My introverted soul did not like that one. Even if I were straight I can’t imagine kissing my girlfriend in front of people like that! But hey you do you, not yucking your yum! however, I’ll also say that this is a precursor to a very toxic relationship with unrealistic standards

I love the song choice when Scott motions to Kip to come down to the ice. The lyrics which I only noticed on my 2nd or 3rd viewing are “Give me your eyes, I need Sunshine” ☀️ which such a cool call back to that conversation that Scott has with Elena in episode 3

I can't get enough of people and when they realize Scott is actually calling Kip down to the ice. I mean, some of us hoped it would happen, and there are obvious signs showing they are leading up to that. However, until he starts standing there breathing hard, and then 100% for sure when he gives that little nod, it's still not a 100% certainty it's actually happening. Then they drag it out for so long. Lord help me. I love your commentary after it finishes. Some people don't really let it all out , but you do, and that's an amazing thing to me. You are so genuine in your feelings, and showing them, it just makes my day. Sure, it makes me want to cry again, but that's fine. That's what this show does. I can not wait to see what you think about the last episode. I personally think it's just as good as this one.

A very deliberate move by Jacob Tierney. He has talked about having to have that song locked in before filming Episode 3 so that Elana could say her lines about sunshine. The song is also the title of the episode.

I did leave a comment back when you watched Episode 2 that you would need tissues for the rest of the show. Episode 5 is my absolute favorite and Ilya breaks my heart each time I watch it. I can't wait for you to see the next episode, it's beautiful and a wonderful way to end the series. Season two starts filming in August!

You totally clocked it straight away about the change in intimacy and I love Jacob for this narrative direction. Its stopped being just about the sex for them, now its about talking and learning to trust each other and being supportive of each other. BTW - I think it stopped being just about the sex for Ilya during the montage timeline in ep 4. It just took them a little time to get to the same place. And they both needed Rose. Important lessons for both of them. Thank you for making my Monday mornings more enjoyable (this drops at 3am in my part of the world). I've made time to watch it before work starts .. lol . So today, my first Teams meeting might be with my camera off... cause my face is totally the same as yours right now! Also trying to figure out how I can take a personal day next week just to binge all your reactions in one hit , just for funzies.. Love watching people fall in love with this show.

Kat — I’ve been waiting for today for weeks, and you didn’t disappoint! Remember I told you on the first or second episode I’d tell you about the CGI and LED wall filming when it came up? So there were two big ones in this episode: the beach sunset (Heated Rivalry was a 50% Canadian government production, so they didn’t even try to go to Florida), and a lot of the kiss-on-the-ice scene. They obviously couldn’t afford to fill an arena with extras, so they took a laser photogrammetry model of the real rink the day they shot there, and imported it into Unreal Engine. So when you’re seeing scenes with the camera pointed down of just the ice (mostly shown as ‘on TV’ with the announcers), it’s probably in the real arena, but if you see the crowd in the background, it’s the LED wall. (Except for the Kip/Elena/Kip’s dad shots — those were in the arena with all the extras they had; then they duplicated those extras to fill the rest of the digital arena.) There are a couple more coming in the final episode, so I’ll tell you next week! More thoughts on other stuff in a separate comment…

I’ve watched sooooo many Episode 5 reactions, you wouldn’t believe me — gay couple reactions! straight dude reactions! gay boy and straight brother reactions! group reactions! hockey podcast reactions! Russian-language reactions! Married lesbian Asian BL-reactor reactions! —and you are the *first* one I’ve seen who noticed that Shane was already getting dressed while texting Ilya that he couldn’t come over. I love that, it’s so perfect… I thought it was funny when you said “you can be bi but also gay” — my husband’s bi, and for the first ten years (I bought him his first legal drink, we’ve been together forever!) I kept apologizing whenever I’d slip and call him ‘gay’ or call us ‘gay’ in his earshot, and eventually he said “it’s fine, I forget sometimes and say I’m gay too” lol Ilya gave his Moscow apartment to Alexei, not his Boston one — he has no reason to go back and Alexei has no reason to come to the US. (Also, Russian law makes it much easier to transfer property between close relatives when another close relative dies than at other times — basically you’re allowed to reassess the family’s property and wealth as a unit with any inheritance and then re-divide up, and he basically acknowledges that with his wording, Можешь забрать мою квартиру. Mozhesh’ zabrat’ moyu kvartiru means ‘you can *take* my apartment.’)
