Did you notice each time Ensign Wildman was pushing that Kes was also clenching her abdomen with her? Damn that's a nice touch. Also according Mara Wilson Re: Those Rules.... "No they did not"

Firefly24601

There's a reason Lower Decks picked Harry Kim to be the multiverse character! 😄

Jonas

I feel like there would be some fallout from Ensign WIldman experiencing the trauma of losing her baby, even though she got a phase-shifted one right after.

Hell3Quin

Yeh, my first comment was literally just, "Ugh". I edited it when I saw the only thing I think is good about this episode. Sorry I am genuinely enjoying Voyager more than I have before but this but.... get used to it. This one isn't even xxxxxxx shenanigans. 😒 xxxxxxx Trek. It's bad enough their uniforms are always starched!

Fun fact: ... When this first aired, the previews for this episode had the narrator say verbatim, "Think you know which Voyager will survive? ... Think again." ... So, they pretty much told you not only will the solution be the death of one crew, they told you it wouldn't be the crew we figured it would be the entire episode. ... Ah, 90s promos, lol. Also, this is one of my favorite all-time Star Trek episodes ever.

Stephen Wray

And next week Voyager will be back looking like it just came out of space dock. Which is something that Ronald D Moore didn't like hence damage in BSG stays

I realise now that this is the point where I actually started to despised early voyager. I hate this episode, I hate everything about it. Janeway could have sent 3 of the lowliest ensigns through with Kim and it wouldn't have mattered but they didn't even think of that. This episode told there were literally no stakes so I stopped caring. Obviously I still watched though. Mostly. There were honestly 3 sci-fi shows on in the late 90's. B5, DS9 & Voyager.

Mark Chrisco

It might be worth exploring that Harry Kim is not the same person and how would Wildman feel about her newborn not being the baby she gave birth to.

Chris James

I was 14/15 when I first saw this, and I absolutely loved it. I was on the edge of my seat. On the rewatch now it felt intense too. One of the best of season 2. (I now notice the 47 references more, haha!)

Makhiel

Heck yeah, subspace shenanigans. This is one of my favourites, though based on the title I thought I was about to watch a completely different episode.

Mark Chrisco

I completely agree, but, at least several crew were seen in the background making repairs at the end.

Locoturbo

Actually, they said the duplicated atoms couldn't occupy the same space and time for long without mutual annihilation. So that is a sciency reason why you couldn't (somehow, draw lots in limited time and then justify to) send duplicate crew across. Hopefully they realized this and got rid of the dead baby so she didn't annihilate the live one LOL. Oof. And I don't agree with hating on this episode. I have a lot of problems with S2 but this episode isn't one of them. I mean, I do agree 100% with the reset button issue, but if you can't accept that, I don't know how you can stand to watch the show at all...

I was curious so I went to look up sci fi shows on at the time (thinking of xfiles and some others), in the wki list there was some dubious shows listed. But, admittedly having never scene the show, when I saw Baywatch Nights listed as scifi I have to acknowledge no matter how bad a Voyager show maybe at least it wasn't that.

I understand Paula's feeling. The Borg are like, "Join with us in our collective!" The Vidians hollow you out, leaving a pile of spare meat and bone. Like Paula said, it's intent. The Borg genuinely believe they're providing you a better life, but the Vidians utterly disregard you as anything other than raw material.

Hell3Quin

oh good point, i must have missed that explanation. Lucky other Kes died early doors then.

Hell3Quin

x-files files was ok but at the time I wanted my sc-fi entirely space based & escapist. Present day earth was a hard pass.

streaky

They get killed and rebooted every time they transport and nobody cares about that - but that's weird, Harry, sure :)

Eric Aitala

The reset button is strong in this one.....
