Yay! Been looking forward to this! Thanks for getting it posted so promptly!

Blower

Did not like that episode at all - it really irks me when they start retconning the very substance of the show. Regeneration is the core of Dr Who and to completely change what it is and wimp out of the old doctor's demise is pretty weak and takes a lot away from the next doctor. I have issues with all of the 60th specials tbh. This new Dr Who is not for me, but hey each to their own - if ya liked and enjoyed them, i'm not gonna try and take that away from anyone.

Ben

I think a 14 & Donna spin off would be pointless and basically a second version of the main show, not to mention how unfair it would be on Gatwa. I don't think that's what they were setting up here anyway. Also, I think 14 will properly become 15 eventually given the line 'We're Timelords, we're doing therapy in reverse' and the fact that 15 said he was OK because 14 took that break and got better.

Time Lord

I totally agree! I really don't feel like we need a spinoff with them. Just knowing he gets to live a life with his best friend and be happy is so so so good for me and my hearts. - Kat

Time Lord

Yeah, it's not gonna be for everyone thats for sure, but we're definitely in the boat of enjoying where it's going. Maybe it’ll take some surprising turns and pull you back in later! And also completely okay if not. We appreciate you being here and your take on it! - Kat

Makhiel

I am excited for what comes next but I'm kinda concerned that with Tennant's Doctor still in the picture there's a risk of him overshadowing our new Doctor.

Stephen Wray

Kate Stewart was wearing red nail polish in the episode. PS love the jumper

Josef Schiltz

Rory Williams: "There are soldiers all over my house and I'm in my pants" - Holding the beer: Fifteenth Doctor: "I'm on a UNIT helipad and my jukebox was almost exposed!" Fourteenth Doctor: "Anyway, moving on!" The TARDIS: "Planar bifurcation? I didn't know I could do that! Would do that! Will do that? I want to bite someone! . . . . Or was that kiss? Allons 'y! Oh . . . The skinny one with the spikey-up hair says that doesn't he. My beautiful thief!"

Geraint Harrison

15 has 14’s clothes, don’t get excited about 15 in his underwear, get excited about 14 commando 😂 jk but technically this means 14 blew his pants off in a regeneration, and that’s canon.

First Mystery

I loved so much about this! I really like the closure and separation the Bi-Regeneration gives the show. The Doctor has been dealing with trauma since New Who began starting with the Time War. We've never had a fully healed Doctor before which is exciting. Also felt pretty well implied that it happened at least in part due to the Toymakers rules of play allowing for myths to become real so it doesn't mean we are always going to get Bi-regenerations in the future. Also absolutely adore Ncuti, feels like The Doctor right from the get go!

Bill

As far as nukes go. I don't think it was ever an issue as in most, if not all, sites (even non-US) it requires at least two people to launch and no two people are going to agree on anything what with The Giggle and all.

Paul Flux

I re-watched your reaction to the 60th Trailer a couple of days ago. Paula's immediate reaction was '*please* fix Donna', and Kat's was 'RTD, if you kill Donna Noble I will hunt you down...'! Thankfully Kat does not need to go a-hunting! If only your past selves knew that not only did Donna get fixed and survived, but 14 survived and is getting fixed too!

Paul Flux

Oh and John Logie Baird and Stooky Bill are historically real. Baird demonstrated the first moving television pictures, but he used an electro-mechanical scheme that didn't catch on and was eclipsed by Philo Taylor Farnsworth's all-electronic scheme about a year later. Patriotism being what it is, Brits get taught that Logie Baird invented TV, while Americans are taught that it was Taylor Farnsworth!

Paul

I loved this episode!

Bill

NPH chewing it up inside UNIT HQ is just *chef's kiss* Bless him, he's a catastrophically incredible showman.

Nicole Mazza

Yeah, I'm getting angrier the more I think about these specials, especially 'The Giggle' and bigeneration bit. Tennant might be my favorite actor (though not my fave Doctor), but the weird pedestal they've put him on in the show is frankly a bit much (there's literally 4 Tennant-shaped Doctors running around at this point!), imo. And I think it really is undermining Ncuti. I'm already seeing people saying Tennant is 'the real Doctor' and Ncuti is just some 'half-Doctor' or off-shoot or whatever (and wanting to watch the Tennant and Tate show INSTEAD of Ncuti's). It really sucks. Especially with our first lead black Doctor (not that they did Jo Martin well either, as she's paired with a white Doctor too). 😡

Nicole Mazza

Already happening in fandom. 😢

Bill

Toymaker: "I think they're still falling." Closed Caption: *Thud* .. Straight up the coldest villain line delivery. DAMN I love NPH so much.

Bill

With two Doctors.... it's fine. It's happened before and back in Ye Olden Thymes all the timelords effed about in the universe in their TARDIS'. Therapy in reverse, like the Doctor said.

Krissie

Imagine The Doctor Donna adventures :) it would be so fun

Aunt Robin

Thanks for noticing who wore the red. I didn't want to have to go back looking for it.

