Peter

So been looking forward to this

BrightHeart

Unfortunately will have to be giving this a miss as can't find any (legal) ways to get the episodes without paying per season.

Peter

Shame that this one needs own copy. I own all of this on bluray however, I tend to watch your reactions on my phone. Will have to work out a new way of fitting in watching this.

Time Lord

We totally understand! There will still be the cut down version for YouTube that has images from the episode cut in for reference. If we were legally able to provide the show, I know we'd do it in a heartbeat. I apologize that we're unable to do so moving forward! - Kat

Time Lord

For legal reasons we will be moving forward with watch along format for our shows. I know that can make things a little more difficult when it comes to watching, but I hope it isn't too much and you're able to still enjoy in the long run! Thank you for your support and understanding. - Kat

Time Lord

I will do some research to see if this is something we're able to easily do on our end for y'all!

Angelus-1701

Hadn’t watched this show in forever, forgot just how good it is

Daniel Deeks

And there's nearly four seasons of that kinda writing / acting / music.

Christian Rennie

Hey y'all, this is a high emotional show but it is soooo worth it! I'm glad we get to see your reactions to this one. Also, there is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it at 14:40 ish with a Firefly class ship easter-egg when it pans the sky of Caprica through the window in the beginning part of the scene where the Prez gets the Cancer Diagnosis. I think the first time I saw Gaius I thought he was a weasel and a bit icky, but mostly a weasel.

Richard Greene

FYI, if you haven't already heard this series isn't a sequel to the story of the original show, but a reboot. They have kept some parts from the original but massively updated and given a different, darker spin on in it. Many of the characters are new versions of ones from the classic series, gender-flipped in some cases (Starbuck).

Wade Wallenstein

Why am I starting another watch along of this when I'm deep into one already? Because it's that Frakking good! It's also great to see another perspective on it. This is somewhat of a "Soft Reboot" of the original from 1978. Some of the items you see in the Gift Shop are references to that. The music you hear during the fly-by before Commander Adama's speech is also a version of the original theme. There are 4 Seasons that vary from 15 to 20 episodes.

Mike Connaghan

I predict Paula comes to appreciate that choice, which I'm not sure what it is, but I have a guess.

Mike

Still sad we're not watching Farscape but I'm still here for Battlestar its an excellent show!

Stephen Wray

Lorne Greene played original Adama in the 1978 version, the original Baltar played Kor in Star Trek: TOS & ST:DS9

Stephen Wray

When I first watched the show got chills when they played the original theme music

Funny That

How did I ever come to think of the mini series as a slow/considered introduction? Definitely a new years now, and lots of interesting episodes to follow. And if it is your first time through, do hold out hopes for humour throughout the rest of the show. It'll be black with no sugar at times, but it'll be there.

Wade Wallenstein

Same here. I even hit rewind to hear it again lol

Kieran B

Awesome! Can’t wait to watch. Have either of you seen The Expanse..?

Mike Connaghan

And if not, that's okay. There's value in watching 100 hours of hate-watching.

michael mccafferty

It is worth remembering that this miniseries was broadcast in 2003. That means the story was being developed in the aftermath of 9/11, produced during the invasion of Afghanistan and it aired shortly after we declared "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq. Political nuance was dead and jingoism was widespread. War footage was everywhere in mass media. Extreme social and political polarization -- that, arguably, the nation never recovered from. BSG is excellent writing, it stands on its own, but in my opinion remembering the social/political climate adds some flavor to the story telling.

Bill Weaver

Thts is a complete reboot of the original so none of the actors are from the original and many of the main characters are the same and the events take place ln the same timeline as the original. The original lead does appear as a new character. In the original Baltar was more like a classic DrWho villan

Bruce Bromley

Now I wish I had voted for Babylon 5.😁 All of their seasons are available for free on Tubi as is Red Dwarf. Well, smegging frak! I'll have to experience it as an audio drama. while listening to your reactions.😁🌌

John

Are you watching this on Amazon or DVD/Blu-Ray? Just a heads up that some episodes have both a broadcast version and extended version available. Also, there's at least one two part episode in a future season where Amazon treats both parts as a single episode, so it throws off the episode numbers for anyone using discs.

