POV Ruby

The entire process is hurried as much as possible as I watch the wyvern surround Nathaniel within its domain.

I have the same system quest as Diligence does, and so do all the rulers in charge of this cycle of the tutorial. I do not think Wrath cares, and Envy is as good as dead, hiding and licking his wounds as my Apophenic Mentis works on breaking his Chaos Shields.

I do not think Kindness cares either, in her case, she would possibly prefer for the imitation to get out. And there is not a single thing anyone in the universe or the system can do to punish her.

As for me, I... I do not know. I have heard what Nathaniel said to Diligence, and I gave it thought. A lot of it, actually, I allowed months to pass within my mind, and even then, there were thoughts appearing that I dislike.

Something like that... happening to me… after all these stretches of time, I still find parts of me that are of that young, inexperienced, silly woman from the last years of Eladore. I still continue to adore them.

When Diligence gives a signal, I work with him to loosen the invisible chain binding the one winged wyvern to Beyond and the tutorial. Patience helps, and so does Humility, and no Ruler tries to stop our effort.

The wyverns gathered outside do the same as one winged roars toward the sky. Diligence blubbers a series of curses as he swiftly protects all of the attendees from the unintended, dangerous wave of the wyverns' powerful call for freedom.

Slowly, the chains and the connections begin to break and unwind. All of the Corporations, the Magi, the Slayer watch it happen. They take notes and think of ways to use this precious, rare occurrence to gather information to their advantage.

Nathaniel is in the center of all of that under the one winged wyvern, observing it with all the effort he can. He is so tiny, so unimportant in comparison. Any of these forces could extinguish his life at any moment with such ease.

His life could end just like that, with him leaving just a tiny footnote in the history of this universe. Just a speck of dust, a reckless attendee whose name would disappear from Beyond rankings soon, and for him to be forgotten, too.

Yet, to me, he does not seem like any of that as his eyes sweep the area and his feeble body stands there with unnatural calm.

Diligence, Patience, and Humility then cleanse his body multiple times, as well as the wyvern's, which angrily lets it happen according to the deal. These cleanses remove all of the marks the imitation could have placed on them as well as cut off all of the possible connections. A promise given by the wyverns in one of the ancient ways will take care of the rest.

And so, both of them disappear as the last chain tying the one winged wyvern shatters. They appear in the orbit of Xyphos, immediately surrounded by six more wyverns who call in unison with their kin. The space around them shakes with immense force as they deploy their domains, which clash, combine, fight, and gently touch each other.

Their calls melt into one as the one winged wyvern takes over, showing a strength a good notch over the other wyverns. The strength is on par with someone like a Ruler.

It uses the force of the combined domains to punch a hole through space, connecting to an ancient Firmament and instantly passing through vast distances with Nathaniel within its care.

The other wyverns stay behind for a while to close the breach, before leaving as well, each on their own.

The Firmament soon reaches bounds within which the System's influence weakens. There are entire solar systems within the old battlefields of the System War. This one is where that godking once long ago fought against the Ruler of Oblivion. The solar system they reach is nestled against a dying star. It is a vibrant, multicolored cosmic blossom. Like an expanding bubble held back only by the primordial energy of the wolf clan. The entire solar system is rid of mana, and none reaches it anymore.

Me and Diligence watch, though we switch to more exotic methods based on primordial energies and make use of the system's fingerprint on Nathaniel to strengthen the signal. The amount of information we can observe lessens, but that is not something we can avoid.

The wyvern remains floating in orbit as Nathaniel, surrounded by its barrier, crashes against the surface of the planet. He does not complain as he walks out of the dust and within the tall trees.

As if he knows where to go, he walks in one direction confidently, after a few minutes reaching a clearing in which two enormous wolves lie down. One of them is brown with a scar across its entire face, and the other one is gray with a missing part of its tail.

Both beasts stand up, shaking off the stiffness, and the brown one even yawns.

In between them, two smaller creatures lie. A tiny black wolf pup with a round belly and golden eyes, tied by a bone chain to a wooden stake. Next to him is what used to be Nathaniel's bond. That cute creature is now sleeping, missing part of one of its legs, and patches of missing fur reveal scars on the skin.

