Who's ready for some uncanny body horror!? We sure as hell weren't. LET'S GO.

RIP to Bernard Cribbins. We didn't realize at the time of recording that this was his final scene he shot before passing away. The biggest amount of love for the Granddad of all of us Whovians.

You got me. When you said you couldnt stand to be in the same room together I nearly choked on my soda. Gullible much?

Time Lord

Hey y'all! To our Geronimo and Red Alert tiers, I promise we have the Unleashed reaction for this episode! We filmed it a separate day so Paula could get a little extra rest. Promise to have it up by end of the week/weekend! - Kat

Paul Flux

I don't know whether it means anything to Kat and Paula, but when the Doctor and Donna first get aboard the hover kart, there's a reference to the 1960s British children's sci-fi show Thunderbirds. "Your car, milady!", "Thank you Parker."

Christopher Jones

Not that you guys are lacking for ways to fill your free time, but you *are* aware that there is a Doctor Who roleplaying game..?

Mark Ten

Shame Paula! Dont you remember watching Mavity Falls? Dont you recall in World Enough & Time when the 12th Doctor said "It's all about mavity. Mavity slows down time. The closer you are to the source of mavity, the slower time will move"? Really, its been there all the time. This episode reminded me of both Midnight & The Doctor's Wife (where Amy & Rory are running through the corridors of the Tardis). In fact, I was positive thats what was going on here - The Doctor & Donna were actually in the Tardis being chased by the tortured soul of the Tardis. IDK, I still think it makes sense. How did the group react to the moment when the Doctor said that Newton was hot and then said 'Oh, am I that kind of person now?' and Donna said that she always thought...?

Bret Hart

A great episode, a wtf is going on primer for The Giggle. Excellent performances too, Tennant brought some real mavitas in this one.

Nicole Mazza

Honestly, RTD did more for the Timeless Child and the Flux in a few sentences than Chibnall did, imo. Like, at least we got to see some emotional ramifications from it via the Doctor. I love Jodie, but her Doctor didn't seem to even acknowledge that she destroyed a chunk of the universe. In fact, THE SHOW ITSELF didn't seem to acknowledge it and just moved on like nothing happened, leaving many of us confused about the state of the universe at the end of things. I'm honestly not a huge fan of either Chibnall OR RTD, but at least RTD helped those two plots become a bit more realized and grounded in this story (whether I liked them as a plot points in the first place or not). 🤷

Nicole Mazza

Also, I'm definitely one of the big Clara fans of the audience (and a MASSIVE Moffat stan), and so I loved how they weaved in a bit of her theme into the soundtrack at the end when Donna was asking what had happened to him since they last saw one another and he replied 'a lot'. OH MY HEART. 😭😭

Nicole Mazza

Oh, and while I think it was a great episode, I didn't think it was an ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL episode. Definitely not the multi-Doctor (or even multi-companion) story I wanted, for example. A little disappointed these specials seem to be more about celebrating RTD-Who than the history of the show. Again, not that the stories aren't good and that David and Catherine aren't good (I especially like the differences between 14 and 10), but as a very longtime fan of both Classic and Modern Who, I wanted more from the anniversary stories personally. Oh well.

Geraint Harrison

You mention a tie in, and I won't spoil anything, all I'm going to say is there has been an obvious pattern in these last two episodes involving a singular person being or thinking/feeling more than one thing. RTD is leaving his little story crumbs like he used to and I'm gobbling them up, I love it.

Eric

Yes, I definitely WOULD be interested in merch!

Robert Elessar

Was the salt/superstition invoked at the edge of the universe what allowed (or "invited") the Toymaker to return?

Josef Schiltz

Tell me, is it my imagination or has our dear friend's TARDIS suddenly developed a bit of a really aggressive attitude to the Universe? Because she seems really pissed off! - charging into places like a bull in a china shop, leaving holes in walls and breathing fire. She's literally turning into a Laplace's Demon!

