Here is a sneak peek at the next jam which will be out this Friday, the mastering still needs a few tweaks but I think the mix is done. It's one of my favourite compositions ever but the performance is sloppy as hell, aha.

Actually that's not really funny, the recording of this jam was a pretty painful experience, I was soooo stressed. I tend to put some virtual pressure on my shoulders because I try to outdone myself every time. Then I get caught up in complicated tracks I can barely perform and it makes me feel like I'm worthless (as a musician). So yeah I think it's important to acknowledge one's limitation and to work within those limitations. It's obviously okay to challenge yourself but keep it fun. Music is all about fun! Hopefully I'm the only crazy person who does that but I thought I would share this negative experience so you can avoid it in your music journey or even your life.

Anyway the jam will premiere on my Youtube channel this Friday at 5pm UK time so come hang out! Since the lockdown is almost over here in Europe, this might be the last premiere, I'm not sure yet. Love y'all<3

Do you do the mastering yourself? Also, hope you're feeling good about the jam now.

Aldo

Yes! I mean it's obviously not a professional mastering but I use some fancy plug-ins, mostly Ozone 9 and the L3 Ultramaximizer from Waves. I enhance the stereo image, adjust the frequencies and apply some dynamics stuff. :) And thanks, I do feel better about the jam, it's not perfect but it's done!

yes! can't wait! man there is no pressure to out do yourself every time, you are such an amazing musician there is no need to feel worthless because you where stressed out while filming. sometimes its just best to not record that day and wait for the stress wear out you know? you're not the only person who feels this way at points, I think people need to know that musicians aren't perfect, and you know its okay to feel stressed don't worry about it we all understand. everyone is human after all.

don't worry about making an AMAZING performance because thats not really the point, the point is the music and how it makes people feel... in my opinion at least. so don't even doubt yourself you are a flipping amazing musical artist who is insanely talented. thank you for sharing! can't wait for the jam!

Aldo

Hey man, thank you so much for the super kind words, I truly appreciate it! You're absolutely right, it makes no sense to aim for the best music possible, it's not even a thing. :)

yeah no problem! I hope that was encouraging and that you feel better about the jam🙃

As someone who just uses the stock Ableton Live plugins to do my mastering (and has limited knowledge), would you recommend picking up Ozone 9? The Advanced edition is on sale currently for $250 and I was thinking about grabbing that. Ozone seems pretty beginner friendly from what I have seen.

Aldo

I have pretty limited knowledge and Ozone is definitely helping, there is even a tool that analyze your track and pre-master it for you!

If you are on splice, you can get ozone 9 elements for free. If I were you, I would just sign up for a month and get that plugin. Doesn't hurt to get a few samples along the way. With elements you can get an impression how ozone feels like.