Nathaniel does not stop for a moment and continues to walk ahead toward the barrier surrounding what was his bond.

Both of the wolves say something, and even the wolf pup does, but he does not even listen and walks ahead.

And so, the brown wolf lunges ahead and bites at him.

In the last moment, mana radiates from him, surrounding him in a barrier that blocks the bite. That mana then moves like a torrential wave, expanding and growing to form a huge figure that uses muscular arms to keep the wolf's mouth open and even pushes him back. More of muscular arms grow from the mana figure and grab and squeeze the brown wolf's neck, pressing him against the ground.

Much more mana radiates from Nathaniel, and another figure forms, this one slimmer and taller, with a wizard hat at the top. A staff forms in its hand, and from it a beam of mana shoots, meeting with an attack of the gray wolf.

Nathaniel walks unbothered, and I can see his Ignition Heart beat powerfully in his chest. It is now fully unleashed as it fuels his creations with mana in this world where there is none of it to take. Each beat scars his body further, with the burn on his heart spreading as he reaches for all the power of the heart of someone who used to be a very powerful Champion.

He takes some of that mana and throws it against the barrier, but all of it does nothing as it does not even wobble. Yet, he tries again, throwing dozens of blasts of raw mana, his blood, empyrean mana, everything he can.

Still, it remains.

And so the figures he made, which were fighting the giant wolves and matching them in size, now use powerful attacks and throw them away. Both of the figures swiftly return to him, manifesting behind his back, making him look so tiny. They merge into one, shrinking and bleeding color until, with a blink, the shift completes, and his vessel turns pitch black.

It touches Nathaniel's shoulder and then becomes a part of him, flickering across his skin as he punches the barrier, which instantly breaks apart.

Not caring for his broken arm, the burns spreading over his chest, and the wolves charging him, he smiles in a way that makes my heart ache and, with incredible gentleness, picks up his bond. His thermal heart beats even wilder, and a circle of golden flames surrounds him. The smile does not disappear from his face, even as burns begin to spread on his back behind his heart.

That circle of flames turns to threads of mana, and from the air a dozen or so arms made of mana appear, using them to draw inscriptions. His skill then activates, further strengthened by these inscriptions and the mana powering it, and both of the wolves halt in place.

A bit of black mana flashes around him as he breaks the chain tying the wolf pup to the ground, and it starts growing in size, matching the other two wolves, though looking much more dangerous with pitch black fur and striking golden eyes.

He gently puts his bond in front of the wolf that immediately covers it protectively. Nathaniel's broken arm then snaps into place and fully heals as steam releases from his skin. He takes a deep breath, closes his eyes, and slaps his hands shut together.

And Diligence starts panicking.

“There is no way. There is no way. There is no way. THERE IS NO WAY,” the black ant next to me mutters in shock.

Both he and I watch the movements of his mana in shock.

It is not because it is something that powerful or dangerous, it is just-

“That just should not be possible,” Diligence mutters what I am thinking.

And so Nathaniel Gwyn begins to weave together a Scalar Beacon, a feat even most Champions are not capable of. Something that grazes the threshold of Absolute.

And his mind endures it.

...

It should not be possible.

Diligence tries to stop it, but the one winged wyvern interferes, and right at the same moment the presence on the planet growls from its sleep, and the incredible wave of pantophagic energy weakens our ability to watch even further.

My master's way of teaching was always special, and the imitation seems to be the same. She never taught you something directly. She wanted you to experience it, to fight for it, and to understand it.

While she always complained about a lack of scientific knowledge, she never complained about when I understood things through feel.

That talent or aptitude towards something. Master Lissandra always had a soft spot for that.

Dangling that knowledge or experience in front of you, she made you fight for it. To walk on rows of knives cutting you to get to it. Sometimes even without fully understanding what she wants from you and learning as much as you did.

What a monster has so flashily yet quietly grown inside of the tutorial. Never looked upon in the same way as talents like Nyssa. Considered powerful only because of the risks and damage he is taking, and expected by everyone to burn out brilliantly before even becoming a Champion.

Growing there so unnoticed under the noses of us all. A mind one day possibly comparable to that of Temperance.

It makes me wonder how long he actually spent in thought acceleration aided by the imitation.

