We did what we do best which is hit you with a random, unasked for show out of the blue, but don't you worry! We're here to ask for your help on what to watch next after we finish up with Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. We've narrowed it down to three options:

The Thick of It

Blakes 7

The Young Ones

These are all shows that we've received a lot of requests for and we don't know what one to pick! I'll let this poll run for the next week or so to give everyone some time to check it out and put in their votes.

Thank you to all of you here supporting us on whatever tier. Every little bit helps make this channel possible and we appreciate you all so very much.

Voting for The Thick of It mainly to see their reaction to Malcolm Tucker

Sissy Debbie

Blake's 7. I've just started watching it again on Blu ray and I'd like to see their reaction to it.

Makhiel

Young Ones! Since this is the only one I've seen, but also because it rules.

Lintrinsic

Definitely the Thick of It

Simon

They are all good. Blake's 7 is the one that shows it's age the most I think but also for fans of OG Dr Who it's brilliant. The Young Ones is my preference as I watched it at an age younger than I should have. Pure anarchic fun. Also... There's not much of it so you can pick again after.

Kirk Deighton

Fingers crossed for a Thick of It win. If Blakes 7 takes it, it'd be fun to see the Pals, or solo pal, have a crack at the FMV murder mystery game starring one of the cast of Blakes 7, "Contradiction: Spot the Liar"

Troy Convers

The Comic Relief Doctor Who special first.

OdoKosh

As much as i love b7 , the thick of it

Paflad

I've a sneaky feeling Thick of It is gonna win this, and that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but Blakes 7 just feels so right for this channel. I honestly have been waiting for the Gals/Pals to encounter it (and Robin of Sherwood) pretty much since I discovered their channel.

Jon Baker

I am SUCH a massive Blake's 7 fan. I honestly think you'd love it. And of course, created by the same guy who created the Daleks for Doctor Who!

Hell3Quin

Blakes 7, you will adore Avon & the thief guy. Plus that ending. Oh that ending!.

capikon

Blake's 7 is certainly worth a watch, particularly within the context of furthering an appreciation of the history and evolution of sci-fi on TV. However! your content recently and currently is heavily weighted (understandably) to starship adventure quest sci-fi (Red Dwarf, BSG, Voyager, Lower Decks, Cowboy Bebop, etc), so it'd be nice to have extra variety. So I've gone for 'The Thick of It', which also has the most reaction-potential.

Hell3Quin

Robin of Sherwood is so good. I had the omnibus book of the series that I read multiple time, my dad got the LP of the soundtrack, ugh sublime, and in Pardus.at I joined a fairly exclusive alliance called The Sherwood Defence Guild who all had names based on the Merry Men (and Marion, she was there). So for a time I was Herne the Hunter of the Sherwood Defence Guild. When I left I renamed and gave my blessing for any new members to use it. These players had all been using their characters for years and despite being an unafilliated Neutral ally, no one fucked with them at all. I felt quite honoured that they accepted me.

Hell3Quin

Also its literally what they thought Red Dwarf would be.

Ben Chan

It's typically better to let reactors figure out things like that on their own without setting up expectations.

Troy Convers

B7 is a masterclass of story, casting, acting and dialogue. If the Gals want to watch an obscure British sitcom about our Gubbermint then you HAVE to start with Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister.

Troy Convers

Kerr Avon, you glorious bastard. ❤️

Troy Convers

It's so dark, it's got someone being tortured in the opening credits. Take that, BSG!

Troy Convers

Still edgy AF, and a snapshot of 1980s Britain.

Ben Chan

If you agree, you can always edit or delete that comment.

Hell3Quin

Hi, are you the Gallifrey Gals mod?

Sebastian Bodine

I know that Blake's 7 would be a great show for these two to watch since it's a good contrast to Star Trek, but I can't turn down an opportunity for them to see Peter Capaldi's most celebrated role

Ben Chan

No, just part of the community. Are you so offended that I suggested you made a misstep, even though you agreed? (also, it's Gallifrey Pals... sorry I dare to correct you again)

Hell3Quin

Don't tell me what to do.

Ben Chan

Lol.... Get over yourself. You agreed it was wrong to set expectations, so I suggested editing or deleting the comment - that's all. Don't have a cow, man. Do it or not, you don't have to get butthurt over my suggestion.

Birde C

Blake's 7 is why I bought a region DVD player however long ago. The ending wow!

Birde C

Robin... The Hooded Man

Hell3Quin

It was a suggestion. My agreeing with the suggestion WAS the edit. The only person getting "butthurt" by my ignoring your now demand is you.

Ben Chan

No, an "edit" is literally editing your previous comment so as to undo your gaffe hopefully before the Pals could see it. Admitting it was wrong doesn't mean anything. I also made no "demand" nor was I "telling you what to do." You choose to be offended at the idea of being corrected even when you know you're in the wrong.

Troy Convers

I know, who would have predicted that The Doctor turns up?

Rebelcode

Watched The Young Ones again recently and although groundbreaking and so incredibly popular at the time it hasn't really aged well (IMO)

Troy Convers

It's very much a snapshot of its time, and that's not a bad thing.

Lizbeth Marcs

I've had so many people try to get me into Blake's 7 and for some reason I just never took to it. I think I might be the only SF fan in my circle just never got hooked. That said, based on the level of love its fandom still has for it, despite it being 45 years gone, you'll probably like it as an alternative to Dr. Who. It has a similar aesthetic as the Tom Baker Dr. Who series since they were filmed around the same time.

Troy Convers

Shared a lot of the same staff too.

