Holy Dalek!! Took me a sec to see that you were IN THE SAME ROOM! No better occasion for it. Now on to watch your reaction. 😁😱

Mike

So exciting! I'm only just getting over watching the new episode and now I get to watch it again with you lovely ladies. :D

Beyond Hope

You are heading down a really crazy and fruity rabbit hole if you start watching Miriam Margolyes. ESPECIALLY her appearances on the Graham Norton show. She is a British icon.

BrightHeart

Yeah the captions were right it’s bin night not midnight. Essentially the night before bin men (garbage men) come to collect the bins. So you put the bins out to be collected.

Time Lord

When I watched it again with my partner last night I was like, "OH NO I WAS WRONG IT'S BIN NIGHT." 😂 -Kat

Firefly24601

Near the end, Kat noticed the Cyberdog store. Cyberdog is a rave/fetishware store.

Bill

I only cried a bunch of times.

BrightHeart

fun fact, the last in-person reaction wasS5e1 aka Matt Smiths first episode aka the 5th ever post on the patreon.

Time Lord

Right at the start of 2020 when we said, "Hey! Look at us and our new channel! Woo- Wait, what." 😂

Dan Williams

I've watched it a half dozen times now, it's so good.

Mark Ten

Miriam Margolyes was also Professor Sprout in Harry Potter. Do you think it was irresponsible of the Doctor to leave Donna so much money? 166 million Pounds?!? I could see him set her up like he did with Rory & Amy with a house & a dream car but that much is ridiculous. Would they have been the same people if Donna had kept the money as the Doctor intended? I always thought it was a brilliant gesture because Donna's father lent the Doctor the Pound. But that amount could have been a cruel gift.

Mark Ten

Knocked out by the Intro, the Tardis dancing, skipping through the time vortex?!? Didnt really regain consciousness anyplace else. Everything I was hoping for this last dry year.

Krissie

i don't think the part on the sofa where she tells the Doctor off about pronouns was necessary

Bruce Bromley

I'll always remember her as Lady Whiteadder in Blackadder II.

First Mystery

I thought so too on the first watch but rewatching it I feel now that it makes sense that Rose would pick up on something like that

First Mystery

Love the theory that the Tardis included the coffee machine so that Donna would spill it and take them on one more adventure

Mark Ten

No sense making the console coffee proof if its not Donna proof!

Mark Ten

First time I saw it I thought it was going to be a Cyberman story

Paul Flux

The Wrarth Warriors aren't really Classic Who as such. Like Beep the Meep they were created by Patt Mills and Dave Gibbons for the 1980s comic book. They've done a really great job of replicating the comic book designs of both the aliens and Meep's spaceship. I really like the mix of practical effects and CGI they used. Mills and Gibbons are really impressed too. It's worth taking a look at Patt Mills's Twitter/X account as he's sharing a few reminiscences about their time writing Doctor Who comics. And complaining about how mean comics publishers are to their writers compared to BBC/Bad Wolf and Big Finish!

Geraint Harrison

This episode I was in heaven. The way 14 is portrayed, it’s just beautiful, it’s 10’s face with his mannerisms but the experience and stability of all the previous doctors. David is one of the best actors I know, all the subtleties, just perfect. The only issue I have is how damn fast that pavement fixed itself lol

Paul Flux

Thanks for the reminder @BrightHeart! I need to put mine out tonight...

Thomas P Vickery

If you get a chance watch the two of them in Much Ado About Nothing; both seperatly and together they knock it out of the park.

Tyler Williams

I had basically the exact reaction you both did. Loved it all except that last 'let it go' line, which, no matter what way you try and interpret it doesn't work. It was very RTD - almost a perfect landing then just one step too far. That being said, something as big as DW loudly and proudly kicking off a new era with a positive trans storyline right at the centre? I'll happily take some clunky dialogue in exchange for that 😊

Paul Flux

Just FYI her surname is pronounced Margo-lees

Chris Neumann

So wild to see you both in the same room again!

Jon Hackett

That the 4th Doctor also put in once...

Travis Boyle

Paula "We are working on Steven Universe, then we are watching beeep." LOL.

Wade Wallenstein

This was a beautiful reaction! This is the 2nd time I watched the episode and caught more this time around. I do agree that the lines at the end did feel forced and I know certain Content Creators who will latch onto that and nothing else. They'll be shouting into their own echo chambers though ;)

I think that the problem that I am seeing at the moment is that the cause and effect 'air' is being so filled with fix-it-all energies that Doctor Who is losing it's distinctivity from the Marvel Universe, the latter being all very well in it's place. Doctor Who has always dwelled withing the realm of a Human-like man who uses super sciences, wit and his vast experience and intelligence to get out of scrapes, with the super science aspect being handled by the TARDIS, although the TARDIS being sentient and erratic as we knew, and there was always an air of mystery about both the Doctor and his wondrous machine. With the events of this episode in mind, I recall not really being a fan of the meta-crisis and the Doctor-Donna and 'solutions' being obtained by the sudden endowment of superpowers. The sonic screwdriver is quite near enough to a superpower, although it is a device and a device that is a get out of trouble one for the writers. As it was with K9. I can sympathize with the evolution of the screwdriver to include the abilities of it in this episode. After all, why wouldn't a scientist, who gets into all the mischief that the Doctor has, not avail himself with the add-on tech of a shield to protect the vulnerable - including himself - and a holographic tech screen so that he can work things out on the hop. Useful! But when all the superpowers business starts flitting about, we may as well be in MCU and I have to ask myself "Would Robert Holmes have written this?, even Terry Nation, who was fond of his tropes." In 1962, the year before Doctor Who burst onto our screens, in his book “Profiles of the Future: An Inquiry into the Limits of the Possible”, - a handy copy of which in secreted in my library - Arthur C. Clarke formulated his Three Laws, the third law is the best-known, being “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”, which is quoted by the Doctor on one occasion - perhaps more. I've always felt that the character of the Doctor, despite his abilities and his air of mystery, was nearer to Quatermass, and the worlds of SF, than Doctor Strange. The distinctions have, to all practicalities of storytelling, well and truly blurred so that the casual viewer, even the longstanding viewer, can be hard put to tell the difference.