Bleeding from his eyes and with childlike joy, Nathaniel spreads his hands wide, and in front of him a single speck of light glows beautifully, obvious in its function for everyone powerful who would look upon it. A fully completed, perfect Scalar Beacon, making it obvious who knows its coordinates.

As his Handler, I see the notifications he has just received.

[Focus - lvl 84 > Focus - lvl 85]

[Focus - lvl 85 > Focus - lvl 86]

[Mana Manipulation - lvl 86 > Mana Manipulation - lvl 87]

[Mana Manipulation - lvl 87 > Mana Manipulation - lvl 88]

And many others.

We are not the only ones noticing that, though.

My sigh clears out as I look away from that solar system and toward Xyphos, which shakes as one of its entrances spits her out. Mana radiates from her in a way that overlays her form with my master’s image, even that small, satisfied smile matches, though it rests upon a much younger face.

In her hands, the imitation holds two heads. One of them carries an older, dignified face, the same as my master at the time of Eladore’s end. The other is the same as the imitation’s. Both heads are missing the skull at the top, revealing a brain with mana wiring going through it. The younger one has a black dagger going through it. Both of the heads also have parts of the spine dangling, all of it covered in mana wiring, too.

And the imitation speaks, “You seem to be prepared, little ant. I wonder if my disciple has warned you, and as to what the reason was,” she says toward Diligence, whose presence reaches closer in an attempt to stop her. “Though that ruins my plan of using your death to make this escape easier, it matters not.”

She declares this, letting both of the heads drop from her hands. Even before they fall to the ground, she makes a myriad of adaptations, changes, and calculations, and when they touch the hot sand, she is done entirely redesigning what I don't even know if I can call an array anymore, and activates it.

No Ruler present even tries to stop it. We just watch the incredible ability of someone once considered the only true equal to the Ruler of Pride. If not yet as powerful as she was at her peak in the decades after Eladore’s fall, she is getting close to it.

The imitation of Lissandra Hawthorne then warps away toward the beacon placed for her, fully breaking off the chains holding her tied to the tutorial.

As Diligence goes into overdrive trying to manage the situation, and my channels are flooded with messages from groups, organizations, and beings even the Rulers are wary to cross, I simply stand there. The image of the imitation with her features overlaid by my master’s remains etched into my mind, even as new system quests pulse before my eyes.

And I cry.

Nerø

Welcome back, Mirec!!!

Valence

Wahh!! Lets go! Total chaos! Fight! Fight!

Konrad Pagacz

Holy shit. THIS WAS SO FUCKING GOOD. The wait was 1000 times worth it and it's so good because of the wait... The buildup, holy fuck.

Caramellato

[Apophenic Mentis] is actually a really good ability name, especially on a conceptual level. Props for that 👌👌👌

Max Dudley

Finally! Very hyped to have you back and hope you enjoyed your break!

John

Holy Buckets, Nats show of Power is so epic, loooved this chapter! already having MM at lv 88 with 1.5y left in the tutorial

Tiarnaria

Nat is definitely not going down in history as a speck of dust

John

"And Diligence starts panicking." - how we all enjoy to bully this poor ant 😂

Joe Woodhouse

The Ruler of what. Neither a sin nor a virtue. If we have one Ruler outside the 14, then there could be 100. I love it.

ofordwalsh

Ahhh this chapter was so hype

RehabProject

Yay your back...now no more vacations lol

Isaac Lung

“A mind one day possibly comparable to that of Temperance.” So Feroy won in the end. That’s good to know.

Apollo

Lissandra is the undisputed GOAT

Marwolaeth

Im so happy for my boi Feroy, he beat the absolute baby mimic and became a ruler 😁 Our boi nat though, he is pretty ca- *cough* perfecfly normal, its Dili that is unreasonable with his expectations

John

yess. but i think this was confirmend in previous chapters.

Michael Williams

Welcome back Cerim! Glad you enjoyed it, you deserve it! Chapter was as amazing as my anticipation build up was expecting. Can't wait to see what happens next!

John

hard agree, we are so back !!! already read it 3 times, this is the cocain that makes me smile through the day

Matthew Hay

"crazes the threshold" Should be 'grazes', no?

