Martyn Williams speaks to Helen Geake from The Ness of Brodgar on Orkney where Time Team's been carrying out a month-long excavation. Here's the view from the window of the kitchen where the podcast was recorded. Archaeologists retreat here when the weather on the Ness gets too bad.

The Ness of Brodgar is a neolithic site where 20 years of digging identified dozens of buildings just a stone's throw away from majestic stone circles and burial mounds.Following a geophysics survey our very own John Gater noticed a strange circular anomaly. The team were dispatched to work alongside Ness of Brodgar archaeologists to find out what it might be.Nick Card, one of the site's directors, answers some of the many questions sent in by you, the Time Team members, who are eager to learn more about this incredible site.

Don't forget to check out some of the other content we've been bringing you from The Ness of Brodgar as the dig's been going on. We've been keeping you up to date moment by moment with regular Dig Watch episodes. They're all available to view right now here on Patreon.

Is there a museum you can go to about this site? Has a model been made of what it might have looked like when it was new? Are there reproduction tools, kitchen equipment, clothing, ect?

Listening to this and the last podcast. Has the use of rocks as a drawing and colouring tool been noted before this and could this have been applied to the crosses and other scratch marks, on the art works that he e been discovered,?

Dear Helen, it's Orkney and Shetland. NOT 'The Orkneys' or 'The Shetlands'. Thank you.

Dear Helen, I just finished listening to "The Little Ice Age" by Brian Fagan. It talks about environmental determanism in a way that makes a lot of sense. There are so many variables but to dismiss one important element (environment) was a surprise to me. Great to hear your question :)