Aunt Robin

I love how Kat has the exact same reactions I do when watching. I suspect we have a UNIT spinoff with Donna and other Companions either employed or freelancing for them so we get a nice mix of classic and NuWho guests. When things get bad, DT may step in - like 3x a year or they call Ncuti and do a crossover. Meanwhile, Ncuti is off doing the Doctor's job with his new companion.

Curtis Murphy

Oh god I hope not. I hope the show just lets Tennant's Doctor go already

Bill

There have been one-off exceptions in almost all the regenerations since the first.

Mark Ten

I think they might pull David & Catherine in for a special event, but doubt this will be a regular thing or a spin off. Overall I was very pleased with this episode. Yes, there are a lot of holes in the story (like why Wilf and the rest of the fam were seemingly unaffected by the giggle). but so what? It was a lot of fun and Neil Patrick harris chewed the scenery to pieces.

Wade Wallenstein

I have to agree on not liking these "60th Anniversary Specials" because it didn't feel like much of a celebration of Doctor Who as a whole. It just felt to me like it was a celebration of RTDs original run with a couple name drops and an appearance from a Classic Who companion and villain. I know that David Tennant is the favorite Doctor from this group but the whole thing with the puppets being the only callback to those incarnations annoyed me. They didn't even have Rose Tyler in that. The "Bigeneration" is already being referred to as "The Timeless Child 2.0" by some people because it's another thing that completely changes the core of the show and will cause more division in the fan base. It may be an over reaction by some but it does have some merit. On that point: Yes, there have been multiple Doctors at the same time before and the Meta Crisis Doctor but none of them end up staying in the same timeline or even the same universe as one another like we have now. What happens if 14 regenerates and does another "Old Face." Will he have the memories of 15 or go out of sync with him? That's a question that truly needs to be addressed.

Nicole Mazza

Also, is it REALLY a happy ending for the Doctor? Yes, he gets to live with the Temple/Nobles, but he also gets to watch them grow old and die, while he stays the same. It's like the Tenth Doctor said in 'School Reunion': 'You can spend the rest of your life with me, but I can't spend the rest of my life with you.' It's part of why the Doctor is always running: to escape all of that loss.

James Evans

As it was mentioned in The Giggle by the 15th Doctor that he’s only okay because the 14th Doctor decided to fix himself, that they’re doing rehab out of order, and it was mentioned by the 14th Doctor and Donna that the 15th Doctor is older, I think that means the 14th Doctor, after having healed from all of the trauma, eventually goes back to the point of the bi-regeneration and comes out as the 15th Doctor, a closed circuit sort of situation.

James Evans

The TARDIS, the Doctor decided to let the TARDIS put it away deep within her, somewhere the Doctor could never find it. She needs time to heal from everything she’s discovered, plus she’s probably too scared to discover why she was a foundling, a natural fear would be that she was unwanted by her bio parents and they abandoned her, or that they died. So many unknown possibilities.

Myka Martinez

Love being along for the ride with y'all. It's always a joy seeing you react and getting a second go at first time vibes. I love the thing with the salt being what pulled The Toymaker into our reality in part because RTD almost under the radar pointed to the power of binding with salt having taken hold as a real part of the world. And just before that Ncuti's Doctor says bigeneration was just a myth, but that also happened. So if superstitions and myths have suddenly become part of reality, what other superstitions and myths might start leaking through? As far as the Timeless Child, over time I've really come to vibe with almost all of it. Though I'd love RTD to, even if we don't know exactly where in the Doctor's timeline, make some nod to Ruth Doctor having been pulled from between the numbered Doctor's regenerations. For no other reason than her TARDIS being a police box still makes no sense for me.

Robert Elessar

In response to your question: Yes, I am VERY excited.

Myka Martinez

Also, I didn't catch on until today, but can we talk about how Tenant's Doctor isn't wearing any underwear after the split? 🤣

Dan Williams

This was amazing and I'm excited for the vast possibilities that this leads to. That grandfather sun thing that Clara gave a leaf to would be having a huge feast. This could give the radio dramas canon within TV canon, alternate universes where each Doctor lives on. POSSIBILITIES!!!

Kathy A

I loved how you say that Eleven and Thirteen reacted to bad stuff the same way by putting a happy face on. That reminded me of one of my favorite YT Doctor Who videos— Council of Geek sorted the then thirteen Doctors into Hogwarts houses! Loads of fun. They have as the only Hufflepuff Doctors Nine, Eleven, and Thirteen.

hrcaffee

1:24:26 : this is a British show, I think what you mean to say is "he's well fit..." 😅😉

Rach

Loved it. I think the salt thing will explain more than just the toymaker, as bi-generation was also mythical, there's goblins next episode and the toymaker also hinted at his 'leigons' coming in his death scene. My guess is that the Doctor has opened the whoniverse up to all manner of fantasy creatures and myths.

William Green

Yeah I like this episode not as much as Wild Blue Yonder, which kind of gives me Midnight vibes but so much worse. Anyways back to this episode I think the bi-generation thing is pretty interesting and kind of makes me wonder if one of the spin-offs supposedly in the works is going to be called DoctorDonna if so I can imagine that it will be very similar to the beginning of the 3rd Doctor's run which I would not be mad at. Now this may seem a little nit-picky but does anyone feel weird about calling Nucti Gawa (think I spelled that right) the 15th Doctor, David Tennant is the 14th Doctor in the same way John Hurt was the 10th. I guess what I'm saying is I'm going to be calling Nucti Gawa the 14th Doctor. Has anyone else had this problem.