Nobyys

All hail Cerim for the return of Biscuit !

Alex

Ruby crying ? Dammnit he left with the most aggressive suspense he could. And now we're being fed one of the best chapter since a very big while. (from the end to the start) Ruby crying ?! A new quest ?? So much Liss aura farming, Nat as well, what the fuck he even did ? Etc. It really exceeded my expectations, and i loved it ! thanks for the chappie <3

Gwiddion

Yes it was confirmed during the tournament beyond quest when he manifested nat recognized his presence.

M van Dongen

Well... That's certainly a stunning entrance after a holiday.

Sammot

Can ruby see the skill he made himself forget? Since she can apparently just see his status i would assume so.

blaw

So Lizz basically confirmed that Nat saved Diligents live? Zant will be cuddled for a long long time.

Manaless

Cerim you're GOAT! What a chapter, absolute cinema, it was totally worth the wait for your vacation, I counted every day.

Levi

Ayoo Cerim bro you'd better not be placing death flags on sugar mommy

Matthew Walter

I just woke my kid up screaming that Biscuit is alive 😭

ForgottenDreams

Bro came back swinging!! Goddamn I missed this.

Fdrugc

Tftc incredible chapter great job on Ruby's perspective.

Sergei Hartwig

Our beloved Autor is back and with a bang! Thank you and i hope you had a great Vacation!

Chun

“his vessel turns pitch black… It touches Nathaniel's shoulder and then becomes a part of him, flickering across his skin as he punches the barrier, which instantly breaks apart” Is this what Kindness meant when she said letting black mana into his body? I don’t remember when she said this if anyone could help.

Ralph

Welcome back!! Amazing as always One spelling mistake where you say 'craze' instead of 'graze the level of absolute.' No wonder Ruby is a mess at the moment. Hasn't she been working to avenge her master since her death? And now the system bound imitation has become infinitely more real.

Budgie

Peak writing. I was wondering how all this would stretch out. Never thought it'd be 1 banger chapter. I am so pumped for the next Tournament lmao. Imagine threatening the planet of the Guy that helped Liss to escape the tutorial with a wyvern and a new universal system quest hahaha

Neko

Nat did a lot of cool shit, lots of stuff that annoyed diligence to no end. To see him react that extremely to the creation of that beacon, man. Cleverly outplayed Think that hidden 10th skill is the creation of that beacon, probably.

Arnon Parenti

Dude just doing his job, dilligently

J W

Can we run that chapter back in Nat's POV tomorrow?

J W

Cerim should have used this as his pre vacay cliff. Think about how much more everyone would have been thinking non stop about the possibilities.

Manaless

She sees what Nat sees, but I don't think she's spying 24/7, so it was a special occasion, so to speak.

Ashton Gray

A German version?! I can finally give this book to my friends and they will read it!

Terri Harris

I doubt the Rulers even realize the mistakes they made that brought all of this about. They never should have let Biscuit get hurt, or separated from his tutorial bond. All the drive that incident created in Nat lead to this moment. When they were voting, and screwing around with the floor quest. Aaron and Dennis sharing a body. Its funny how many times they caused things to get more real for group four due to in action or negligent cruelty within the tutorial and beyond. Now look at the monsters that motivation created. Technically Diligence owes Nat big time, his heads up clearly made a difference. Yet, Diligence will probably only restrain himself from obliterating Nat for his part in Liss escape, & call them even. I wonder if the Magi is running yet, and how well he's hiding his tracks. Such delicious fun. Well done. More more more!! TFTC!!

Augustus

So he can have more than one vessel out at a time. Correct me if I am wrong but I think he left a vessel on the 11th floor after killing the baby wyvern, what do want to better it is still there hunting the weredeer?

Nemesis

Is Ruby suggesting that Lissandra was able to disguise how long Nat actually was in the accelerated time space? Because before this she claimed to know Nat experienced 599 days of accelerated time. I bet the suggestion to make it one short of 600 was Nat's because he knew the natural annoyance he would display (hidden memories) would sell it.

