All those few weeks you two were pissed with Tom Paris and then Paula figured it out, and I am glad you two are relieved

I enjoyed this, and Neelix should have said at the end of his video, "Remember to like and subscribe plus join me on spacetreon for full length interviews!" just imagine the crazy thumbnails he would make

Starfleet isn't big on safety, is it? I was looking forward to your reaction to the reveal. I feel like I've seen this scenario play out in different shows so when they showed Paris being rude to Chakotay and immediately cutting to Jonas talking to the Kazons I realized/remembered "oh right, Paris is gonna fake defect so they can catch the mole"

Mark Ten

Sorry to grouse, but they wrapped up Tom's story here way too fast. The set up was well handled over several episodes but the reveal need a full episode at least, without the b-story. Is it me or does Jonas resemble SNL's Alex Moffat playing Eric Trump?

Micheal Pillar was the one who pushed for more serialization wanting Voyager to be more about survival and Maquis/Starfleet conflict and making Alliances with overarcing villains. Jeri Taylor HAAAATED this. She wanted more episodic self-contained stories. So in "Maneuvers" we get the pregnancy plotline introduced at the last minute, which suggests a more serialized plot, then "Alliances" has Janeway last minute making that dumb speech about not making alliances and doing things the traditional way and I can't help but see that as the Pillar/Taylor tug of war in the writer's room. And then Jeri Taylor wraps up two on-going plot lines here, not at the finale, but 2/3s into the season. And she is on record as stating she thought the on-going plot elements dragged down the episodes they were in. And I guess there was a lot of rewriting going on where Pillar would write the scenes, she'd write them out, he'd write them back in... and one wonders that if they didn't have to be snuck in at the last minute and were better intergrated, they might NOT have felt so out of place. But, on the otherhand, it's the KAZON, who everyone thought were boring villains.

Aside from the very satisfying realization that the show had actually been running not one but two subplots that were secretly related, using Neelix and his newly Kim-inspired journalistic fervor with his podcast to take us to the culmination of these subplots was very cleverly done! It was a smart way to lead the audience into Janeway/Tuvok's plan bit by bit. (I feel bad for Chakotay though - and rather than see Paris apologize to him, he makes light of him on air in front of the whole crew)

I agree with one small quibble, they were right it was like local cable access channels podcasts weren't a thing yet.

Ben Chan

Yes, I know. I was describing it with a contemporary term to cheekily emphasize how Neelix's broadcast is similar to what we have now. (and that it has been around in some form or another ... back when they filmed it and again in the 23rd century)

xeve

I agree with Michael if it's well thought through ahead of time, with bottle episodes filling out a season. But, going back to the Xindi plot line, imo Enterprise wasted over a season on a bad reaction to 9/11. Now with seasons so short, it can get ugly because there's no room for variations of writing. ToS through the 90s would take submissions from outside the writers room which ended up being some of the best episodes. With the new writers contract I don't think they can do that anymore.

Hell3Quin

Honestly Pillar was reading the room at the time. J M Straczynski had changed the game with his season long (even series long) plot arcs. DS9 had been paramount's attempt to steal a march on him and had been locked in a ratings war ever since. Jeri Taylor frankly was stuck in the past.

Hell3Quin

I still dont understand how the Kazon where ever considered a serious threat when they didn't have shields.

Hell3Quin

Ok, explain Neelix's line about investigative journalists never giving up, or whatever he said after speaking to Tuvok, when he'd never heard the term before and the entire concept was completely new to him 😋 :sorry, not sorry:

the YouTube video for this seems to have been taken down. Is there any plans for a re-upload?
