It's really great you're plowing on though the seasons, just one question though. Are you still going to react to the Making of Documentaries?

Jasper de Vries

The only thing wrong with Quarantine is that I refuse to believe Cat getting in a Gingham dress, even for a lark.

Henchman Twenty1

I've got my very own Mr. Flibble hand puppet. He's still in the package as there's no way I'm letting that cute little psycho out of stasis! Because "Mr. Flibble is very cross!" Also RD definitely has a one up on Star Fleet by using scouters instead of just sending crewmembers off to their potential deaths in unknown situations.

EternusNex

So are you going to be the Gals from the Dwarf now?

Raven Stromdans

This is one of my favorite episodes, partly for the fact that Mr. Flibble became such a beloved little aspect of the Red Dwarf fandom, much like a couple of other one-off characters somehow developed a curious following. I always enjoy the two of you trying to work out where each episode is going and how they've so far successfully swerved enough to catch you all off guard. LOVE. THAT. Keep Calm and Smeg On, Gallifrey Gals! I'll be here smoking a kipper with Mr. Flibble until the next episode!

Daryl Hudson

I loved the blue spikey mohican that for me was my favourite hair style of yours

Matthew Hanlon

One of my absolute favourite episodes. Season 5 is probably my favourite, the second half might be my favourite run of episodes.

Blower

I think this is my most favourite episode of all, nothing tops it!....if you disagree I think that would warrant 2 hours of W.O.O! and the potato king will not save you.

MCT

This is probably my favourite episode, although it's kind of difficult to go wrong with series 5 and 6. I always wanted one of those official Mr Flibble puppets but they'd stopped making them a while ago and now they tend to be a bit pricey on eBay. 😱

Blower

'We are just chaotic, and that stays in the patreon edit.....if you ever wanna see that, more off topic ramblings, ya find those on our patreon....and on the higher tiers you get even more....more of that shit!' You've sold me, but think you need to work a little more on the sales speech lol :D

MCT

Same here - I remember the VHS tape of those 3 episodes was always the most expensive one on yahoo auctions. The BBC always had a weird stance with refusing to show repeats, at least of Red Dwarf, so the old tapes cost a fortune second hand - that particular one being anywhere up to 40 quid.

Mark Ten

I was just thinking that you must be near meeting Mr Flibble... Coincidence? I think not, W.O.O.!

Mark Ten

Question for the group... Mr Flibble or Mister Huffle? Choose, now!

Lizbeth Marcs

This is one of those episodes where I don't think Rimmer is *entirely* in the wrong. I mean, yes, he's being very Rimmer-y at the beginning of the episode, but at the same time his crewmates basically TELL him that he's going to be replaced (at least part-time) as the ship's hologram without first having a discussion with him. Considering Rimmer up to this point has no faith that he'd be turned back on after being shut off (this is the throughline for his character starting with S1, ep2), and that being shut off is a hologram's equivalent of death, I can't blame him for his blow-up here. Does Rimmer go overboard? You betchya. But that's also a consistent throughline for his character. Show him the least little bit of kindness, he goes overboard repaying in kind. Show him the least little bit of unkindness, he goes overboard on the payback. I also want to add one more thing about the episode in general: As someone who saw this YEARS before COVID lock-downs, I can tell you unequivocally that this episode hits very, very differently in a post-COVID world.

Blower

The days before 'Dave' hey!

Wade Wallenstein

From being stressed with BSG to tons of laughter with Red Dwarf! It’s a smart set up 😁

Susan K Dailey Photography

If you ever go to a Red Dwarf convention, or a comic con the actors are at...you're almost guaranteed to see someone in a red gingham check dress!

Travis Boyle

They sell handmade unofficial ones on Etsy for cosplayers. I was going to send a couple to the Gals but I wasn't sure if they saw the episode yet and now because of the end of this reaction they probably ordered them by now. Didn't want to spoil the episode for them.

John Veitch

"And we're going to............ live."

Paflad

If this episode proves nothing else it proves that Chris Barrie has a late stage career renaissance playing creepers and serial killers just waiting to happen.

Travis Boyle

Loved all the Trek type stuff in this episode. The Space Corps Directives reminiscent of the Prime directive. And the funniest part for me was the "Tricorder" type device and how it was a budget model and they weren't sure they would live. Lol. Oh and love the ramblings.

Blower

With army boots ;)

MCT

The Etsy maker now has my money. 😊 Cheers.

Bret Hart

"But who will clean up the mess?"

Chris Bordeman

One of my favortie episodes. Starting when Rimmer traps them, it's comedy perfection.

