Hi everyone!I’m happy to share a preview of an important new feature coming to JAM, and this short video shows it in action.

Until now, if a download failed halfway or if you accidentally deleted a chapter, you had to re-download everything from scratch. This meant wasting time, consuming more data, and putting unnecessary stress on the source websites.

That will end soon.

In the video above, you can see the new download system (using OkHttp) in action:

First Download (Empty Cache): It takes over 75 seconds to fetch the chapter!

Second and Third Download (With Cache): Even if the chapter is deleted from the disk, JAM will recognize its cached data and the re-downloads finishes in just 3 or 4 seconds!

This is a real game changer. Until now, if something went wrong during the download of a chapter, JAM had to start over and re-download the entire chapter from scratch. With the new cache system, JAM will only re-download the missing pages, drastically reducing total download time. This also means far fewer HTTP requests sent to websites, which helps avoid unnecessary server load and reduces the risk of rate limits or bans.

Of course, this feature will be completely optional. Users will be able to enable or disable caching as they prefer, since not everyone wants to use additional disk space. There will also be an option to automatically clear the cache when closing the program, so it won’t keep accumulating over time. Additionally, users will be able to choose the maximum size of the local cache directly from the settings. As always in JAM, the user will have full control over the program’s settings 👍

Overall, this is a major improvement that will bring significant benefits in speed, reliability, and efficiency.

Stay tuned for more updates because there’s a lot more coming! 🚀

Great feature! Sometimes downloads fail at %99 and it feels so bad to download everything all over again 😅 thanks for all the hard work!

I have noticed that it can be difficult if you're downloading several mangas to bulk rearrange their priority (or move them to the top of the list). I had some chapters fail and they ended up at the bottom of the list. Trying to redownload them, moving them up the priority only bumped them up once when I had several hundred ahead of them. I was surprised I couldn't seem to drag them up the list with the mouse, nor could I select multiple and increase their priority, or move them to the top of the list with a "Download Now" option, or pause the others and only download the ones I wanted. Is there something I'm missing?

It sounds like you may have run into an error or an unhandled exception that temporarily blocked or partially froze the UI, because under normal circumstances, all of the actions you mentioned are already supported 🤔 You can select multiple chapters at once in several ways: by dragging the mouse to select a range on the list, by holding CTRL to select individual chapters, or by using SHIFT to select a continuous range, just as in any normal application. Once multiple chapters are selected, you can move them together and manage their priority. Additionally, by right-clicking on the selected chapters, you can access the context menu, which allows you to increase or decrease their priority and pause or resume downloads as needed. So features like rearranging priorities, pausing other downloads, or focusing on specific chapters are already available. If this behavior happens again, please let me know and, if possible, share your logs. That would help me understand whether there’s a UI-related issue/exception that needs to be addressed. EDIT: Regarding pausing chapters and starting others, maybe there is a bit of confusion on this point, so let me clarify it better. A chapter that is put on pause is still considered an “active” download by the system and it still uses a slot. This means that if, for example, you have a maximum of 3 concurrent downloads set in the settings and you pause 3 downloads, no additional chapter will start downloading. From the system’s perspective, there are already 3 downloads with an active download process, even if they are currently paused for you. So even if you increase the priority of the next download to the maximum, it will still wait until a slot becomes available to start, that is, until one of the 3 paused downloads is completed. If you want to stop some downloads and immediately start another one, you have two options: either increase the maximum number of concurrent slots in the settings to a value higher than the number of downloads currently paused, or completely stop the chapter downloads (not pause them, but stop them). However, if you stop them completely, since there is currently no support for resuming and downloading only the missing pages (something that will change with the OkHttp cache integration mentioned in the post above), you will need to download the entire chapter again from scratch by performing a reset on the chapter.
