Sit back and relax as we bring you back to Sutton Hoo for some slow archaeology.

In this video we compile weeks of digging in Garden Field into a half hour montage. Watch as trowels glide across ancient soil, shovels scrape back layers of history, and the past is patiently revealed inch by inch.

We hope you enjoy the careful craftsmanship, the focus, and the reverence that defines Time Team’s approach to uncovering one of Britain’s most iconic sites. No commentary, no rush just some of our classic Time Team music and the sound and motion of history being gently brought to light.

And unfortunately for you we've been pretty diligent to not give away any big finds, those will have to wait!

Very scandi style slow TV. 😀

This captures how I felt spending my time at Sutton Hoo, last month… it was such a privilege to witness Time Team and FAS share their expertise… it was utterly serene. Entering Garden Field you immediately sensed time slowing down, nothing was rushed, the utmost care taken with this historic landscape. An experience like no other that will stay with me forever!

I'm just going to assume every time you cut away from the diggers, you found something amazing. Also, was it unusually dry this year? Everything looks so brown and dried out.

Wessex-Wyvern

Nice way to relax after my dinner.

Barry Jones

It's great to see the diggers in action. Was that Helen in the navy blue shorts? As she really got stuck in and shifted an awful lot of muck as Phill would have said. Great work well done everyone.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Watching this was a great way to unwind after what has been a VERY busy week at work

Just in from mowing the lawn. 'Slow Archaeology' was just what I needed to cool down. it's 29C but feels like 33. I applaud the post and glad to be done with my yardwork for the time being...

Menetho

Very much enjoyed this. I'm pleased with myself rolling the bin down to the curb every week and these people, my age and beyond, are Cheerfully working like dogs in the hot sun with absolute attention to the task. Greatest of respect.

Cecilia Wisén

Loved to get to eavesdrop on the conversations going on... thank you!

Jennifer Thompson

Labour intensive - fit knees and backs required. They all deserve to find an Anglo Saxon hoard......

JUDITH COOKE

Thanks so much for this! I was having serious withdrawal symptoms following the end of this year’s dig. Lovely to relax and watch this and relive all the memories and excitement. Cheers everyone.

Fantastic, some unexpected, but appreciated ASMR for Archaeology geeks like me... A huge THANK YOU to every person who scraped, shovelled or carried a load to the spoil heap. 🤩 You're ALL rock stars 🙌

Chris

I know it is hard work, but watching it is like meditation.

Andy Grigg

Ah, there's nothing quite so relaxing as sitting down with a drink while watching other people at work. Well done everyone!

Neil

It was still fun though!!

Katrina Copping

I can see me trowelling away there - having fun

Katrina Copping

Think my knees have just about recovered x

Martin Packer

Very dry. And UK even drier now.

Brent Bossom

To be honest, that was much more engaging than I expected! Back-breaking work! I don't think I could do it. But this was a very good way to see how the work progresses in real time rather than tv time. Thank you. This was very educational.
