I always forget about Janeway's holonovel that's a weird mixture of Jane Eyre, Rebecca and the Turn of the Screw.

Leafsdude

Just a quick content warning for 2 episodes from now, if you haven't watched it yet. Pretty heavy episode.

Travis Boyle

Pretty fun "bottle show" to probably save money for the next episode. I do like the concept of Holo-novels.

Troy Convers

The next one is no picnic either.

Troy Convers

Akshually, two mind melds in TNG. Spock melted with Picard in Unification. More TNG related trivia: underrated Trek supeguest Carolyn Seymour as Mrs Templeton was in two TNG episodes: the one with Troi posing as a Tal shiar office, the other where Riker was injured while undercover on a First contact scenario. As for the episode, a decent bit of character building for Chakotay and a supernatural style mystery that does its best to misdirect. It will be interesting if they build on Chakotay's out of body experience; three characters that have heightened mental abilities? Mmm.

Vina

Wow, a mention of A Different World! I really enjoyed it when I was young! I haven't seen it since the original run though

Karl Ward

There is a theory that the primary reason for including the holonovel was to establish a Gothic horror tone. In the holodeck story, Janeway plays a governess in a mysterious English manor (a riff on Jane Eyre and The Turn of the Screw) and just as the manor in the holonovel is "haunted" by secrets and unseen figures, Voyager itself becomes a haunted house in this episode.

Oh, this one. Not much to say but I'll address the "redshirt" thing. Remember in TOS, security wore red, but in this era they wear gold. So if you believe that "redshirts" will have worse luck (I will not confirm or deny this) really now they would be "goldshirts."

Never even thought Cathexis was a real word until now.

Ben Chan

It definitely sounds like a made-up Star Trek word!

Voyager writers to Robert Beltran: Hey - good news! Chakotay's the hero of this episode! Also, you won't have a ton of lines to learn ... and you'll get to relax ... yeah, you're asleep the whole time.

Siva

This was not a memorable episode for me. Very pedestrian. Just another body jumping possession type episode. Probably better than TNG’s ‘Lonely Among Us”. Also I don’t really care much for the overuse of the holodeck on Voyager. It was fine for TNG but it kind of hurts the overall premise of Voyager in my opinion. If you can escape into a fantasy world anytime you want that kind of lessens the impact of being lost in space.

Carrie Schwent

True, but it could be argued that when someone is lost in space for extended amount of time they'd need the holodeck for the distraction from time to time to help stay sane.