Nicole Mazza

Yep, I love that it was a 'Stones of Blood' call-back!

Nicole Mazza

The 'male presenting' dig (which also insults transmasc peeps, btw) and the muddy nonbinary resolution just left me cold (and I'm enby, myself). I think of the surface, it was good trans rep, but it was not only the bare minimum, but also clunky and awkward and I really thought RTD could do better in that realm. Also, the undo-switch at the end, with all the roads and fire clearing up with the mere flip of a switch, was eye-roll-y, but also par for the course with RTD stories, especially his botched endings. Overall, I was happy to see Beep the Meep and the Wrarth Warriors FINALLY brought to life (I loooved the comic back in the day), happy to see Catherine and David together again, happy to see Sylvia having such growth, happy to see Shaun being awesome, happy to meet Rose (I love Yasmin in 'Heartstopper'), happy to have the AMAZING RACHEL TALALAY directing again, etc., but overall the story itself left me more frustrated and annoyed than anything. (Though, to be fair, RTD Who has always pushed many of my 'Nope Buttons', but I was hoping he'd perhaps grown a bit after all this time. Oh well.) Probably 2/10 for me. Watchable, but not Doctor Who 'for me'. (Off to rewatch either 'Day of the Doctor' or 'Remembrance of the Daleks' as Who Anniversary palate cleansers)

hrcaffee

Bleep the Paula - new channel villain that makes Kat do extra editing work

Matt

So good to see you two sitting together.

Paul Flux

Why would you expect the Doctor to be 'responsible'?🤔 I mean, you have seen the show before, right? 😉 One of the reasons I love this show is that the Doctor is a very flawed hero. Who definitely needs a human companion to keep them on the straight and narrow!

Gryph

I think it would have worked better if they had explained that having it split between the two of them, gave them the clarity to figure out how to do that.

Jack Bonner

I miss seeing you guys reacting in the same room. This is what I've been waiting years for. It's the perfect combination with this nostalgia trip of an episode. I so miss The DoctorDonna, even despite how many times I've re-watched it all, it's so nice finally having it all return completely fresh. Absolutely fantastic story. Completely agree with the PC stuff feeling a little forced. I feel like it was well interwoven into the story and didn't feel too forced, but I feel like the male dig; something along the lines of 'what you men will never understand' was a little unessessary. But other than that little gripe, I absolutely loved all of it. Although I think the PC stuff felt a little forced, and I would prefer it if that line wasn't in there, it wasn't to the extent that it ruined the episode for me. So yeah, overall, I really miss this, seeing you guys together, seeing The Doctor and Donna together and it's great to see everything back again! 💙

Mark Ten

You may be right, but the Doctor has long experience with rich people being evil. Offhand I cant think of any rich person who did not disappoint or betray the Doctor**. He gave Amy & Rory a house & a car, but they still worked for a living. And the Doctor's often stated admiration for humanity was tied to accomplishing things through adversity and he was removing that from Donna (at least he thought so). And Triple Rollover is just too excessive! ** Dont compile a list of Saintly rich people the Doctor has met. Im sure there are some (probably in Classic)...

Katrine Myra

Whew! Late to the party, but I'm so glad I watched this, especially alongside two people who know and love both DW and the characters so well. Really heightens the experience and helps give valuable context for a somewhat casual fan like myself. As someone who was 'meh' on Ten and stopped watching after a few episodes of his tenure, I was expecting to dislike David Tennant as Crowley... but instead, his work in Good Omens made me realize what an amazing actor he is. And seeing him as The Doctor now...! It really, really hits different. I dunno if it's that he's changed, or that it's a somewhat different character, but this? This, I love. I pretty much agree on the representation and what they were (probably) trying to do versus how it came across. Like you, I love how Rose fits into it all, but am equally baffled by the "men don't understand how to let it go" thing. As a writer, the resolution of the episode in general feels a bit "we don't know how to resolve these plot points, so we've just do this". Oh, and the coffee spill made me laugh out loud. I was sure it was a double bluff, as in, they were setting up that she'd spill it, but then she wouldn't do it. But then she did, anyway? Triple bluff? :D

Josef Schiltz

She wasn't to know that The Doctor has a far broader schema as to how the universe works as opposed to just how cultures on Earth carry on, so her reaction is habitual according to her experience of how people around her generally react to her. If the bullies earlier on are her experience then it can be hardly surprising she reacts the way she does. Sharper, rather than calmer advisement.
