It's really not surprising that Ian found another way out of the tunnel: the whole reason he went in there was because it was supposed to lead into the tomb, so he found the door he went in specifically to look for.

Mark Ten

William Russel's return playing Ian was in the Guinness Book Of Records as the longest gap for a character to reappear played by the same actor, 57 years/4 months

Aaron Funnell

Feels like months since the last episode. 😉

In A Good Man Goes To War, Amy killed Madame Kovarian with a deadly eyepatch. "You know where The Doctor is? NOT here!" The 'light' music played with the death of Ixta was more in mockery - well, that sorta happened - of a self-aggrandizing villain who pretty much got what he deserved. Rather like when you live by the sword, so you die by the sword. Just desserts! What are more out of place are the crew together laughing and joking at the end of many Star Trek TOS stories, when there has been multiple tragedies and they all end up seemingly having a pretty jolly time at the closing credits! The more realistic tone is set at the close of The City on the Edge of Forever with the close up of a deeply saddened Kirk saying "Let's get outta here!"

So you have now seen your first true historical with no aliens or other sci-fi (apart from the TARDIS at the very end), it just shows that if the story (and performances) are good it still works

it is interesting how, in the begining of the story, we all assumed Ian would have to fake being a warrier, because he is an educated man with a calm personality and to modern viewers that basically mean a wimp. What we forgot is that the show is from 1963, and a man his age would probably be a WW2 veteran. it's funny how times change.