Jack Bonner

I see what you mean about the lighting on David's face. when they presumably composited his face between his legs. Although I didn't notice it at first, thinking back to it, I do see what you mean there Paula. I think because I've worked in VFX for my own independent film projects in After Effects, and because I take an interest in it, I just tend to spot how things are probably done, because I've made my own VFX and have watched a good handful of behind the scenes. Like the hallway obviously being a greenscreen. I again personally didn't notice anything off about it, probably because it was good enough for me to kind of look past, but I'm sure if I went in with more of an analytical mind, I'd spot those subtle issues with the depth of field, because tbf, it can be a tricky thing to get right. You've got to match the lens' focal length, the exposure, the lighting, the temperature, the depth of field. There's so much to take into account, and of course not every VFX editor/designer is necessarily going to get it all bang on. But yeah that's the thing, when you've worked in it before, you just tend to spot everything don't you? 😂 But yeah, that moment with David getting angry having opened up about something he wouldn't have normally opened up about, after being tricked by fake Donna really cut me deep, that's the performance from Tennant that I miss so much. It gets me right in the heart, because I can just feel it all, that's what I think makes him such an insanely talented actor. I love David's take on the timeless child in this, seeing that emotion come through in the same way that it did with The Time War back when he first played the doctor. That's what confirms for me how much I just no longer care about that tweak in the show's lore, because I was originally really pissed off about it, but now I just don't care and I actually love it after seeing you guys react to it. It's an incredibly interesting storyline, and there is so much more that can be explored with it, I just love it now. I really did think this episode had everything I could ever want out of a Doctor Who episode, it had the intriguing mysterious element with the whole edge of the universe things, which I just found so interesting, (nothingness just fascinates me tbh), you had the creepy uncanny warped versions of Donna and The Doctor, you had the brilliant and hilarious lines from Donna and just both of them really, and you had those powerful heart breaking moments with the doctor and all the loss he experienced over the time since being separated from Donna. Then seeing Bernard at the end just made it all the more special. That hit me like a train when I heard of his passing. He was such a sweet lovely man and was a grandad to all of us. Was so keen for you guys to react to this episode, I couldn't wait to see what was about to be unleashed upon you. What an absolute gem of an episode to say the very least. Thanks again guys for the reaction! 💙

Josef Schiltz

Just wondering if you two have ever seen Catherine and David as Benedick and Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing. Both are incredible! Bernard Cribbins was such a special part of our generation's lives in the 60s and 70s and it is wonderful that he charmed so many in his later years. I first saw him reading stories on the BBC children's programme Jackanory. He was in 114 episodes, more than any other storyteller, from 1966 onwards. This programme had various actors just sit down and read to the audience of small children and this was at about 4.30 in the afternoon. Desperately saddened that he is gone.

Daniel French

I loved this reaction gals! To me this felt like just watching a Dr Who episode from Series 4. I'll be honest, I didn't like the timeless child storyline under Chibnall's run, but I've found it instantly more interesting under RTD. I loved Jodie and she's a brilliant actress, like Jenna, but like Jenna, the writing was not good a lot of the time, in my opinion. It's interesting you mentioned Midnight Kat, because I saw a comment from someone suggesting the creatures in Wild Blue Yonder could a more advanced version of the species from Midnight? But like I said, great reaction!!

Aidan

Conversely, I don’t think you can berate people for being vocal in their dislike of certain things Chibnall did during his time on the show, and then go on to to be vocal for five minutes about your dislike of certain things Moffat did with the show. You’ve complained plenty over the course of your reactions about Clara and her arc, which is no different from people complaining about the Timeless Child. I should add, neither of which should be retconned out in my opinion.

Time Lord

I think the problem is is that there were a LOT of remarkably cruel comments we had come in when we stated we liked things in Chibnall's era, and when we stated there were things we didn't like about Moffat's era. We got *berated* by people during Moffat's era and it was a lot to deal with. Similar people came back during the Chibnall era to do the same thing. So, yes, I will admit that I (Kat) definitely get quite spicy with my opinions and talked about Moffat to reference what we went through around that time (and just what I've seen in my personal life as well among the fan base). We've now gone as far as to try and not talk about Moffat at this point because of how people reacted. We also go on to say though that there is nothing wrong with not liking something someone else does like. It's the willingness to understand there's more than one opinion. If people didn't like Chibnall's era, then no worries! But to berate someone for enjoying it or going on to say over and over how Doctor Who is dead and ruined, or to hope that RTD was gonna walk all over and disregard it, is a bit ridiculous in my eyes. And please know I'm not referring to you in this matter, just an overall of what we've seen presented to us.

hrcaffee

"Fenslaw" and "Calis"...... "when the walls changed"!!! 🤣 (I feel like such a cheeky scamp right now, I swear I just thought of this while watching your reaction when "Calis" hit) 😎😋

Wade Wallenstein

You mention that you don't like how Clara's story as "The Impossible Girl" was written but what in her overall story didn't you like? Also, how did her story retcon the show? I'm not sure which reactions to check out for this so a summary would be appreciated. In my opinion, The "Timeless Child" story did seem to retcon a lot more of The Doctor's history then Clara ever did. She was never concerned with who The Doctor actually was, she just wanted to save him.