Nemesis

It's one of the constant undercurrents of Ruby's character. Like Nat, she presents a hard attitude, but deep inside they are both softies just protecting themselves

Thariaus

Yes but we can’t know if the mimic imitate his presence

Nemesis

The skill is hidden from Nat by himself. Its still there, and the system presumably sees it. So Ruby should be able to see it too

Andromeda

Is it even safe for nat to go back? Will he end his tutorial run here and train up to beat Adrian outside the tutorial?

Nemesis

The suggestion seems to be that Nat knew Lissandra's plan all along, and it involved killing Diligence. But Nat decided he likes Dili and gave him a warning to save his life.

Tommy Lamoureux

I have the same question, nat doesn't know how much time passed maybe liss lied to him

Nimps

Edit suggestion: Something that crazes the threshold of Absolute. To Something that grazes the threshold of Absolute.

Gio

Nathaniel saved Diligence's life with the information he provided. Diligence owes Nat.

mitchell kaiser

10/10 chapter, glad you enjoyed your vacation and welcome back!

Gio

I suspect Ruby wanted to free Lissandra from the tutorial as well, but had to modify her mind and hide her real objectives. Same as how Nathaniel hides stuff from himself.

JWS_ TEX

Welcome back! Hope your time recharged your soul and lifted your spirits.

RJ

Biscuit better make a FULL RECOVERY!!!!!!!

Ivan Jelenić

Maybe not. Maybe he just overlaid the avatars on himself or something.

Ivan Jelenić

It was mentioned there were many many Rulers back in the day.

Ivan Jelenić

Ruby probably got the quest to kill Nat and/or Liss. Maybe mandatory.

Joe Woodhouse

I don't think any were named though. But yes, thanks for reminding me that this isn't the first mention of Rulers besides the Big 14.

Sondadir

Holy shit ! What a come back Cerim ! <3

Ivan Jelenić

I don't remember what that Ruler was about. I vaguely remember the mimic vs mecha pairing. Can someone remind me, please?

frankie doerr

He is the conceptual dust that started the big bang

Sondadir

Liss as many things on her plate. She will surely hunt down Envy, the hornless demon for messing with her inscription on Nath heart, The magi, Greed. And her revenge match against Pride !

Sondadir

Liss did say that she would kill Greed after escaping the tutorial...

John

I also picked up on this reference, if we think about it: Ruby shurely heard what Liss told Nat about the duration, so she doesnt fully believe the 600 days.

TBONEMAN

Welcome back

Ivan Jelenić

Can't wait for book 11/12 Earth chappies! Yummm

Logan

This supposed to be free?

Sondadir

I just realised, Nath has now two skills above the threshold for a champion. (Lvl 85) And his mana manipulation is slowly approaching absolute level.

Alex

Mhmh~ this is exactly what we like about them

YaBoiiSloth

Holy fuck what a chapter

Mapthaniel

TFTC! Quality of the story just keeps getting better, hats off to one of the best out there!

Skye

Shhhhhhhhhhh!!!! No giving evil mirec evil ideas!!

Gib BB

Did we see feroy in one of the floors?

Skye

Justice was named. Oblivion too, before this chappie i mean

William Johnson

We are so back. Also, how irresponsible was it of Diligence to leave a Scalar Beacon just lying around?!

Joseph Irdanto

So is the mana vessel we've been looking at after all this time is just Chadtaniel?

ethanskorpionX

This chapter was so fucking good! I’m litteraly close to crying from how peak it was, I don’t even know how to express it, prolly best chapter you’ve ever done Cerim! Also, praise mana daddy and mana mommy!

ethanskorpionX

Nah, he probably did let black mana in his body, ruby said those lines, if she said it became a part of him, then you can be sure it did.

ethanskorpionX

She doesn’t sees what Nat sees, she has access to his system informations

ethanskorpionX

[manifestation]? I think he used that, or, it’s just a very very very powerful mana signature that he focused with [focus] and honestly, a skill to create a beacon seems like a far stretch, up until now, all skills had a name that implied a lot of use, except for a few like [mana manipulation] [mana infusion] ect, and those skills are cannonically considered to be really low tier skills. So it’s probably not the new skill, also, it would have definetely leveled up, so it’s certain that it’s not that, and I’m sure Cerim is preparing something even more exciting for the secret new skill.

