Clown! Clown! Clown! I see a CLOWN!

Stephen Wray

We saw the clown in the Lower Decks, Voyager episode

I don't remember seeing this before but I have heard of it but could never actually find it in the run to watch bc the description doesn't indicate fear clown. Anyway, God I love that ending 😍

Firefly24601

I was SO hoping that ya'll's acting and/or clown backgrounds would make this reactions special. And I was right!

I love this one; it's quite TOS coded. I remember before the episode premiered, a lot of people on the Star Trek AOL message boards were skeptical of and outright mocking the killer clown premise, but once it actually aired, I believe the overall consensus was very positive.

This is one of my favorite episodes, but what makes it even better is that final conversation between the Clown and Janeway — and like you said, that fade to black. WOW. Michael McKean was so good in this role. I first remember him as Lenny on Laverne & Shirley, the late ’70s/’80s comedy I grew up watching, so seeing him deliver a performance like this made the episode even more memorable.

xeve

normally not a creepy clown fan, but this one grew on me because of the ending.

Locoturbo

Absolute standout episode of S2 and even of Voyager overall. To me, at least. Michael McKean is amazing and just about every aspect of this was perfect. I will never understand the dislike of this one.

Ben Chan

-- We really need a "Poor Harry!" counter for this show. -- I don't doubt some people are predisposed to dislike this just because the villains are "clowns" rather than some powerful alien or other kind of A.I.. Still, the grey-tone design for The Clown is top-tier! It still reads "clown" but also alien and someone you can take seriously. -- That fade to black is such a cool atypical Trek ending, but between fake Janeway's mic drop and the Clown slowly disappearing, it's such a great bad-ass Trek Captain moment!

Love this episode and I had a feeling Kat would too. Michael McKeans performance is fantastic, and the ending with Janeway is perfection. I'm happy to see so many positive comments of it. Oh, and Paulas hair looks freaking phenomenal in this episode.

Siva

great episode, very memorable!

Travis Boyle

Really liked this episode. Reminds me of TOS. Planet of the week, evil computer. Minimalist set. My favourite minimalist episode set from TOS was Spectre of the Gun. Micheal McKean is great as usual. Loved him in Spinal Tap and the Christopher Guest movies. Ending was amazing too.

Couple of things, in re before the episode, Voyager will always be my favourite Trek and I am entirely correct about that, I love lots of other crews but Voyager is my true love, so to speak. Michael McKean was in the ill-fated attempt at booting up a US version of The Thick of It, kind of the Glenn Cullen character, give or take even though there's not a 1:1 mapping. I have a wilder link that goes via commedia dell'arte through Studio 60 that I won't bore you with, but Kat represents that one person in that focus group, if you know you know (because you're a massive TV nerd and a big Sorkin fan, as I am).