Hugo Fitzpatrick

Tennant's performance of The Flux lines solidifies both plot lines of the timeless child for me. The pain, the grief, and the holding back. So much more than what Jodie was given. She was sat in a prison for a few years slowly rebuilding, but not allowed emote it. She planned her escape when she had some normality back, and then kept running. Running to more turmoil in the Flux and The Master's twisted up yours... RTD took the ball and gave it "mavity" in such small moments. Pitch perfect Who. Love it.

Curtis Murphy

Tiny nitpick, but I would've liked a comment or scene in the episode commenting on Donna's reasons for thinking Mrs Bean is funny. Just as a funny "THAT'S why you think the name is funny" kind of thing.

Josef Schiltz

I get saddened and depressed when people go about fan discourse by constantly berating and nagging and tearing things and people to shreds. The meanness takes all the joy out of it and makes everything hard going! Doctor Who is, and always has been, a mutable art form and not immovably engraved within stone tablets! It's very flexibility gives it so much affordance because time can be rewritten. There's enough stress in the world as it is and none of us need any more of it. Take care, let's just all have some degree of sanity and, above all, just be kind.

Josef Schiltz

When Kathy said "There's coffee in that nebula".❣️

Josef Schiltz

Fellow travellers of the TARDISal kind need to retain a vital two word mantra! "Imperfectitude expected!" It pretty much covers everything . . . . . except . . . what's this here?

Josef Schiltz

With you on that! Amy a close second and both invented by Steven Moffat. I really chime with the way his brain functions . . . and Amy and Clara.

tal goren

it wasn't Clara's theme, it was "last Christmas" theme, which was also used for Clara death scene in "face the raven". / end nitpick mode.

tal goren

When the Doctor took the wrong Donna into the Tardis and the real one was about to explode, I honestly though that the Toymaker would have popped out of nowhere to take Donna back to earth as part of some mind game with the Doctor. since that didn't happen I really don't understand why this is part of the anniversary specials. The only explanation I can think of is that RTD wrote the episode for the middle of the series and then realized he needed the talent of David and Catharine to make it work. Anyway, I really enjoyed this episode. the only thing that bothered me is that the not-things plan would have never worked because the Tardis can see in 4 dimensions. no matter how convincing they would be in 3D, they would always be the people who hadn't fought the Meep the day before.

James Evans

I completely agree with you about the Timeless Child. The Doctor being an adopted foundling just fits with the Doctor’s character, with them having felt out of place on Gallifrey and struggled with a sense of belonging amongst the Gallifreyans, it just works so perfectly. Not knowing where the Doctor came from and who their race and biological parents are just makes the question the title of the show asks so beautifully impactful and even more truthful. As an adoptee myself and for adoptees in general the question of “Who Am I” is really connected with being adopted, so it just works.

Alisa Loudner

Multiple things. I think Donna does remember what the Doctor went through the last 15 years but instead of opening the conversation, she wanted him to open up. For those that gripe at the girls for having issues with Moffat, you need to realize that just because they have issues doesn't mean they gave up on the show like Chibnall haters did. As was said in the video, all show runners and writers are going to have ups and downs. Moffat was the runner during 2 of objectively the best episodes, Vincent and The Doctor and Heaven Sent. The 2nd was actually written by Moffat so while they can have issues with him overall they recognize his talent. Do Chibnall haters do the same? I've never been a fan of the Rose/Doctor romance but I know some like it. I much prefer Donna, Amy/Rory, Bill, The Fam and even Clara (mostly with Capaldi). That's what's great about a show that's been around 60 years, there's something for almost everyone.

Bill

"The guy who discovered gravity." Uhm aktualy Paula... I think you mean MAVITY. Guh. 🤣🤣 💗💗

Bill

It's interesting (to me). I found this episode's "monsters" and effects more funny than scary. Maybe it's just background. I love horror and have been big into it for 30+ years. Then again, people growing bigger limbs or bending/stretching/reshaping was common in so much media back in the 80's that this wasn't even unsettling. Now, the concept of nothing. Utterly nothing. Not just a void, but not even the void. THAT makes my brain itch. Regardless, excellent (mostly) bottle episode with just the two of them.