John Welch

I feel ya. In the gals defense when they first put the poll out BSG WAS available on Peacock. It left the next month. I wish I had voted Farscape. I waited through the strike for this but I just can't justify paying cash per episode or season for something I have seen dozens of times over the last 20 years as part of one of my half a dozen subscriptions I already pay for. My internal logic forbids it, lol. I can only hope it is streaming again by the end of the year.

Blower

Ahh, BSG! - I absolutely loved the first couple of seasons of this back when it was first aired. It went sideways in later seasons imo, but still if I compare BSG to some of the absolute tosh that's been churned out in recent years to be labelled 'sci-fi', then even the worst of BSG is excellent lol!....enjoy gals!

Blower

The Expanse is one of the best sci-fi series, period. Glorious pure no nonsense sci-fi that's so rare nowadays. Was sad to see it end, but very glad they brought it back for a final season to give it a proper finish.

Kieran B

Couldn’t agree more

Kathy A

My favorite non-Star Trek SF show!! Thanks so much for watching this. A few small details I’ll mention here. First, love the distinctive BSG squares-with-cut-off-corners style! It must have driven the set designers bonkers to cut off all of the papers’ corners. Second, and not a spoiler since they really don’t address it later, you might recognize the boy sitting next to Boomer as her ship takes off from Caprica—his photo was on the desk of the armistice station officer who snogged the blonde Cylon. Finally, with all of the amazing acting and writing on this show, what makes it stand out from sadly every other SF show I’ve seen is the number of strong female characters in the regular cast. They aren’t just side pieces to the male characters, but women with jobs and agendas and lives of their own to lead, regardless of whom they’re frakking. Oh, and one more thing that I’ll be very vague about. There is a character here who has one of my two favorite character arcs in all of the television shows I’ve seen. I love seeing that character here all unsullied by what happens later.

Mark Ten

Hard reboot, not a sequel to the original series. Retelling. The character namkes are the same but they are very different this time.

Blower

Would love this sorta thing for a lot of your content - would even pay for a higher patreon tier. Red dwarf with normal(ish) volume on a download option would be great!...understand if not possible tho as i guess its a crap load more work for poor Kat!

Blower

'Political nuance was dead and jingoism was widespread. War footage was everywhere in mass media. Extreme social and political polarization'........sounds like today!

Thontor

Can I make a request? i don't know if it's possible, but can you enable changing the playback speed on the vimeo video? I like to watch the Intro/discussions at 2x speed.

Mark Ten

You know what? This kind of shit wouldnt be allowed on Babylon 5 when they were on duty.

John

As emotional as this is so far, imagine watching this 2 years after 9/11. The acting from everyone on this show is next level. To have such a talented ensemble is so rare.

Mark Ten

I remember the first time I saw Olmos, it was the premiere of Miami Vice, he was sitting at a desk reading and he looked up and it was like his eyes burned through the TV screen. I couldnt breathe and I think my heart stopped for a moment. He is an extraordinary presence.

John

EJO can command more attention with a whisper than most actors can shouting through a bullhorn.

Mark Ten

There was a line in a book I remember, "He hosed fear with his eyes"

Data Cable

The footage of Laura being sworn in was deliberately framed to resemble a famous photo of LBJ taking the oath of office aboard what took off as Air Force 2, but landed as Air Force 1, after JFK was assassinated.

Thontor

I think your reaction to Gaius Baltar is exactly what the showrunners intended.

