Sophie, did you notice that all cast member names ended with Arquette in the opening credits of Ep 1? Thats coz in real life Courtney Cox (Monica) got married to David Arquette right at this time. Twas a nice salute 🫡

I love commentaries! I have watched all of the friends commentaries, you actually learn even more about the show or film through them.

What I love is with all of Monica and Chandler's milestones it's been Chandler that has initiated it. It was him that came back into the apartment in the beginning of season 5. She was going to go but she turned back. He was the first to say I love you, twice actually. It was him that suggested the deal about getting married and it was his idea to move in together. I just love how far he came.

I think Ross IS in love with Rachel and it can be a partial reason why he wants to stay married to her. Unfortunately, similarly to his marriage to Emily, he is still more concerned about his ego and imige of "I can't be a guy with two/three marriages" and I honestly think that is still the stronger impulse. (It was 99% reason with Emily, it is at least 60% now.) I also think Rachel still loves Ross, but she is a romantic, maybe she would change her attitude if Ross was totally in love with her and he would ask her sincerely from this love, but definitely not if he does it for his reputation and image.

If you remember the end of season 4, Rachel has the same reaction to the news of Ross's marriage to Emily than here to the news that she and Monica won't live together anymore . First she is shocked a bit, then very enthusiastic (which feels genuine in Monica's case, totally fake with Ross), then it seems she is okay and calm and a little indifferent about it. Just to discover that her "okayness" is coming from a belief that what just happened won't really stuck and things can go back where they were. Basically she is in denial, and denial is the first stage of grief.

I think it is natural and it is the only way it can work. If it was Monica setting the tempo, it would trigger Chandler's insecurities, but this way he is moving in a pace that he can control.

I don't think so. It started wayy before. Remember how monica had a crush on him in highschool?. His lack of masculinity and joking too much is what made others not take him seriously. Or else all the women would be fighting for him. Anyway I really think monica started it(flashback), but then it led to friendship(S1-S4). And obviously the most important action was monica looking for joey but finding chandler in London. Chandler was sober and only tried to comfort her. But she was drunk enough to initiate kissing. She did start the act of breaking the awkward barrier of friends making out. And later everything just fell into place. I love them sm 🥰

I think the scene when joey break the door open is very symbolic. Was him who knew first about monica and chandler and keep the secret, allowing them being a couple the way they wanted. Now the first time they want to live together, there is a door, but joey break it for them. Very beautiful in a simple way.

Sofie's voice-over is like watching Friends with the cast commentary on. Which by this point makes sense because Sofie seems like the seventh Friend. Plus I don't have to reformat the screen to structure everything just so with the show a large enough big box, but Sofie's talking head not too small either, it's a whole thing, alright. The point being this way is like listening to a director commentary over the action. Sofie being a discombobulated floating voice god figure, we could all do a helluva lot worse. I'm not yelling, you're yelling. I need to get real friends....
