I generally like Voyager better than DS9 b/c it's more in the Star Trek motif where DS9 intentionally broke away from that to a degree. But, it is subjective and OT while wouldn't suggest it now, you might appreciate the Delta Flyers Podcast given your careers. They (the actors playin Harry&Tom) not only review and critique each episodes they get into how the sausage is made. They've done all of Voyager, and just finished season 4 of DS9. DS9 reviews include the acotors playing Dax and Qark as well as occasional special guests.

Did, did Paula just casually (& accidentally) drop a major plot point right in front of Kat? 😄 oopsie!

Weird how the initial premise reminds me of the Red Dwarf episode 'Legion', right up to Gathoral Labin's voice even sounding a little similar. Pretty sure Tuvok could have handed the thought drink though. And speaking of fluid thought, that famous Vulcan logic is like goddamn water running though a crazy straw; it seems to follow a crazy if predictable route sometimes, but one leak and it's going wherever it wants. A great moral compass story and a sign that the writers had a good take on some of the characters this early on.

It's a terrible irony that Tuvok deliberated to sacrifice his integrity to preserve Janeway's, while also sparing her the pain of letting down the crew. (it was an act of friendship that he sees it as an acceptable sacrifice) However, in so doing he damaged Janeway's trust in him, which only leaves her feeling more isolated than before. (which as we've seen, is one of her biggest struggles so far) We saw how much she leaned on him earlier in the episode, and by the end she knows she can only rely on herself to remain steady because she can't trust that he won't bend. Instead of being able to run ideas by him, he now has to run everything through her.

Likely my favorite episode of Voy S1. RIP Yvonne Suhor "Eudana" who passed away in 2018 :( Great character moments for a lot of cast members.

Ah yes, the engineer from The Red October becomes a hedonistic elitist.

OMG -- *that's* where I recognized him from! (I mean, I know he's been in a ton of stuff, including a film I worked on when I used to do that sort of thing) I could even picture him in his outfit with the cigarette, but could not figure out the movie -- Thank you! (I mean, I know Google exists, but resorting to it always hurts my soul a little)

Minor clarification: Kathryn and Mark aren't married, just involved.

Also a nice little character moment from Tom (who's had limited screentime in this episode), because he right away told Harry to report the clandestine meeting to Janeway without any equivocation. Tom's easily stepped back into the Starfleet mindset, Harry never left, and B'elanna has grown into it. Tuvok's own character moment is that he's so used to be an independent operative that he's been somewhat infected by the Marquis mindset, so Janeway pulling the reigns on him really was somewhat overdue.

So, I tapped out of Voyager almost immediately when it originally aired. I just couldn't help but compare it to my beloved TNG, and nitpick how Voyager wasn't approaching the "Lost" premise the way I would have. So I really didn't give Voyager a fair shot. Now that you guys are reacting to it, I bought the series on Fandango, and I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying it. But I'm particularly liking Kate Mulgrew as Janeway. It's clear that Mulgrew and the writers/producers sat down before shooting started to really flesh out who Janeway was as a person, so there was no need to "find" the character like halfway through the series. That's paying off, because pretty much every time Mulgrew has one of her extended scenes interacting with the other characters, maybe saying why she's disappointed in them--I'm buying into every word she says.

Phenomenon (Doo - Dooo - Dah - Doo - Doo)

A decent episode overall, but I'm kinda vexxed that this is the second episode in a reduced first season in which the crew encounter a possible "magical path home". I really think they should have held back on this kind of plot until they've had the chance to do a couple of loads of laundry first. They've only been in the Delta Quadrant for barely two months. Are we going to get a "shortcut home" episode three or four times per season going forward?
