So excited to see you reacting to this, Kat! No spoilers, but a lot of cishet male group reactors (I don’t want to say ‘bro’, but some were ‘bro’-y.) were treating this show like it was going to be Hot Wings — “if you think episode 1 is steamy, just wait!” But I think they were all surprised by how it actually panned out (and were generally alternately fist-pumping and crying their eyes out by the latter half). I won’t say more about how the season’s ‘yearning’ progresses except for that. But as for being plot-thin — part is that episode 1’s all about getting you invested in Shane and Ilya as characters and as a situatonship, and so plot comes in more later. As I think you started to realize, you have to pay a lot of attention to the time-skip cards because this show is so into the feels first that a lot of the plot gets done via year-spanning montages. And the details in those montages: whenever they show a phone screen, or a poster calendar on a team locker room wall, or an event on TV, it’s never filler. Keep going and have fun! Then when you’re done, check out the most unlikely straight guy reactors you like — as a queer guy, to a one watching their reactions has been super fun and gives me hope for the world.

Oh, just one additional thing: it helped me, as a non-pro-team-sport watcher, to learn from sports-oriented reactors that two elite players on rival teams just do not have many opportunities to meet up during the season — every day is programmed, you’re always traveling elsewhere and never (except for All-Star games and league awards or publicity events) to the same city at the same time, and your teams only play each other two or three times. And other people are handling all their scheduling and travel arrangements all the time. So with Ilya going back to Russia every summer, he and Shane would honestly only have a few times a year to meet without getting caught.

Honestly, a bright pallette cleanser after the trauma of Attack on Titan.

New patreon member. Saw your reaction on YouTube but only watched a tiny bit before I came here for the full thing. Loving your reactions, can't wait to watch the whole show with you.

Truly a nice little breather lol

Ahhh thank you for the support! So happy to have you here!

I really enjoyed your reaction, but I had to laugh at you being like, "What is the rest of the show gonna be?" Like, what do you mean? 😄 Are they together at the end of episode 1? So...then there's lots of story left. Lol! Sexual acts don't have to automatically signal the end of the story. But I know we're all programmed that way by endless heteronormative romances (most of which I love, btw - I'm a romance junkie! Romance of any kind!) The show asks a lot of you, actually. There are endless subtleties that tell so much of the story. The plot is in the characters, the plot is in the world around them and how they navigate it. The plot exists in Hudson (Shane) and Connor's (Ilya's) micro expressions that convey so much subtext and hidden thoughts. The plot and character are in every sex scene actually. Sex is how they communicate, because they have SO many blocks to all other forms of communication. So, keep that in mind when watching the sex scenes - not a single one is gratuitous, they all show an aspect of their characters and pieces of the plot. The plot is pure romance, yearning, and so much passion! ❤️ Anyway, there is so much more - and I look forward to experiencing this with you. 😊

I've watched your youtube videos of ep 1 and 2 so I realize you now get it that this show needs to watched with careful scrutiny to details. You saying 'thin plot' had me chuckling. I will be excited to watch as you progress through the episodes. And yes I (and most folks) cry in episode 2. (actually each episode!) Bring tissues. Happy Pride to all every month!
