Crafting Code Written (Patreon)
Content
I spent most of the week figuring out how to implement the crafting system. I tried a few different designs and ways to code it and felt like I was wasting time redoing it, but am glad I didn't settle for my first idea, as the final approach I devised is more efficient and intuitive.
The setup is: You click any item in the bag and it will follow your mouse. Then you can click on the plate to eat it (if possible) or place it onto the crafting board. If the placed items match a recipe you have learned, it will show a 50% opacity image of the craftable on the plate. Then, you click the plate to craft the item, and it appears beside your bag. I let my tester play with it and the only advice was to allow drag and drop (instead of clicking) so I'll implement that if possible.
At the game start, the player will have to figure out recipes, but once they learn how to craft paper and ink, they can craft a 'recipe book' and search by name to craft things. This week I'll be putting in as many recipes and needed for the early game, and properly assigning resources to the scenery. I'll need to draw some more variances of the trees and might also code in less random spawn rate, instead having each resource (mostly) be in specific locations on the map. Since the player can only carry limited items, it'll promote advancement of storage improvement and base building.