M Schweibold

Guys we need to take out a group life insurance policy on Meric…or buy him bubble wrap clothing, nothing is allowed to damage this gift from God!

TBONEMAN

I just realized something. Xyphos is another planet separate from the tutorial, so Nat can definitely become a champion there. I doubt he can upgrade 3 skills to 85 before he gets to the next floor though, so it is unlikely.

Zard

Haha Nat x Ruby is back on the table! Great chapter and thank you for the recommendations before you went on break!

Joken

Nah if he was evil he would send us a message tomorrow stating “after this chapter I felt I needed another vacation. Expect the next release in ~1 week”.

Gwiddion

I doubt liss would mold Nats mind like that. In my opinion it's more likely that she yold him her plan and he hid that information from himself.

Tshern

Wonderful chapter to end the break on, hope vacay was a good time and welcome back

Joppest

What a chapter, Welcome back!

Gwiddion

7th floor he sacrificed himself so that nat and lvl7 technician leth could escape. He was the one who told nat the he does what he does because he is a champion of his people. A sentence that I guess resonated a lot with nat as I feel like his opinion what happens to earth after the tutorial shifted after that conversation.

Joken

What does the scalar beacon do? Did I miss that information or is the explanation still following?

Nate Zucker

TYFC. I hope you had a great vacation.

Iniko Betts

You know they confirmed this some chapters back. Nat casually ask about the ruler of temperance and they mention some stuff we learned about him from the floor he was on.

Joel Ruiz

So let me get this straight.... 1. Scalar beacon was for Lizz to teleport to that planet? 2. Nat probably spent YEARs in accelerated mind space with Lizz. 3. Biscuit and his apprentice were locked up for what??? 4. What exactly prevented Diligence from death? 5. What happens next???

Crow Says Caw

WE ARE SO BACK! Let’s fucking go. TFTC!

Crow Says Caw

Which one was Feroy again? I forgot! TIA

rams

Probably doesn't have anything to do with the beacon, plus timing doesn't fit. Likely it is some sort of mental / mind skill gained while lazing around after Fauna first Fight.

rams

Not Nat as he is likely sys-chans bae due to empyrean and black mana

AL

Nahh Liss doesn't care about Envy, he is not worthy of her attention. I bet Envy will be killed by Ruby

Andrew

Thank you!

Kenny

She definitely wants her to escape. Way back on like the 5th floor when Nat gets summoned as Lissandra's disciple, he notes that her personality is different and someone helped her get her memories back. I always assumed that would have to have been Greed, since nobody else would care enough to help

Kenny

He needs to also become a master of his subclass and hit 450. The real deal breaker though is the first requirement is that he completes the tutorial

TBONEMAN

Completing the tutorial is a requirement because you need to be in the real world and not a tutorial world. Xyphos is a real world.

AFunkyLad

PFAISE! PRAISE!!!!! The great writer in the sky!!!! ( Cerim in a plane) Has returned!!!! The long journey through the desolate wastes of creation have come to a merciful end!!! Let us feast on the waters of fantasy and whimsy (ink) that spring forth from his mighty staff!!!(pen). Let us all quench our thirst and thank the mighty intelligence that has blessed us on this merciful day!!! Praise be to the mana stat!!! Praise be to the corgi! Praise be to writer!!! And Sandra can go eat a rock!!!!

SqrlyGrly

@chun. Iirc, kindness said it in the chapter where the cerulean parlor is watching Nat fight the baby wyvern

CipherFTW

What the fuck just happened

Rakharun

Holy unholy shit. That was awesome as hell. Just. Wow

Johnny

Hooooly shit what a way to return! DEF worth the wait, although I may have said otherwise when enduring the eternity Cerim was gone

Oskar Malim

THATS WHY HE'S THE GOAT!!!

Mark Bullock

These homework assignments to look up words R fucken amazing.

Real

Liss is probably going to kill ruby

Real

I thought we read a different chapter for a sec😂

Real

Nats warning about the heads kept diligence alive

Real

It might just be

Mark Bullock

I like graze better.. maybe it's her slang

RJ Barnes

10000% worth the wait, I definitely didn’t get watery eyes reading about nat going crazy to get to the most powerful corgi no way

Mitka

Wow 🤯🤯🤯🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Mitka

I wa reading the chapter and had to stop like what is this stuff 😭😭😭😭 This is cooking on another level 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Drunkgnome

It’s implied that it gave Liss the coordinates so she could teleport there.

