You’re correct..Lee Cornes, who played Shelley, was one of the guards in the final episode of Blackadder II. He was also Paranoia in the first series episode of Red Dwarf “Confidence and Paranoia”. It’s a really fun episode this, although I think there are better ones to come.

HoratioMcSherry

The guy you thought was Mr. Darcy was also Lister’s paranoia in Series 1 of Red Dwarf (Confidence and Paranoia) 🙂

"Meme" comes from the word "mimesis," derived from the Greek word for imitation.

Nolan

Also, I dunno why, but I really like the end credits theme.

John Veitch

Lee Cornes was indeed one of the two guards from "Chains"... and he was Paranoia in Red Dwarf!

That version of Pride and Prejudice was my first Supporting Artist job! Lee Cornes was Paranoia in Red Dward s1 (Confidence and Paranoia)

Kieran B

Richard Dawkins coined the term meme. Edit: oh you found it :D

Troy Convers

And Craig Ferguson as Confidence!

Cedric Bombs

Loved the impromptu lesson on memes at the end haha

It really is weird that Edmond didn't have a copy of his novel, especially since he didn't seem to think it was lost in the beginning, when he didn't even know if it reached dictionary guy safely.

If you’re looking for something else great with Robbie Coltrane I’d really recommend John Byrne’s Tutti Frutti from 1987, which was near impossible to get until about 10 years ago due to music licensing issues. Emma Thompson’s first acting role, up until then she’d only preformed as a sketch comic. Absolutely brilliant piece of work, but like so many Scottish comedies also has a darker side.

Interesting thing about the Oxford English Dictionary is that a major contributor was an American in Broadmoor Asylum for being insane after murdering a man, amongst other things. He was rich enough to have a servant whilst in there, and a lot of time on his hands to read. The mission of the OED wasn’t just to give a definition of a word, but all definitions it ever had in chronological order, with examples for all of them. The OED was the brainchild of Scotsman James Murray, and to bring it to fruition he just needed to read every book ever written in English. He needed a little help so advertised for volunteers. “[William Minor] sent Murray hundreds of notes, then he sent him thousands. Minor contributed so much to the Oxford English Dictionary that Murray would later say that the whole of the development of the modern English language, from Tudor times to the present day, could have been illustrated using only Minor’s examples.” Minor would later cut off his penis…

You also saw Lee Cornes (Shelley, the poet) as "Lister's paranoia" way back in series 1 of Red Dwarf

Troy Convers

Steve Steen, Jim Sweeney and Jim Cornes (Byron, Shelley, Coleridge) were three of the players in the original 'Whos Line is it Anyway' back in the 80's.

Early 'Cracker' was great too.