Kathy A

The story of the casting of Edward James Olmos is pretty good. RDM, the show runner, was saying to his producing partner that what he wanted for Bill Adama was “an Edward James Olmos type.” Finally, they got the nerve to actually send him the script. However, Olmos took one look at the title and thought it was stupid, so he put it aside. One night at a book signing, his wife was sitting to the side and was reading the script. At the end of the night, she told him to give it a read, because it was damn good and his character was terrific. He did, and called them the next day. Mary McDonnell was another ideal get for them, but since she was an Oscar-nominated actress, they never dreamed she would be interested. As soon as she read the script, she was all in.

Sebastian Bodine

And here I was thinking that Babylon 5 or Farscape would take over the Tuesday slot. :'(

IcarusAbides

I'll take any excuse to rewatch this show and it was great seeing you react to it. Can't wait for more

Roy J.

Fun fact, Ronald D Moore (screenwriter and producer) worked on a lot of Star Trek TNG and DS9 episodes. He worked, among most 2-parters, on the Klingon centric episodes in both shows and TNG's finale. His style is certainly noticeable in BSG. There are also easter eggs to Star Trek throughout the show in blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments. Mostly it's the number 1701 that'll pop up and in some space shots of the fleet you can see the Enterprise in the background. Ronald D Moore confirmed them at a con. The Serenity from Firefly also had a quick cameo.

Roy J.

Retelling yet also as sequel in a way. It's both.

Time Lord

We previously had a vote before the strike and BSG won the vote amongt the patrons!

Travis Boyle

Fun reaction video. A rollercoaster ride of crying, laughing, horniness, and stress. Lol. Hear you Kat about Starbuck/Katee Sackhoff. 😍. Maybe if you have time that day do your eventual Star Trek Lower Decks reactions after as a stress reliever.

Locoturbo

Was excited before - now I am SUPER excited. So glad you liked it! This may be obvious, but PLEASE avoid spoilers for this show. Like, way beyond any other show. Sometimes bad actors enter the comments to try to ruin it. You may want to rely on mods to show you select comments, rather than reading yourself.

Salix

Kat saying she thinks she's in love with Starbuck. Me sat hear thinking to myself...yep you and every other nerd in the past ~20 years this show is most of the reason Filoni cast her as Bo Katan. That and the fact that Katee Sackhoff is just a stunningly gorgeous BAMF 🙃

Mark Ten

Sorry, I really dont see it like that since the events & people of the original series' timeline dont come into play here. Too bad, I miss the Cylon with the clown head & Dr. Smith's voice.

Nicole Mazza

Soooo excited for this! I used to watch the Original Series back when I was a kid, so when this came out, I was super-pumped. In fact, I used to watched it at the same time as when Doctor Who came back (they usual ran concurrent). It's very dark and a wild ride, but some REALLY amazing television. (Plus, as a Hellenic polytheist, I always loved that the human society in this show shares my religion and thought it was a really interesting switch-up to have the conservative monotheists be the baddies against the pagans, when it's usually the other way around!)

Nicole Mazza

(Also, at our local rituals, I've been know to say 'So Say We All' before, just because...)

John

The Serenity cameo is the scene on Caprica when the doctor tells Roslin she has cancer. It can be seen flying overhead through the large windows.

Nicole Mazza

Oh, and EVERYONE was in love with Starbuck, so I totally feel you! (Also, I still remember getting the DVDs back in the day and watching the bonus features and being SHOOK that Jamie Bamber -- Apollo -- was British. He's got a flawless American accent!)

Nicole Mazza

Also, having a stress toy or snack at the ready will be an excellent idea for you going forward. I learned never to marathon these episodes back in the day because they rarely break the tension, just amp it up instead, so taking one episode at a time is best with time to decompress afterward. The writing (and acting) is AMAZING, but definitely puts you through the ringer anxiety/stress-wise.

Nicole Mazza

Oh, and for something light that's related, the 'Portlandia' episode about BSG is PERFECTION! <3

PickettsChargingPort

I didn't know this was coming. when It popped up my first thought was... oh, god. This is going to be like watching 'arcane'. My second thought.... Kat is gonna just love starbuck. I'm glad I was right. She's a great character. Boomer is, as well, as is the President. The show is just stacked with badass women.

