Regarding the TNG finale. I don't care if you split it into multiple reaction videos, but the important thing is that you watch them as one long episode, because that's how it was designed to be seen. In the 2 part version of the finale, I believe there is one scene that was edited out to fit in the extra intro for part 2. Obviously when seen as a two hour episode, they only played the show intro once.

John Wayne

Are you watching Battlestar Galactica after you finish this show?

Alexander Caldwell

How does Paula not know about Hot Dog on a Stick??? I mean, I never ate there, but my local malls in California ALWAYS had one when I was a kid. They're a damn American institution! Nothing more funny than watching those girls in those silly hats making lemonade!

Alexander Caldwell

I'd like to say that I also watched this episode before any of the...related episodes on DS9, and I also did not have much trouble understanding what the Maquis were (other than having to look up the historical reference for the word "Maquis"). TNG set up the Demilitarized Zone and the tensions on the Cardassian border pretty well earlier in the season (though, of course, the episodes they feature in on DS9 delve into them more deeply than what we see here). I also followed the sci-fi trades pretty closely back in the 90s, such as Starlog and the like, and was aware that they were being set up as a major plot device for Star Trek: Voyager. Overall, I think the Maquis were one of the more innovative framing devices used in all of Star Trek; something perhaps more relevant now than ever.

Thankfully this was the penultimate episode instead of one of the previous clunky ones. Getting your tear ducts warmed up for the finale. Being the digital hoarder that I am, I have saved every reaction. It was September 13th, 2019 for the beginning of this journey with the posting of part one of "Encounter at Farpoint" on FT's Patreon. It's been a great Trek (sorry, had to) with you two Gals.

There a clip from a Star Trek convention where Brent Spiner & Michael Dorn tell a story about them torturing Patrick while filming the bar scene in this episode, recommend you watch it as it’s hilarious 🤣

If Kat's short character had a secret identity, she would be Helen Wheels, a boisterous roller-derby queen. And nobody would ever put it together.

Nolan

Memetic is an actual word. It's where we get the word "meme' from. It's about changing appearance and shape, adapting to circumstance. Much like meme's adapt to social trends.

Chris Neumann

I don't know if I've ever actually seen this episode all the way through before. It's not bad, but it feels so much like a DS9 episode. Which isn't me pitching DS9, just more an observation on how weird it is that the penultimate episode of a show feels like another show. Though I suppose it's also putting out the idea that the universe will keep going on without our characters, and not everyone on the crew has the same path.

Kat's watching Rebels? Darn, I wish that was part of the Gallifrey Gals reactions, I really like that show.

Nolan

Don't forget, this episode was directed by Patrick Stewart, Captain Picard himself.

"Lt Alysha. Please report to Medical. Your cat has been sick in the turbolift . . . . . Again!" "Science Officer Deming. Would you please remove your kitten from Jeffries Tube 7? He's been making unauthorized adjustments to the pet food dispenser program!" "Science Officer Deming? Please respond. Did you train your kitten in site-to-site transporter techniques? He has been seen in several different locations all over the ship within the last five minutes!" "Lt Alysha. Your cat is riding the turbolift and won't let anyone else in!"

Dan Williams

Along the lines of Kat's tryptaphobia, I have issues with stripes.... But they can cause severe pain and spasms....

Josef Schiltz

Yes. Stripes give me difficulty. When I was searching for a house, I avoided exposed beams like the plague. i would have had to paint them the same colour as the walls. Even the estate agents photos gave me the heebie jeebies. It would be nightmarish to be surrounded by them. My cousin's wife has trypophobia.

Josef Schiltz

"Lt Alysha! Please could you remove your cat from the Bridge? He's been doing his 'OMG Cat' impression at the viewscreen again and he's irritating Lt Worf!"

Mark Chrisco

For many years I thought Ro was marked a traitor in retaliation for the actress not accepting the role created for her on DS9. In actuality they were still hoping to cast her in their upcoming Voyager series, putting her in prime position as a Maquis.

Josef Schiltz

Yes, I used to pick up Starlog from a tiny SF bookshop in Ipswich when I was at college in the late 70s. I lost touch with the magazine after I left. That and Future - Life. Really good magazines. Starburst as well. With those I could tell how SF fandom was spreading and how new shows were coming.

Locoturbo

Couple things always bugged me, largely with the last scene with Picard and Ro. First, isn't Picard kind of a 'celebrity' at this point? Yet she meets with him publicly. Second - she wanted to back out gracefully, but is essentially told that will end her career. What? That seems harsh even for Starfleet (which we have been laughingly told "is not a military organization".) And he tells this to someone whose loyalties are now in question. Basically 95% pushed her into becoming Maquis. Reminds me of some old meme about Star Trek policy, could have been in Mad Magazine or similar but it said "One mistake and you are through." Sigh. I wonder what Michelle Forbes thought of this episode.
