama keeps picking up. Adama himself popping pills and shouting and swearing at his crew. Things are BAD. My favourite moment is a Doc Cottle one though. When he reveals that despite the whole plotline of Roslin outlawing abortion, he was finding "ways around that". Lee, Halo and Doc Cottle. The best of us.

Firefly24601

Yeah, there was a poll a while ago and people voted for the extended versions of everything.

Nolan

Paula, literally enacting out the emotional states of the characters as she had hope, only for it to be dashed, and is now frusterated and lashing out over the decisions of others, is low-key hilarious. Congrats Paula, you're Gaeta! 🤣🤣 (If you decided "frak this show, I'm done" you'd be Roslin)

Firefly24601

Yeah, Kat and Paula! What the hell do you two know about television anyway? It's not like you've acted, written and/or directed anything in your lives, nor worked in the industry for over a decade, nooooooo......

Ashtara Levin

Paula, will it help if I tell you that the show DOES have a satisfying ending?

Troy Convers

Well, even Halo has warcrimed....

Cei Stockport

Exactly what warcrime has Helo committed?

Locoturbo

PEOPLE, I know you lost your entire civilization, families kids and loved ones, lived through the New Caprica occupation, have been cooped up in metal boxes for years, and with all your struggles and hardships found that your destination was a nuclear wasteland. But COME ON. Paula is getting annoyed. Suck it up!

Derek Orr

Respectfully, how does being experienced in that industry make their opinion “more right”

Derek Orr

No he is selfish

Derek Orr

And why do people think tv shows and movies are supposed to be fun?

Firefly24601

Oh, it doesn't. Their opinions are neither right nor wrong, they're opinions. The specific accusation (related at the beginning of the video) was that they were too young and inexperienced to properly form an opinion. That they should watch more shows like Friends and then "move up" to Frasier, etc, before they watched something as sophisticated as Blackadder.

Jonathan

Killed unarmed prisoners of war a while back. Of course he did it to prevent a genocide, so I think he gets a pass on that one.

Nolan

Now there is a question for the age: Are TV and movies supposed to be "fun?" Certainly, watching DS9s "The Visitor" the week after my Dad's funeral was decidedly NOT fun, yet it remains one of my most memorable watching experiences. Is media supposed to be fun, or an experience? Or does referring to watching media as an "experience" border on pretentious these days? Certainly, I have found shows that AIM to be fun above all, to be dome of the most frusterating shallow swill I've had to put up with, yet BSG, for example is an experience I go back to constantly, despite not being "fun." Interensting ponderance.

John

I think it does.

John

Much of Star Trek has spoiled us because they've shown us how much better we CAN be, so I get how frustrating it can be when we fall short of that. But the most compelling Trek stories are also the ones that deal with the flaws inherent in our nature.

Mark Chrisco

Story turns such as in this episode is the reason, way back when, I strongly suggested this may not be the show for you.

Thontor

I personally don’t think they’re adding drama just for the sake of it or that the story is treading water. The characters feel like flawed people reacting to events in a realistic way.

JXTN

Paula's mood is understandble, it can be exhausting to watch people make emotional mistakes repeatedly, but it's kind of funny that she's like "I'm sick of this shit, I don't care about any of you anymore", when that's the mood of the characters she's angry about. Wanting them to pull together, and find a solution despite the odds, is exactly what they've been struggling to do for 4 years. The've endured going through hell after hell, because they had a hope: that Earth would be their salvation. And now it's been revealed to be a fraud, and that their suffering and sacrifices and losses were for amost nothing. Naturally, everyone would break down. I'm a little confused specifically at getting mad at Laura for not handing in her resignation. She literally tried to in this episode, during her conversation with Adama. While you were telling her to, actually. He told her not to becasue it would be worse (that's how he sees it, at least). Regardless, still enjoying these reactions, I hope you find a way to make peace with the current characters' despair and come to enjoy the show again. :)
