Q's quip about Riker getting the Voyager command is a reference to the series creators actually considering him for the role; he finally accepts a command only to be blasted across the galaxy. Could have been interesting. We get a lot of Continuum world building which really explains why 'our' Q is the mischievous imp that he is and Quinn could have been a fascinating character to keep recurring. Not sure if the core subject of assisted suicide is *totally* nailed, but then a futile existence, a feeling of worthlessness and questioning whether to go on is something many struggle with day to day. How it would work for a near-omnipotent being is a great premise.

Is De'Lancey wearing lipstick?

Richard Finch

One of the show runners said that the writers were reluctant to bring Q on to Voyager because why wouldn’t he just send Voyager home? But he responded, “Why would he? Where did you get the idea that Q is a nice guy who just likes doing favors for people?”

Henchman Twenty1

Gerrit Graham gives a top notch guest star performance in this one. Especially his eloquent speech while visiting the Continuum. Also Q1 works well with Janeway as Kate Mulgrew and John de Lancie have been very close friends since before either was involved in Trek. She told Shatner in "The Captains" that John was the first person she called when she was up for the role (or got the role).

Ghost Mom

yeah the chemistry between Janeway and Q is good, very different chemistry as with Picard, but just as good. Q didn't really have that with Sisko

Henchman Twenty1

A callback to his Judge Q role going all the way back to the TNG series premier.

W_E_Ray (Dungeons-Dragons Grognard since '81)

The conversation at the end of the episode regarding euthanasia really reminded me of my own thoughts after the TNG episode "Half A Life" guest staring Lwaxana Troi and David Ogden Stiers and the society that practicies ritual suicide at the age of 60. Paula's comments that she feels that she'd rather her loved ones remember her as she was rather than who she would have become, the burden to the family, and such. The two episodes, in conjunction, are really interesting to explore together.

1996 was 30 years ago. The first season of TOS was 30 years before that, 1966.

There was a TNG episode with a young Q who had a thing for Riker and puppies, Olivia D'Abo played the young Q irrc. Her parents were killed by the Continuum, sp?, irrc for procreating and basically living as mortals. So, they are capable of replacing losses/reproducing if permitted.

Locoturbo

Too bad Riker couldn't sit in on the whole discussion, considering he plans to live forever! He was also a Q... and could have also called himself to the witness stand. Dang!

Siva

I liked the ethical/philosophical debates in this episode but the Q antics do get a bit tiring after so many episodes of it.

Glad you enjoyed the cards. Fun little time capsule. Getting two Tuvoks was a bit of a bummer. I was hoping for a Neelix recipe card because they were scratch n sniff. Was wondering if it still worked 30 years later. Lol. Really loved this episode. Would have been interesting if Q/Quinn was a recurring character.

-- Firstly, I wish there was one of those 3D embossed trading cards of the Janeway/Paris salamanders! -- It's interesting - and a bit puzzling - that Q would flirt with Janeway or constantly make gendered-based remarks. (even the way he teases Picard is more like how a guy teases another guy rather than display overt attraction, imo) Despite how he presents, it's not like he's actually a straight male and it's not like it's something that would push Janeway's buttons because being from the Federation it's not something that she would've encountered in her career. It just felt a little too much of the 90s rather than the 23rd century. -- Interesting topic this episode that they would probably be too afraid to tackle now - at least not in this way.(it's funny that hearing the word "suicide" so often is so noticeable nowadays) Personally, I think that if one is of sound mind one should have the right to end one's life with dignity. However, needless to say, making it a regulated or state sanctioned action would be a hugely complicated kettle of eels.

The guy at Woodstock was named Maury Ginsburg and the actor who played him was named.. Maury Ginsburg!

I guess we can now know for sure there are not any time travelers subscribed to this patreon. they would have definitely sent Kat and Paula some random trivia answers around 1996

You'd want immortality - but with the option. Also to be healthy for it.