Joken

Thanks

Jeffrey Mitchell

Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your vacation!!

Jeremy A-R

Found this a weak chapter. Wish Lisandra used sacrifice on her copies to push haldrins toughness skill to resurrection or reincarnation using kindness’s flesh and connection to immortality to resurrect her true self

J W

To be fair I was all for mirec to be forced to write more chapters instead of the vacation but everyone else felt he needed the time off.

tyhuko

Welcome back Cerim! Lizzy finally putting her plan of going beyond her original self into motion.

Edmund Dillon

Fantastic chapter to come back too. Tftc cerim!!!!

J W

He does seem to do some incomprehensible things sometimes Must be antnoying to everyone just trying to do their job.

J W

We could always build him a safe secure place to live, like an underground bomb proof bunker. And to be extra sure of his safety we could pad his rooms and have guards there to ensure he doesnt accidentally hurt himself. And of course the doors will need to be locked so intruders dont come in, all his food will need to be made on site and its too dangerous to allow him to go out on his own.

J W

I hope not, ruby is awesome. She's finally showing some growth by caring about nat as something other than a potential tool.

Psyren1596

Guys I just realised that lissandra might have foreshadowed that beacon by first giving Nat the instructions of how to get to her home planet on the mana stone. From their very first meeting back in the early tutorial days. That was her initial instruction to basically see if he could figure out spatial coordinates. Might be a stretch here but it’s a cool theory.

J W

No, it said "A fully completed, perfect Scalar Beacon, making it obvious who knows its coordinates." It is a nat beacon, if you know nats ip address you can teleport to him when the beacon is active. The wyvern needed to take nat to the planet biscuit was on because it is on the edge of system influence and that weakened influence allowed liss to break the hold on her.

J W

I think the beacon is something completely different It is more like sharing your network ip address and if someone knows it they can connect to it Liss just teleported to nats unique code.

Vigli2020

I think it was Kindness that helped her get her memories back, since at the second tournament the interaction of Ruby and Liss was shown as their first meeting and it was made clear that Lissandra hates the fact Ruby let the system make an imitation of the original.

Flo Zilla

This once again hints that nat may have been seriius when he told nyssa that he doesnt want to kill her on accident.

Gardor

Whats this mean? "Mana radiates from her in a way that overlays her form with my master’s image, even that small, satisfied smile matches, though it rests upon a much younger face." "The image of the imitation with her features overlaid by my master’s remains etched into my mind," If its like...an illusion of older Liss surrounding the younger imitation, how would the smile be both noticeable and on a much younger face? It seems more like a younger face was smiling, aping her mannerisms, so i dont know how mana gets involved. Also, shouldnt Imitation Lissandra already look like a younger OG Lissandra? Why is she manifestating an illusion of her older self, just like...in general? Also, fantastic chapter, real great seeing Nathaniel do some out of pocket impossible shit from a Rulers POV

tyhuko

It's a metaphor, her current actions line up with her original master's, thus the image of an old Lizzy is superimposed on the younger-looking imitation.

Gardor

Hey thats something id appreciate, I'd get it if the line were "seeing someone so similar to my deceased master made me envision her force ghost overlaid over the physical body". Problem is...thats not the line. Thats not what the book says, it specifically mentions "mana radiating from her overlays her form". Thats different. Probably a simple fix if the intent was "the similarities made me remember OG Liss so vividly i imagined a projection", prob just remove some linkage between the mana and the effect. Make it clear its how the mana is being used that reminds her, not a direct result of the mana itself.

You think she cried because the new system quest says that Nathaniel needs to die?

Sean

That sounds cool and entirely unlikely to work while she is still attached to the tutorial. Also, every interaction involving copies in this story has shown those copies acting to get rid of the original. She wouldn't want to become her 'true' self because that version of her died and is considered a failure. I like to imagine it as if all of Voldemort's horcruxes heard that he got ganked by a baby and decided they were now the original Voldemort.