Natalie Cairns

The Young Ones. It’s so anarchic I think you’d get a real kick out of it

Lintrinsic

Similar aesthetic yes, but a much darker, dystopian tone. I loved it when it aired and what I've seen of it since, but I can understand it not being to everyone's taste. I'd prefer The Thick of It for a reaction rather than dated sci-fi personally.

Steve Biggs

All 3 are great, but The Thick of It would require quite a lot of knowledge about how the British political system works, so some of the reactions might contain lots of '???'. So, it was a choice between anarchy (The Young Ones) and space opera (Blake's 7) and I plumped for the latter, partly because it helped inspire things like Babylon 5 and Firefly.

Matthew Hanlon

Gotta be The Thick of It, very different to other things they’ve watched but would love to see their reaction to it.

Lintrinsic

Not really, it doesn't get that technical. Certainly not as much as other shows like Yes Minister/Prime Minister or the New Statesman. It's focused on one (fictional) government department and their interactions. It works as an office/workplace sitcom even if you don't know much about British politics. ive watched many political dramas, often with little or no idea of how their parliamentary system works and there's usually enough commonality to understand what's going on. It's more likely some cultural references might go over their heads. But that's the case with any British TV.

Stuart Cork

Whilst I voted for Blakes 7 largely because it is the only one I own on DVD to watch along with, I do have a concern for the Young Ones, it is very much a snapshot of the fringes of British culture at the time. The lack of a fourth wall or plot to much of it make it hard to follow. I don't think it has aged well either, but if it is chosen I hope that everyone takes something positive away from it. No one can ignore that the five of them were committed to it. And I think only Christopher Ryan didn't get a huge career boost after it

capikon

Further to this, I'd argue that going into The Thick of It not knowing much about how the British political system works synergises well with the show's internal atmosphere of confusion and anxiety.

Auzathoth

Voting for Blake's 7, which I do love, though some episodes have not held up well. I'd also like to suggest, given how much you liked Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry in Blackadder, their Jeeves and Wooster show. 23 episodes over 4 seasons.

Troy Convers

As much as I love B7, I also love The Young Ones, and you need a comedy to balance out DS9 and Voyager. It's the formula you've always done (drama show balanced by comedy show) and I don't see why you should abandon that formula now. B7 has no light hearted moments; it's DARK AS FUCK.

Troy Convers

He was in Filthy, Rich & Catflap and a few episodes of Ab Fab though. Both are good candidates for reactions.

Travis Boyle

Was going to say Blake's 7 but maybe since you are watching DS9 and Voyager maybe one of the other ones for some variety

Lintrinsic

In all fairness, there are some light-hearted moments but it's a dystopian show so any humour is dry or gallows humour for the most part.

Hell3Quin

Oh have you seen the new fan film on Dalek 63•88? Its really good 👍 That channel also has a lot of good videos on bts classic who stuff, like the workman Dalek in the very first Dalek story & how they are reused & who owns them. Its a lot more complicated than you'd think.

Jon Baker

I haven't! Have to look that up, thanks!

Travis Boyle

The blu ray is really well done with all the extras and what not. Just got series 1/A on sale and have hardly made a dent in it.

Lintrinsic

Much as I love Blake's 7, it's going to be a heavy mix with DS9 and Voyager. It's not like Classic Doctor Who with stories split into half hour episodes. It's 1 hour-ish episodes of dystopian sci-fi, very little comedy and what little there is is dry, gallows humour. The Thick of It is mostly half hour episodes with a few longer specials. It's very different to anything else the Pals have covered and doesn't get bogged down in a lot of British political procedure and protocol despite it being political satire. Plus, it added a word to the Oxford English Dictionary. Not many sitcoms have achieved that. Did I mention Peter Capaldi?

capikon

I am once again asking the people voting for 'The Young Ones' who'd prefer 'The Thick of It' over 'Blake's 7': 1. Change your vote! 2. Don't pull a Jill Stein! 3. Only Malcolm Tucker has a path to victory!

Lintrinsic

Could alternating seasons be an option? Starting with Blake's 7 which is 13 episodes a season IIRC, as that's currently in the lead, then the Thick of It has 3 episodes for the first 2 seasons before going to 7 or 8. I don't know what kind of mess it would make of YouTube algorithms, but as someone currently rewatching Blake's 7 for the first time since a child with my brother who's seeing it for the first time, we've needed a few lengthy breaks. I know whatever the show the reaction from the Pals will be great, but with the current mix of shows, it may feel pretty intense viewing overall. Throwing in something else between seasons may work as a bit of a palate cleanser.

Malcolm Wolf

Those voting for Blake's 7: Several months ago the show was removed from most if not all streaming platforms, so I suggest when voting to make double sure you are able to watch along with some other method.

LB2000

Blake’s 7 is still available in the US version of BritBox and season 1 and 2 are available in HD on Apple, Amazon Prime and YouTube for purchase. Season 3 will be available next year for purchase digitally if the release pattern is maintained.

Malcolm Wolf

Thanks for the info there :-) It's a shame the full show is not available right now

Lintrinsic

Are you sure it's still on Britbox? I've seen loads of reports it got taken down a few months ago, and since then it's been pulled from ITVX in the UK too. I keep seeing that it's been removed for "licencing reasons" which leads me to believe the BBC are up to something, or want to sell blu-rays.

Tom

I'm glad someone mentioned Ab Fab because I think they'd appreciate the mostly female main cast as a bit of a change.

Tom

I suggested Spaced in the YouTube comments because I really want them to react to The Cornetto Trilogy and it would be better if they watched Spaced first.