EePin Pang

I really enjoyed everything but the bigeneration threw me off certainly. And how quickly the Toymaker lost. Nothing clever happening there. I really liked Ncuti's doctor and am excited to see how he does things. Regeneration is such a big thing in Dr Who myth, it's where a lot of tension happens and a lot of ideas of self happens for the Doctor. But everything else, the therapy, 14th being with his family, him saying he's the happiest... that's beautiful. I just gotta get over the bi-generation.

EePin Pang

Once again! Love your reactions! All your excitement is so much fun to watch!

i always think back to The War Games and reason out that all this business with The Doctor's supranormal regenerations has to do with some Time Lord deviousness that was carried out at the very end and that some splintering was carried out - "No! What are you doing? . . Is this some sort of joke?!" - and this was done simply because they realized his usefulness in the cosmic order. We followed one of The Doctor's timelines, the one we are familiar with, but there were versions of him flying all over the place, rarely bumping into each other as events necessitated it, and they've been puppetmastering him as corrective cosmic software ever since. It also explains why the TARDIS always takes him where he "needs to be" rather than where he needs to go. The Toymaker's ray merely induced a further split which backfired upon the Toymaker and provided the unexpected benefit of providing some solace for a war and time worn lineage.

Josef Schiltz

It's a glad and timely echo of what happened at the end of The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe when a place had already been set for Eleven at Amy and Rory's Christmas festivities. He has a family.

The Toymaker's ray merely induced a further split which backfired upon the Toymaker and provided the unexpected benefit of providing some solace for a war and time worn lineage. My own view is that Ruth's incarnation stems from that original splintering of the Troughton incarnation. The Time Lords can also make each Doctor's incarnation's memory essentially gappy. If they are drawn together to tackle incidents that are cosmically perilous, they can easily use each incarnation's TARDIS to excise that portion of the Doctor's memory. Eleven mentions to Amy that history is being rewritten all around us and our memories are fine. Subconsciously though, something tells him that his memories aren't.

Josef Schiltz

Much has been brought up about the Doctor's memories and syncing up. He has a tremendous capacity for remembering, as we all do, however whilst he has claims of precise recall - as he said to Tegan - his claims don't measure up to reality in the moment and neither is memory fully functional between incarnations and never has been. When one or more incarnations meet, they sync up telepathically and that happens via a lateral transmission that happens automatically. That's how Time Lords recognize each other in their various incarnations. Most memories, like our own, sleep in the mind and are only brought to the surface via an external stimulus. Which probably explains experiences like deja vu for instance. A pattern repeated triggers a sleeping memory. A being so "ancient" as Victoria called the Doctor in Tomb Of The Cybermen would have a massive storage compartment of sleeping memories otherwise his executive - day-to-day - functioning would simply collapse and he would be a complete gibbering wreck. Victoria: "You probably can't remember your family." The Doctor: "Oh yes, I can when I want to. And that's the point, really. I have to really want to, to bring them back in front of my eyes. The rest of the time they sleep in my mind, and I forget. And so will you. Oh yes, you will. You'll find there's so much else to think about." "I have to really want to" is the point - and need to! - as in The Three Doctors, when the Third Doctor regards the flute that has appeared on the console as "vaguely familiar!" at first attributing it's presence to Jo and asking, "Is it yours?" It's only when the Second Doctor appears that, in that moment, the telepathic sync up happens. Further information is then transmitted when they sync up purposefully. I also suspect that the Time Lords have their own devious ways of making sure that memories that are inconvenient are either obfuscated or cleared completely from every incarnation of their 'cosmic makeweight', The Doctor, as time and Time Lord move swiftly on.

Josef Schiltz

Just imagine, if it wasn't for the Rank Xerox - sorry, the Racnoss - and Lance picking on Donna - and that because of turning left instead of right - and the Toymaker determining to have a second conflict with our favourite Time Lord so many years after the first, then the Doctor wouldn't have had this happy ending and a family. Funny how, despite the machinations of villainous entities, things work out in the end.

tal goren

I think the implication of Ruth Doctor's Tardis being a police box, is that it was already stuck like that before the Doctor was mindwiped, and when the "first" Doctor saw it, he subconsciously knew it was his and decided to steal it.

Josef Schiltz

However, that contradicts the "Long time ago on Gallifrey" scene in The Name Of The Doctor where the Doctor and Susan are sneaking aboard one in the repair shop where all the TARDISes have the basic cylindrical shape.

Josef Schiltz

I still suspect that the Toymaker is one of the Eternals.

Myka Martinez

It was a police box because the chameleon circuit was only stuck after it hid it as one when the TARDIS first materialized in the I.M. Forman junkyard all the way back in An Unearthly Child. So Ruth would need to have been an incarnation of The Doctor who existed in their timeline after they and Susan left the junkyard with Ian and Barbara.