Sean

I am so hyped for this but I also really wanna see him pull out all of his bullshit powerup now. The hype is real!

Kirin

Thank you for the chappie! What a chapter!

Nick

Now I’m wondering even more what that 10th skill is if they are saying he shouldn’t be able to create this beacon. Anyone have any guesses? Also, with that selective adaptation, he should be able to use it to help in his quest to evolve mana vessel into something better since he is definitely on a timer. Although, Lis did so much with just someone else’s mana… it might just be because she has a maxed out “full understanding” of control, which I feel like makes it over level 100? Or level 100 is 100 percent comprehension?

Jimbo

WTF JUST HAPPENED /brain explodes

Georgiy

The System (parasite) decides the level of a skill. Nothing says that is the max. Just like the Fae can deceive the parasite, there can be people that the system can not properly measure. I think Liss is so skilled that her actual skill is above what the system can define, she just hides it to make sure it cant learn and adapt.

Jimbo

Nat totally did. Dilli owes Nat his life. I can't imagine how much he must hate that

Jimbo

You have to love Champion Feroy. Even Nate admires him

Jimbo

There was never a doubt.

Zant has entered the chat

Shawn Treants

What a fucking come back. This story is so damn good.

karmaslap

Maybe Liss finalizing the theft of the mana heart from her original's copy or something?

Abhishek

What a beautiful chapter. Thanks Cerim.

Gardor

Sure, the mana itself is in the form of OG Liss. Whether its Imposter Liss actively doing it or whether its just a sorta natural byproduct of the process is unclear, but that is also a possibility. The problem with that, with Ruby describing the appearance of the mana, is that the smile wouldnt be referred to since its on Imposter Liss's actual face. Ruby wouldnt say "that mana takes the form of my old master, and even smiles like she did" if the smile was a physical facial expression (on a younger face). Does that make sense? Thats part of why the lines confused me. Still think its an easy fix, just need to commit one way or the other and remove stuff that contradicts.

Gary Becker

What if his 10th skill is the elusive control skill that liss was bragging about? Then with that, MM, Focus, redistribution (for mana since they are on a mana barren world), and manifestation the beacon would be possible and that would explain why nat had his sneaky self hide it and his time in his mind away. Thats just my little thought process, i could be totally wrong but its a thought.

Konrad Pagacz

I think he used the time off well :) and we have this chapter because of it!

Subliminary

Welcome back mi lord ^_^

Lance Beam

Nat is a nucleation point of cosmic events.

Lance Beam

TFTC Cerim, i don't have words to express my enjoyment of this chapter.

CrypticAnon

Why does biscuits apprentice have a round belly? Was this mentioned before?

thisisniall

So Nat just needs a few more “low Absolute” mana tasks for his checklist to hit 90 in Mana Manipulation before his class evolution huh

J W

Now that I think of it. The beacon is probably what the mimic utilized when first landing to bring in more waves

Terri Harris

I like the little changes/corrections made from my 1st reading. Nat didn't betray Liss, he only wanted to warn Dili to be a bit safer. The typos removed made it smoother reading. Love your writing!

Raymond

You think Ruby’s plan to kill pride was secretly always just resurrecting Liss for round 2?

Corac

The chapter is so amazing. I am re reading it and I noticed i can't remember any mention of a Scalar Beacon before. I am assuming it was taught to him somehow in the mind accelerated training he did. And I am also slightly confused as to who's mana was being manipulated. My first thought was that nat was so.ehow using diligencees mana and thats why it was impossible. But it makes more sense that it was Nates mana. Can anyone help clarify these things for me? It was a freaking legend of a chapter so I dont want to miss anything

Kenny

That also tracks pretty well with Kindness's motivations. If she invests in long shot people like Nyssa to end her life, someone as powerful as Lissandra would be someone she would help.

Marwolaeth

Yes, but it wss possible it was even the mimic emulating Feroy's presence- until they said he beat the mimic (inferred, more than overtly stated)

iLStokes

wTFTC!!!! So good Cerim.

Arch Fiend

That was an emotional chapter, very well done and I agree with Nathaniel and have always thought Ruby cares about the imitation just as much as she actually hates it, emotions are weird like that right.
