Series 3 is probably my favourite overall - coincidentally I am a Georgian reenactor, and used to do a Revolutionary guillotine display too ๐Ÿ˜‚ When I was younger my favourite series was 2, then 4 but by my late teens 3 just about cam out on top. Iโ€™m not going to say anything about 4 as I consider even giving you expectations as not far removed from spoilers Donโ€™t forget you have the 10 minute charity special The Cavalier Years which chronologically sits between 2 and 3.

Kid Baldrick *was* the disgusting creature that appeared in his parents bed, Blackadder deduced when Baldrick left home so did the ghoulish creature.

They went to the embassy but the embassy building had been taken over by the revolutionaries. It is an odd jump, I found that myself when I watched it for the first time.

1. They are in the french embassy where the party is being held. 2. They all know each other because many of them they went to university together, the Flootlights, and they were all apart of the 80's alternative comedy scene. 3. Baldrick was the hoล•rible thing. 4. Chris Barrie before Red Dwarf was a noted impressionist, Spitting Image. 5. "Left milk chocolates and an insulting note" is a reference to a long running add campaign where a spy takes extreme steps (parachuting/mountain climbing etc) to "leave the lady, a Milk Tray". Its still a brand of tray chocolates. But really mid tier. Oh P.S. there is a really good Scarlet Pimpernel tv show in 99-00 starring Richard E Grant.

I totally forgot Chris Barry was in this one & I thought they actually went to france. Like with Red Dwarf Im realising that I maybe skimmsd the lore and Im glad I can get a better look at it via you.

Hell3Quin

I agree that s3 is still very good.

No Baldrick was the thing that was doing the haunting

The party was at the ambassador's place which has been captured by the revolutionaries

An episode jam packed with British comedic talent. The usual players, plus the multi talented Nigel Planer (The Young Ones, Filthy, Rich & Catflap, Comic Strip Presents) and the equally talented Goalpost Head, Trans Am Wheel arch nostrils Chris Barrie, post Spitting Image, pre Red Dwarf!

Kieran B

Yeah I mentioned that one last week, or the week before too

Another connection is Nigel Planer and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) wrote a hilarious book back in the 90's called "Therapy and how to avoid it" Highly recommended!

I knew you'd get Chris Barrie but I was really betting on how long it would take you to recognize Tim McInnerny the second time as Froo Froo

Blackadder and "Frou Frou" both seem to assume that the embassy of France in London, which is legally French territory, will still be under the control of the royalist faction, and will hand out a reward and be hosting a party, but when they get there they find it has fallen, and an anti-royalist has been appointed as the new ambassador. But Smedley and Topper plan to trick Blackadder from the start by being both the man whom he pretends to rescue, and the man who then rescues them. Almost nobody recognizes "Percy" in the full disguise. The makeup dept did a great job.

Rowan and Tim were Oxford Revue, but Hugh and Stephen were Footlights

British comedy is usually 2 degrees of separation, everyone knows everyone else, whetehr from going to University together (traditionally Cambridge and Oxford, as the Footlights and Revue societies have always put on shows at the Edinburgh Frince), the Fringe too is a key place to meet especially those with a stand up background (but not necessarily as there's plenty of variety in shows that people do). Or they just work together on other stuff. Monty Python is a combination of 1 and 3, as is the core Blackadder cast - both are mainly split between Oxford and Cambridge. The main reason I wanted to go to Cambridge was to join Footlights.
