I’d managed to forget Wednesday was Red Dwarf day, trying to stave off a migraine so this has made my day

Bruce Bromley

That opening was only 'green pepper' spicy. I was hoping for 'California Reaper' hot. You've had to read that idiocy far too often. Also, Kat, Cheetos with chopsticks? Brilliant!! I only wish I knew how to use them. 😁

Mark Ten

Oh great... Now I think there's a murderer in my house! Thanks guys for triggering me.

Data Cable

"I can't wear these! They look like Frankenstein's hand-me-downs!" Of course you can, Cat. Frankenstein was your ancestor.

Josef Schiltz

I would think that most Dwarfers would know the lines by now. And there are subtitles on the screen, so I don't really see what so much of the hubbub is about. I don't know the show except vicariously from an old friend, but I'm enjoying it. I'm used to onscreen subtitles because they were on in my house for years and glancing down isn't a problem. Maybe because my own art form was integrated text and illustration for many years and it doesn't cause an issue.

Jacob Shepley

This was my first episode of Red Dwarf. My brother showed it to me when I was a kid. Was hooked ever since

Salix

Omg how have i never noticed that👏

Blower

Of course I trust you Gals :) - i know what bot's and algorithm's are like. I've got used to turning the volume up and having you screaming at me so I can hear the show dialogue lol :D...it's worth it, as your reactions to Red Dwarf are brilliant! and I love you guys...or should i say Gals :)

Stephen Wray

I believe the head gunge was custard and strawberry jam

Raven Stromdans

Nearly 30 freakin' years and I never picked up on that. To be fair, after a while the lore behind the Felis Sapien race is largely forgotten by the show, much less the viewer, but DAMN, I feel dense for not catching that.

Raven Stromdans

New favorite day of the week, established! And at least with this day, every other week is a day off for me that I can enjoy the show/reaction in leisure, rather than between 12 hour work shifts.

Brodie Vickers

Danny John Jules, definitely a pro at the comedy falls! I'm going to be a pain in the butt by asking.. are we getting another Series Doc soon? Those are always fun and interesting to watch with you.

Jasper de Vries

Robert Llewellyn really sold "my intelligence circuit has melted".

Wilss

When do we get the Series 2 longer making of documentary? Just wondering :)

Time Lord

We've been a little behind on watching them because of schedule stuff with myself and Paula. We've gotta play a little catch up that we'll hopefully have some time for today when we sit to record :)

I don't really understand the issue people have with their "I can't hear the show" comments. Presumably if you're watching these reactions you've seen the show before, and even if you haven't it's not like it isn't readily available on streaming.

Firefly24601

Wed Dwarf Wednesday!!! 🎉 No? Too much?

Wade Wallenstein

Another episode with a great idea in the Justice field. Also, your reaction to the Space Mumps was the best! I laughed hard for a full minute.

paul

It is impressive how jam packed and unpredictable the episodes are. Poor Rimmer carrying all that guilt in his unconscious. At least Kryten's mercilessly humiliating defence got him off his 9000 year sentence.

paul

By the way, I think it was a worthwhile explanation about the audio levels. I'm guessing most viewers aren't youtubers or content creators of any kind, they're probably just ordinary people doing traditional jobs, so they might not have the faintest idea about all the tricks needed to outwit bots and the algorithm, and therefore they just jump to the wrong conclusion that the audio is mixed badly.

Malcolm Wolf

Quite a lot of effort has been put into making sure the subtitles are available as well.

MCT

I think they mentioned Piccalilli being a key ingredient as well, a substance I've always found distressing enough to look at that I wouldn't dare to try it. :D

MCT

If I remember right, the weird look of the courtroom is because by that point of the filming (I think this was originally supposed to be episode 6 until it was swapped with Meltdown) they'd pretty much exhausted their budget so they just had to use whatever they could.

Susan K Dailey Photography

I think the fact it's impossible to guess where a Red Dwarf episode is headed is one of its biggest selling points. All media these days is full of tropes and almost all of it is very formulaic, but I feel like Red Dwarf is quick-witted enough to be simultaneously full of tropes while also turning other tropes on their head so you can't guess what's actually going to happen. It makes the show such a crazy ride and I love it.