Bill

I cried when we saw Wylf. Bernard was a freaking legend.

Bill

I said it on Bluski and Twitter, I absolutely feel that David Tennant is one of the greatest actors of our time.

Nicole Mazza

Tal -- You're right. I was pretty sleepy when I wrote that comment.

Aidan

Doctor Who definitely has one of the worst fandoms out there, I guess because it’s periodically changed so drastically, so often, and every iteration has fans for whom it’s the definitive era. I think you guys, and reaction channels, get it worse than most. As much as people enjoy watching others reacting to shows they like, what they really want is to watch people fall in love with exactly what they love about the shows, and it can be frustrating when that doesn’t happen. It shouldn’t be, but it is. And I guess for some people that’s made worse when you go on to enjoy a part of the show they don’t. I think everyone just likes to see their opinions validated.

Nicole Mazza

David is definitely MY all-time fave actor! <3 (Seriously, I've pretty much watched everything he's committed to film. Though it's funny, because I've been called 'not a real fan' with him by some, because he doesn't play my 'fave Doctor'. To his credit, I will say, atm, I like 14 MUCH more than 10, and 10 is probably in my top 5 or 6, just because I like David so much. But I'm way more keen on Doctors like Seven, Twelve, Two, and even Eleven, personally. I mostly like the IDEA of Ten, but not the writing for him.)

Josef Schiltz

Mister Sandman. Bring me a dream! . . .

Josef Schiltz

It's a shame that a show so broad in it's philosophy can have some fans that potently lack it and will attack anyone that doesn't completely validate their own viewpoint. Viewpoints are as mutable as are times and moods. The concept is vital enough, one of the - if not the - most uniquely vital in SF. The number of iterations it has been through is incredible and would have broken many. Sadly, the easiest breakages seem to be amidst the most immaturely venomously vocal of the fandom. A friend of mine, a creator himself, says as much of comics fandom and lists venomosity as the most prominent crossover feature of fandom.

Dan Williams

I use RedBubble, my parents order a mug, two years and the print was gone.... But I haven't found any easier way of selling stuff passively.

Matt

Great Episode, some may not like some writer, or some episodes, thats OK, don't hate anyone love the show, its glorious and fantastic, and remember after watching that ep, its a "kids show! " LOL - Love the fact a kids show can be so "horrific" and "disturbing", kids watch it for what it is, and thats what I do, watch it like a kid does. Love your work girls.

Josef Schiltz

Guys! You seriously really need to check out the fan made Ncuti Gatwa 60th anniversary Doctor Who intro by the digital artist Lenny Kiss! For your Gallifrey souls!! Just WOW!! The theme music variation is from Doctor Who 'Apocalypse' by Steve Martin.

Paul Flux

Regarding Jenna Coleman being an incredible actor, have you seen The Sandman? If not, you should seriously consider reacting to it on your channel!

Time Lord

I'm not sure it will be a channel react, but I absolutely plan on checking it out! I keep forgetting she's in it!! - Kat

Paul Flux

You know, whenever you gals discuss the weaknesses in Steven Moffat's writing, I absolutely agree with you about what those weaknesses are. It's just that I don't *feel* those weaknesses as strongly as you clearly do! I'm thinking of your reactions to Angels Take Manhattan, Last Christmas, Hell Bent etc. I suspect it may be vice versa with Chibnall's writing. For the record I don't hate Chibnall's era, I just found it largely disappointing. Particularly in comparison to RTD & Moffat, and in comparison to Broadchurch. While I'm not enthusiastic about the Timeless Child, it's been obvious to me for years that they were going to have to find a way to permanently lift the 12 regeneration limit for the Doctor. And although I thought the Flux storyline was a mess (and yes that is my family name!) I love that RTD had the Doctor acknowledge the trauma that it must have put them through.

Paul Flux

I mean you could check it out, and if you like it, react to it together. I hear the 'one fan, one newb' format is popular in certain circles... 😏

EePin Pang

Great reaction! The change from happy about mavity, to 'I don't like it' was very true for us too. Great episode that certainly reminded me of Midnight.

Darryl Glynn

Good to see Bernard Cribbins one last time. He was such a big name on children's TV in the 70's. It wasn't just Dalek's Invasion Earth 2150, but the voice of the Wombles!
