Much like many of you, some of the best conversations we have on site happen when we’re working shoulder to shoulder with our colleagues. And when we’re working alongside different teams, it’s often the perfect opportunity to get to know the archaeologists we work with!

In this video, we join Dani and Sigurd as they trowel away and clean up the trench. Along the way, Sigurd shares the story of how he got into archaeology, as well as some fascinating insights into a few of his favourite sites in Orkney.

So grab a cup of tea and join us for a chat from the trench!

Sigurd is a born storyteller...

What a sweet, honest and informal but informative interview…. These are the moments that make Time Team what it is !!

This.. was magic. Podcasts come and go. But this is the essence of digging. Of meeting and greeting. Thank you Sigurd and Dani; and TT for the recording. Easily the best so far.

Chris

Love this kind of talk. But looking at the two kneeling make my knees aching 🥴

Caroline W

It would be lovely if someone asked Dani about her reasons for becoming an archaeologist, her history and plans for future studies. What are her particular interests and her most intriguing finds of her career. Interviews can go both ways.

Carol Overrill

Dani is so good at bringing the stories out of people.

Elizabeth B Hess

please note that Sigurd's last name is spelled incorrectly - it is Towrie, not Trowie

Gloria Carbaugh

Just a lovely chat between friends. Special!

Stephanie Neva

Sigurd has made learning about Orkney so accessible. Thank you, Sigurd!

Pam

I could watch this all day, the peace and meditative conversation. This is a treat.

Sigurd Towrie

Lol. And in Orcadian dialect "trowie" means something else entirely.

Elaine P

That was lovely. Thank you Sigurd and Dani for allowing us to be a part of your conversation. And thank you to Sigurd and the others of the original Ness team for being so willing to share so much of the process with us all.

Jen

This is spot on. What a beautiful little piece.

Menetho

Ah ... young archaeologist kneeling on rocky dirt and using bare hands, old archaeologist on a kneeling pad and using heavy gloves. I feel his pain. :-)

Sigurd is doing public science! So is Time Team! So important. Thank you.