Mab7373822

This is one of my favourite episodes. It's not nessecarily the funniest, but it has an amazing concept, amazing pacing, and is absolutely vital for Rimmer. We know the Captain of Red Dwarf thought Rimmer was inept and insane, from when Rimmer listened to his confidential logs back in season one. We also know that on a personal level, the senior officers couldn't stand Rimmer, as per Todhunter's insulting of him in the pilot, and Hollister insulting him in Stasis Leak. Why on earth would they assign the second-lowest ranked worker on the ship, of over a thousand people, the task of repairing their equivalent of a Warp Core? It doesn't add up at all. Was it management incompetence? Was it a conspiracy to destroy the ship? Was it simply the case that duty rosters got mixed up? Kryten is right. Rimmer should never and would never have been trusted to carry out such a dangerous and delicate repair. He was either assigned the duty by accident - with no safeguards - or someone on board wanted the crew dead, and Rimmer provided the perfect scapegoat. It's interesting that back in ME Squared, we saw a Flashback to Captain Hollister and the senior officers chewing Rimmer out for "shoddy work on the drive plate". In retrospect, it looked far far to much as them quickly and publicly assigning blame, rather than actually trying to undo what had gone wrong. Whatever the circumstances, all was not right aboard Red Dwarf before the accident. Rimmer didn't deserve blame.

paul

Yeah and it had never really occurred to me before how unpredictable the plots are, that's one of the interesting things about these reactions. I rewatched them so much on video and then again on dvd in my 20s that I just can't remember the first time. The plots from series 1-6 are almost like beatles songs or something to me in the sense that it just feels like they've always existed!

paul

Nice analysis of the Rimmer accidentally killing the crew situation. I've never really understood how the second lowest ranked person on the ship (I think that's right) seems to be mainly in charge of fixing vending machines yet is somehow also entrusted with a much more serious task that can endanger the whole crew if cocked up. I've always found it kinda sad that he's obviously haunted by this mistake he made that seems to have been well above his pay grade. I feel like the moral of the story here is: don't take your job too seriously if you're basically on the bottom rung of the ladder!

Jade Ellis

You think you had it bad with Lister's head bursting. I was eating spaghetti Bolognese during this reaction.

Rob G

Seeing the Gals get this much feed back to Red Dwarf must be a little bit overwhelming to them.

Sebastian Bodine

One of my favorite episodes and even I was also impressed by Cat's suit in this episode. Too many great jokes in this one for you to react to them all! This show is such a trailblazer for the science fiction comedy genre!

Josef Schiltz

Maybe the ship was bored and decided to manufacture an emergency to relieve the monotony? - Taking a leaf from Douglas Adams.

Katrine Myra

I keep thinking the same thing. The episodes are available for streaming, and mind you, if you're interested enough to watch reactions, you probably own most or not all of these episodes anyway. If you want to watch the episode... just watch the episode. Or even sync the reaction to your own media.

Jasper de Vries

"someone on board wanted the crew dead, and Rimmer provided the perfect scapegoat". The crew numbered 1169 people according to the Justice computer, Rimmer killing himself wasn't murder and Lister survived. That would mean that, at 8 years per person, Rimmer should have served 9336 years. Yet he was "only" sentenced to 9328 years. Almost as if the computer knew someone else had gotten away...

Stephen Wray

McIntyre? He committed suicide in the first episode and first hologram we saw

pbaker

I was a fan at this point in 1991 but I only went bananas and joined the fan club after series 5 in 1992. This is a great episode and we had an assembly at school about it because the teachers were fans too. Robert Llewelyn plays Kryten and he is also a writer who praises the genius of Grant Naylor at every opportunity. You’ll see in one of the making ofs he makes the point that Red Dwarf scripts have zero cliche.

Jasper de Vries

Of course not, it is Grandson of Cliché at best.

tal goren

i used to have a problem with the volume in reactions, but then i found out that using a sound equalizer can help a lot. realtek in particular has an option that reduce the diffrence between the highest and lowest sounds and basically solve the problem,

Josef Schiltz

". . or someone on board wanted the crew dead, and Rimmer provided the perfect scapegoat." Holly: "I have concerns regarding the mission, Dave!"

Rob G

So basic, equalizer, Realtek in particular, has options to reduce many things, it all solves. Dude get out this is not a solution.

Daryl Hudson

Cat looks like prince from purple rain in the purple outfit

Wagoo

You actually want a compressor for that, not an EQ. Download the video, load it in VLC, enable the built in compressor effect and twiddle with it. Or just run the source video in sync with the reaction if needed

Chris K

I know it's WAAAAY too late to complain about this, but where the heck did you get these awful subtitles?
