The latest episode of the Time Team podcast is available to listen to right now.

Here you can watch Helen and Martyn's conversation with Angus Wainwright, National Trust archaeologist for the East of England (and also Helen's husband!). He's talking about the Roman fort of Branodunum in Norfolk. Time Team visited a few months ago and came away with some astonishing geophysics results (more on that to come soon). In this video Angus puts the site in context and explains why it's so significant. We're hoping to return later this year for a proper three day excavation.

Don't forget to listen to the rest of the podcast where you can hear from the director of The Ness of Brodgar, Nick Card, where Time Team will also be visiting in 2026. Also, Helen Geake talks about the exciting discovery of an Iron Age battle trumpet and she answers more of your questions.

Daka

Was that fifth century Roman document like a doomsday book for the Romans

Kerry Hennigan

That was a real tease ... or test taster. Looking forward to seeing the final program.

I love a podcast that teaches me something and I leave with a smile. Thank you all for doing just that. Now, I'm off to listen to the full episode. Cheers☕

As always, I'm impressed how all the archaeologists explain a complex situation clearly. Very tantalising.

Not quite. It’s called the “Notitia Dignitatum”, and it’s basically a roster of civilian and military units of the Empire.

Fascinating. Looking forward to the Branodunum episode. I'm a bit like Helen, but in the opposite direction. I always want to know how Iron Age sites fared in Roman times. Or whether a Roman site was built on top of an Iron Age one. Edited to add: Regarding the rings, nail varnish and other vanity habits - I was asked by a student once why I wore nail varnish when "in the field" as an earth sciences teacher. My reply was that I would rather ruin my nail varnish than my nails.

Just a suggestion: next time you share earphones/ earbuds, use the ears closest to each other, rather than stretching the wires between the “ far” ears! 😀 But Angus definitely deserves more screen time!! Thanks, you two!!…or rather three

Perhaps inadvertently, Helen and Angus managed for the most part to keep their mouths in sight for those who need to or prefer to watch people's mouths when they're speaking. Hoping Helen will continue it as we could hear her without her mouth being blocked. Hoping Martyn can follow suit.

Great update! Wish microphones didn’t block out 1/3 to 1/2 o f the faces of the speakers!

Kathryn Turner

Thanks for answering my question ‼️

Great to see Angus! Can’t wait for the dig!

Love this and looking forward to seeing the results. Absolutely adorable Helen and Martyn sharing the earphones. Keep up the great work you are all doing.

Has Time Team ever done a "Revisited" program where they go back to follow up on sites that Time Team started and other archeologists have continued to dig in the years since Day 3?
