Wow…how exciting1 We went to Orkney this year for the first time and it is spectacular. Full of the most amazing history and archaeology anywhere. And this new site promises to add a new dimension to an already magnificent story. 🥳

Karen Quanbeck

It’s thrilling to hear about this unexpected, mysterious GPR result. Time to set up search algorithms to see when it’s leaked onto the interwebs. Well done all !

Alison Hawkins

I visited in the final week in 2024. It was amazing and overwhelming at the same time. Got to go now as need to research a trip in July 2026!

Ian Hunter

Very pleased to hear spades are going back in the ground at the Ness… national treasure that should qualify for govt funding to explore fully and then establish a permanent exhibition on site.

Mikael Larsson

Yeess! What a summer digg! Have been hoping for this to happen! Go Time Team!!!

Wessex-Wyvern

That sounds utterly thrilling. I'm on tenterhooks to find out more.

Cosette Ratliff

Need volunteers? Ready, willing and able!

James Leighninger

Agonizingly vague about the discovery!! If I had any doubts about renewing my membership, they are gone! Can’t wait to see what’s ahead. Full steam ahead, John!

Jackie Leeming

Fantastic. What an amazing place Orkney is. I’ll be there in May - just too early for the new dig!

steve

How exciting. It is amazing to think of the ideas we were presented with at school of the stone age. Nothing could be further from the truth. What an amazing time it must have been. They were pioneers. Not copiers, but originators of a new way of living.

Clive McIntyre

Wow! What on earth (or under it) can it be? A ship burial? A henge? A Tardis? lol

Christopher Samuel

Oh that is so tantalising! [Goes off to play with Google Earth historic imagery] :-)

Rick McMullen

Working through all that GPR data sounds like a great opportunity for a collaboration with a supercomputer center.

Davey

My hand is up to volunteer, please.

Melanie Pietruska

I was waiting for that news for over a year! Finaly the documentary I was waiting for and these exciting new! Wow

Leanne

Strangely, when Helen said Mediterranean, my mind went to something like an Etruscan or Minoan civilization outpost, but unsure if they were in the same time period. Can't wait!

N Hansen

Any chance we can get a sneak peek at what the geo physics reveled?

Anja Adam

So I'll have to start saving now so I can volunteer next summer???

Elaine P

This is going to be another Patreon volunteer opportunity, right?! 🤞🙏🏻 So exciting, and the imagination is running riot with possibilities. I'm thinking along the lines of a fellow commenter, above. Phoenician? Those early Mediterranean cultures traveled everywhere. Regardless, can't wait!

LadyBracknell

Scottish descendant from 1314! Does that qualify for volunteering? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😉

Pat Smith

Aaahhh!!! I can't wait! So exciting!

Eggs Ackley

The new site could be any number of things but I hope its a Norse ship burial.

Drew

July seems so far away but it will be worth it, I'm sure.

JessieB

We visited the Ness dig almost every year of it's 20yr life, so will certainly be back up there next year to renew the acquaintance. Great news 🙂

Helen Johnston

are you taking patreon volunteers? If not are visitors welcome during the 4 weeks of the dig?

Margaret North

Can’t wait to see what is revealed in the forthcoming investigations.

monica clark

I went to the Ness in july 2024 as a visitor not a digger, and am sooo tempted to go back to find out what is going on next July.

Georgia EFF

Would love to volunteer!

Elizabeth Nicholson

Just saw the article on the BBC website about this site. Sounds fascinating.

Grampus854

That’s amazing! Really exc iting stuff. Can’t wait for next Summer. John deserves several pints (or maybe a whole firkin) for that!

JessieB

I really wish that Time Team would stop this ' there is big news but we are not actually going to give you any known details 'cos we have to save it for a future full episode.'. I love the subjects and the expertise of some of the presenters, but why all the hype? The Ness of Brodgar team have tried to clearly set out on their website what will happen and when, including the information that the small digging team are alteady in place, and that there will be no volunteers. Rant over!

Kev E

Oh this has got my brain whizzing! What's already been found is incredible, I cannot wait to see what this turns out to be.

Ian Macintosh

Great news. I'm hoping for a Henge or Maes Howe similar.

Elizabeth Wood

I've never ever seen John smile that much or for so long. You can tell he was just about to burst. Must be amazing. Can't wait!!

Marj Roul

Looking forward to seeing more. Is the data something that lay folk could assist with in the way that Deep Time occasionally use us armchair followers?

Rhonda K Hageman

My best friend and I were there at the Ness the weekend of the last open house at Stenness School. I had traveled there from my home in Colorado, specifically to visit the Ness excavation while I still could. We were walking around the site, that weekend, the 2nd and 4th August, and we spent as much time viewing the Ness excavation as we could since it was the last chance for the public to visit it. Phenomenal, and an unforgettable experience! On the Sunday afternoon, about teatime, we were walking about, one more time before leaving, and discovered to our surprise that we had actually missed seeing John by about 45 minutes. Alas! We had been too far away to realize that he was there, and didn’t hear him speaking to the visitors.

Robin Smith

Wow that sounds so exciting. Can’t wait to see what you unearth.

Brett W Walters

Oh! Time Team what have you gone and done now.... Tim!! Let Helen and Martyn go along too, they are our eyes and ears on the wall... Do a Podcast on location.

Brett W Walters

Poor thing, I didn't even know about the Ness of Brodgar website, but I do know Time Team. Go have a cupper...

Larry Besel, Jr.

Great reporting. However please find a way of keeping the microphones from hiding a third of these wonderful folks heads! Cameras focused on John G and the other guest did not show microphones, their audio was excellent. Do the same for H and M