John Veitch

The VHS tapes had the episodes in a different order. Holoship was placed with Back To Reality and Demons & Angels, and Quarantine was placed with The Inquisitor and Terrorform. Maybe so that the best received episodes (Quarantine and Back To Reality) were on separate tapes to make sure people bought both volumes.

John Veitch

At the start of the lockdown in March 2020, my sister messaged me "Flibble time".

Logan Bruin

I had a Mr. Flibble two or three moves ago, no idea what happened to it.

Josef Schiltz

To the tune of Heinrich Ernst Carnival of Venice Variations, Opus 18 (The ultimate crazy tune!) My penguin plays the piano, He plays it in one key, My penguin plays the piano, He plays in the key of 'C'. Rimmer: "Let's lean into it a little shall we?" Cat, Kryten and Lister: "Noooooooooh!"

Sebastian Bodine

That's a crushing loss. I know I'd have a meltdown when I'd realize

Sebastian Bodine

One thing I've noticed about these reactions is that Kat and Paula have been laughing out loud less and less with these series 5 reactions because they're doing their best to follow along with the science fiction concepts. This just reinforces what I've been saying since the beginning that Red Dwarf is not a parody of science fiction, but it's own style of science fiction as the concepts are serious and it's our characters that make it funny.

Sebastian Bodine

Separately, I'd like to highlight how much philosophy is also referenced to or built upon throughout the show as we start getting scary in this episode with a Schopenhauer quote. It always adds to the franchise when they sneak in philosophy

Sebastian Bodine

Asking the important question that we've been wondering about the instant that they said they were going to continue reacting to the show.

Katrine Myra

Oh man, I wish someone had done that to me, it would have helped a lot!

Katrine Myra

I think this is the first time I've re-watched Quarantine post-2020, and as others have noted, it does hit different...! I think this is the first time we see explicitly how Lister clings to optimism as a coping mechanism, to a fault. That's always been a major part of his character, but they lampshade it for the first time, here. There is a shift in how he deals with his situation over the course of the subsequent series, and I'm curious to see y'all's take on it. Series VII especially... Wednesdays are super busy for me, but they're always made better by the knowledge that I have this reaction to catch up on Thursday mornings. *penguin grin*

Katrine Myra

(I might be misremembering, but I believe there's an amazing smeg-up of Danny trying to get the "heckles/feckles/etc." line right.)

Lizbeth Marcs

The "Making of Documentary" talks about how that the entire bunk scene with Cat, Kryten, and Lister was a complete mess because none of them could remember their lines. Even Craig Charles, who usually knows EVERYONE'S lines kept messing up. They had to literally rebuild the entire performance in the edit suite using various takes pieced together.

Josef Schiltz

Kryten: "It is a little known fact that Mr Flibble writes novels under the pseudonym P. N. Guin! Ha haa Ho hoH! That was my little experiment with humour, sirs!" Cat: "You've jus' added to my pain!"

Salix

I actually have the Mr flibble is very cross Tshirt. Always fun to walk around town wearing it getting nods from random people who recognise what it's about 😆

MCT

Oh yeah of course - I'm so used to calling them Bytes I forgot each tape had a title episode. Just had a look at s5 tapes and yeah the whole series is messed up. Trivial as it is, I find that weirdly uncomfortable, it's like putting the songs on an album in a different order! 😤😊

Matthew Hanlon

I was lucky enough to tape them off tv on their initial airing so never noticed that

tal goren

I have just recently watched the reactions of series 4 of doctor who, and in one of the reactions, Kat had experimented with long, straight hair. really felt weird seeing that. their new hair style suit them better.

Luke Lawley

Best line for me 🤣🤣🤣

Travis Boyle

Lol. First thing I thought about was Penguin using P.N. Guin as an alias on the Adam West Batman Movie.

Josef Schiltz

Ha! Interesting. I saw the Adam West movie many years ago and didn't remember that! My source is actually Spike Milligan and he used it in one of his Goon Shows back in 1957. Of course Spike may have, in turn, got it from somewhere else. Who knows how long that gag has been around.

John Veitch

Indeed, only people who don't know the series very well call it a "sci-fi parody". It *contains* moments, lines and scenes which are parodies of specific sci-fi films and TV, but on the whole it's a sci-fi comedy. (And series 5 feels in places more like a sci-fi horror with a higher than usual rate of tension-breaking jokes).

Rumpus Parable Art

Coming in a couple years late, but I really appreciated them lampshading how "bad guys" never can aim properly, regardless of how straight the shot lol.