JXTN

Looking forward to these! :) Btw, you expressed confusion on why Gaius allowed the blonde access to the mainframe. (Not a spoiler, dw, this was all in the the episode you just watched.) She's a machine, she would thus be excellent with computers, and she traded her help with the computer side of his defense project (which she states he was having trouble with) for access to the mainframe (alongside her seduction). Effectively she manipulated his self-interest.

Sebastian Bodine

Ah! That makes more sense! I was not a patron at that point. Thank goodness you two started picking up Red Dwarf!

tal goren

Of course we all knew Gaius was a bad guy. look how greasy his hair is.

Azure_Sentry

Signed up for this show, can't wait for this journey!

Azure_Sentry

Having just reached the end of the reaction, another option (though a slightly lengthy one) is something related to Adama and Starbuck's back and forth phrase "What do you hear, Starbuck." "Nothing but the rain."

Firefly24601

They are watching the streaming version.

John

Good to know. I'm watching on Blu-Ray. I don't think the episode numbers go off until Season 3. Can't remember for sure. Also on the discs, both the regular length and extended length episodes are available. If the streaming service calls out which one, please let us know.

Firefly24601

B5 wasn't an option, I'm afraid. Only BSG and Farscape. Kat has trypophobia, which brings up the problem of Narns and their spots. And without Narns....

Bruce Bromley

It HAS been a bit, thought it may have been. Never occurred to me about the Narns. I was coming from the angle that B5 had a lot of Trek actor crossover.

John

I did not know that. Good info!

John

Really looking forward to this. Not only is BSG some of the best Sci-Fi on TV, it's some of the best drama on TV. I love that there's an over-arching story and it's not just episodic TV. Babylon 5 was also like that.

John

He looks like he secrets his own hair gel.

Drake

sadly battlestar doesnt stream in my country but i own mini series and season 1 on dvd, but they do not sync up, by some reason they are faster then your version so your version is out of sync in a matter of 5 seconds. (Its the german dvd with english voicelines) May i ask where you watch it ? So maybe there is a way i can watch it there too so i could sync up, would be a shame if i could not watch the whole show because of desync versions

BC_Nerd_42

The Viper Mk IIs (the older fighters from the museum) are my favourite starfighter, second is the X-Wing from Star Wars

Mordredd

Oh I have the same thing, don't worry! its just the very old weird European cut. For some strange reason someone went through the whole mini series and cut all the scenes to be slightly shorter. nothing important gets cut though, they loose a few seconds of people entering and leaving rooms, but its every scene! Weird! I coped by pressing pause on the dvd every once in a while to resync with the Gals. The other seasons DVD's should be the same as US I think.

Mordredd

Oh yeah, I totally agree! Ummm, not sure if you gals really want to go full marathon through all seasons with no pauses. There is only so much heartbreak and tension the human heart can withstand ;) Perhaps take a tiny breather after every season finale? something with sunshine rainbows and fluffy bunnies... wouldnt want anyone to have a mental breakdown afterall :) Love this show so much, but watch responsibly :D

Drake

ah ok i will see season 1 then :) it just looked liked it runs a bit faster not seen anything cut and yeah i never understand why they have to screw with the european dvd's ... there is just no reason to do it other then someone needed a reason to have a job xD

Brina Blue

Hi GGs! I'm just spending a lazy Sunday watching the Patreon versions of a few of the episodes that I didn't have access to back when they first aired on YouTube! Yes, I watched and upvoted the other version, but I'm all about the uncut version! So glad you went with BSG instead of Farscape! Not that Farscape wouldn't suit your brand, but it's really a little too much on-the-nose for it in one fan's opinion! BSG gives you something consistently meaty for now, and Farscape will be perfect for your future! Love you two!
